I have 5 Okuma baitrunners I use for catfishing. 1 ABF80, 2 ABF55 and 2 of the Ceymar CBF55's. They are great reels. Keep them clean and lubed and the will last you a good while.

I`ve been running two Okuma salt water series reels for a few years now #45 and #80 for catfishing and I have been very pleased with them so far the bait feature works champ and they run so smooth compared to other reels I have and also being balanced like they are makes them enjoyable to use. These are the first real balanced reels I ever used much nicer than my older Mitchels of Berkleys. The #45 is similar in size to my Mitchel 325 but good for medium size fish. I don`t have any problems casting distance because of the reels either most people gripe on that subject when it is really the fault of the pole as over the years the manufactures making the candy bars smaller to save a dime so do they on the rod eyes witch is the game breaker on casting altogether. In fact Iv`e found it impossible to find a pole with proper size eyes on it these days.

I'm still using this reel and I think it still stands as a good overall value.

I love those okuma reels I have a 5000 series and I think I'm going to pick up a 20 series for a whisker seeker ice pole. I see okuma is coming out with some micro reels for 2020

It would be about the perfect size for one of those. I don't think we're going to be able to do it this year, but maybe next year I'd like to go up to MN and target some big walleye, pike and burbot through the ice, and this reel with that whisker seeker ice rod would be about perfect for it. If I ever figure out how to catch catfish through the ice around here, it would be good for that, too, but I haven't figured out how to do that, yet :)

@@teamcramerfishing8441 I caught my 1 and only channel through the ice in January didnt weigh it but guessing 10 lbs. Do you ice fish here in Iowa?

@@edbrown3047 Yeah, we started ice fishing 3 years ago and have slowly been building up all the gear. Last winter was the first year we were fully equipped with electronics, hut, sled, etc. If it's cold enough, we should get a lot more ice fishing in this winter. (I bet that 10 lber was fun through the ice!)

If you still have the reel can you show how the anti reverse works
@teamcramerfishing8441
@teamcramerfishing8441 2 года назад
There is a little lever. Just switch it from one side to the other to use the anti-reverse. In my experience it's pretty rare to have a situation where you don't want the anti reverse on.

How would you compare this reel to the kastking sharky 3

@@kiranali4898 I don't have a Sharky 3 so I can't say exactly, but I do have a Sharky 1 bait runner and some smaller Sharky 2 1500 non-baitrunners. I think if I had to choose between the sharky and the Okuma, I would choose the Okuma Avenger. I've caught a lot of fish on this one, and used it a lot and had no problems at all. My sharkys are okay, and I've never had a catastrophic failure of any of them, but two years of regular use is about all you can get out of them before they wear out. I think the Okuma would last longer with the same use.

30# braid on a reel with 8# of drag? So you would rather break your reel than your line? hmm... also really hard to cast 50 yards.... i don't see a lot of people casting 150ft with a 2000 size reel....
@teamcramerfishing8441
@teamcramerfishing8441 3 года назад
It might be 30# line when it's in a lab being tested, but as soon as you start actually using it and it gets knocked up a bit it will break well before 30# of pressure is put on it. For freshwater applications 8lbs of drag is enough for 99% of fish. For people who are targeting the 1% big muskies, flathead and blue cats, then sure, a bigger reel is necessary. Most people have reels that are far too big for the fish they actually catch, though, IMO. It's pretty rare to lose a fish because of the reel. It has been a while since I made this video so I don't remember the point I was trying to make with regard to casting. I'm guessing I was probably pointing out the small spool capacity in rare situations where a person might need it. Probably a big river with strong current is one of the only situations where a small reel might cost a person a fish.
