Might I ask why we are getting into this debate again? This is just stupid. Spinning reels, when it comes to lighter and even heavier baits, will ALWAYS outcast bait casting reels sheerly because of how they function. No way on earth can a bait caster, BFS or not, cast a trout magnet further than a well rounded ultra spinning rod with the same line. I don't care how super tuned your bfs reel is. It's just not gonna happen. I will personally fish against this guy myself to prove this. What I see on this channel is "BFS is better than spinning in every way possible". That's just not it. Like literally half of the people on here are practically demonizing spinning reels in favor of going for something so niche. I love BFS don't get me wrong, and I think it's a wonderful addition to the fishing community. But to say that they are "better than" or "they cast further than" spinning reels is just nonsense. In the end, if we are talking casting midges or 1/100thoz jigs, spinning will win in distance AND accuracy every time. If we are talking standard trout minnows? Okay yeah let's talk. But even so, the bfs still loses in terms of distance all because of how casting physics work. Proof? In order for a bfs reel to cast a tiny bait further than a well spooled spinning reel, the lure would have to use less force to GET THE SPOOL SPINNING than it would to simply pull a loop of line off of the arbor of a spinning reel. That's just not happening. I can lightly breathe and move a coil of line off of a spinning reel. Can't do that with a bfs reel. So yeah, please stop making this argument. It's dumb and there is no reason for it.
@mnjcosby
@mnjcosby 3 месяца назад
I'm not so sure about that, I don't give a shit either way but the resistance you feel when line is striping off a spinning reel vs a spool is just as high if not higher, with super low inertia spools we now have it comes down to how you have the tension knob set, and with it set right there is zero perceivable resistance on free spool vs a spinning rod that most definitely has resistance when pulling limp braid straight off. Also for a spinning reel to function at its peek you have to use braid and that's gonna cost you bites, I don't care how many fish you've caught with braid you would've caught more with invisible fluorocarbon but I digress, they both have their uses but to outright claim a spinning reel cast farther based on your understanding of the resistance felt through line when pulling off the spool is deeply flawed.
@theonlyfinsguy
@theonlyfinsguy 3 месяца назад
@@mnjcosby To say that you lose more bites with braid is flawed in itself. I've done back to back competitions on the same body of water with both and braid to fluorocarbon and straight fluoro and braid just wins every time. And even with the lowest inertia spools, you still get more resistance than you do with a spinning reel, which equates to less distance.
@mnjcosby
@mnjcosby 3 месяца назад
@@theonlyfinsguy that's senseless to say your single "competition" equates to any usable data, firstly you said back to back, do you know how many environmental variables can change within an hour that can effect bites, fish can perceive much more than people think, you ever heard of night fishing with nothing but large truck worm, if an fish can find that bait in pitch black from yards away it's also well aware of that strange colored string in the water 10 ft away from your bait, there are far too many variables to account for to get a true answer without a completely control environment, I'm just not leaving that up to chance simply because braid is more convenient or economical when fish are clearly sensitive to threats in the water
@theonlyfinsguy
@theonlyfinsguy 3 месяца назад
@@mnjcosby Alright so you assuming that fish are so sensitive to threats in the water that that braid lowers your count at the end of the day is crazy. Bro I freaking fish some of the clearest and most pressured lakes in the nation and do so with braid to fluorocarbon and I will outfish my buddy running the exact same bait yet he is using fluorocarbon only. Yes the changes in the environment throughout the day can make the competition one sided SOMETIMES. But I usually fish only during a certain portion of the day when the conditions stay consistent throughout to make my data as fair as possible. You also loose massive distance with straight fluorocarbon, so you defeat your own argument by using that as an example lmao.
@mnjcosby
@mnjcosby 3 месяца назад
@@theonlyfinsguy first, you only need braid for distance if your casting skill is lacking. Second, your friend may just not be as good a fisherman as you, which is highly likely seeing as the only variable is him and the line, I'd assume him.

Longer rod, longer cast of course. If you buy a baitcaster with minimal settings, a spinning reel might take the win. All my high end shimanos/daiwa baitcasters do cast farther than my stellas/stradics/vanfords. Love baitcasters more tho because there’s more technique in different situations and you can get lures in/out faster. The only thing I love about spinning reels is smoother drag and versatility. With baitcast reels, 1 setup can’t really do anything. Wind isn’t a problem for me as I’m an elite caster 😂. I live in Nevada and I use baitcasters 80% of the time from BFS all the way to big swimbait fishing. Ranging from trout>panfish>bass>striped bass.

I think there's one missing factor that's not mentioned that is extremely important: "Casting Technique" I know an old shipmate here in Japanland that only uses spinning gear. I'm amazed how far he can cast. He can beat my casting with a baitcaster ever time! The weird part is, he uses the cheapest spinning tackle from the Japanese store. Now as much as love bait casters, I know my casting technique is probably fair at best so, there's that. I feel it's all in your "Casting Technique" You either have it, or you don't. :)
@richardconnors8694
@richardconnors8694 2 месяца назад
As far as spinning reels are concerned, one of the main reasons the don't cast further than baiter casters is due to how the line comes off the spool and flows through guides. Yes, longer spools, longer rods and casting technique all lend to longer casts but when you're comparing similar length rods with similar specs, guide placement, type of guide and the number of guides along the blank have a larger impact on distance than with casting rods. This is due to the fact that there's more friction and "line slap" against the blank when the line first comes off of a spinning reels. Some may disagree but there are plenty of video's out there demonstrating this.

@rustyshacklfur2637

It's because bait casters especially low profile reels are very susceptible to sand and saltwater. A plugging reel will get dunked, dropped and handled with sand covers hands. No matter what you do you can't seal a low pro, but you can seal a spinner. Now conventionals hold up better than low pros and see more use in the surf, there are exceptions, but the majority of them are slinging heavy lead and clams or a bunker head. The whole which one casts further, bc vs spin is entirely dependent on the skill of the user, especially in the case of the low pro. When you use a budget reel with marginal line lay and braid that's too heavy, it's not going to send baits far with ideal line, rod and lure much less heavy braid. It would be like using a long cast spinner vs a bfs reel loaded with 15lb mono. For practical purposes distance isn't that important so long as the outfit can cover water. I can count on 1 hand in the past 5 years of fw and surf fishing the times that another 20ft of casting distance MIGHT have changed the outcome of a tough day. For me a spinning reel has the advantage of a smoother drag and the ability to let a bait fall without resistance.

The biggest thimg is baitcasters are harder to use and more prone to line issues, i know theres the mythical wind knot fpr apinning reels but ive fished spinning reels my entire life and have never had that happen and dont know anyone that has had that happen so i really dont know how its possible. As far as casting distance that also depends on how you are fishing, i kayak fish so i can get in close and quiet so distance doesnt really matter to me much as id rather not have to tune my reel to each lure i use and have the chance of birds nests
@zihotki
@zihotki 3 месяца назад
Your casting technique will be the limitation. The way you load the rod and do the cast is very differrent between casting and spinning reel. Plus they need a bit different rod construction for optimal performance. When you start using them simultaneously and try in different conditions then you'll find that in some cases spinning will be better, in others casting is more suitable. Or sometimes there is no difference.

I wonder why the world pendulum cast tournament still using a conventional reel based on a baitcaster yet still makes the winning longest cast. If a debate is just about lures or its the dead weight that their using, it just seems to be unfair to bring them up again in this decade for judging which is the longest @ farthest, skills should be in to it as well. I've been hearing this argument for such a long time ago especially between baitcasters or spinning reels enthusiast but not in the fly fishing world, seems to be until today. As for tipical anglers, either baitcasters or spinning reels, its just a method in helping us to get our lures to get into target. I lean more towards baitcasters better control more accuracy longer distance and I grew up using nothing but spinning reels. That being said I got some fiends that’s are just as accurate and cast just as far with a spinning rod. It’s all personal preference. The whole idea of which one cast further is anecdotal because of one single element, humans. We’re all human and we can get 100 people to cast the same outfits with the same lures line rod etc. and I’d be willing to bet your gonna get a lot of mixed results.
