The gold and black wrap is very attractive and appealing to the eye. I'm very new to building my own fishing poles and have never made wraps before 2 days ago after watching your video I tried the rap using red and blue red and it came out very very nice and all I used was regular sewing thread to practice with because it's less than 60 cents a roll. Thanks again for the tips. And it's a wonderful wonderful video

Marked every 3/8 and used 3/4 spacing. Diameter measured across rod. That number multiplied bi Pi (3,14) will give you your circumference.

Love how you explain everything! I just want to know how you remove the tape on the ends to get ready for the next step? Do you have a video on that?
@reelbluecustomrods
@reelbluecustomrods 3 года назад
Hey Fatty Fishin, I do not have a video on it, but I will make one soon. In the meantime, on the thread side of the tape, about a half inch away, or more if you like, start doing a regular wrap over your spiral wrap to lock it in place. Once you have enough thread wrapped over the spiral wrap, start cutting the ends of the spiral wrap where it meets the tape. Then use a razor blade or scissors to cut those lose ends further back towards the over wrap you are doing. Now that you just have short ends left, flatten them down with your burnishing tool, and continue your over wrap over them. Then cut the tape away from the blank. Does that make sense?

John, really nice wrap! Are your marks starting half the circumference on the 180 axis for s stagger or the same starting point for each axis? Thanks!

No Tom, I use the butt diameter.

Hi John, Question: Did my first closed spiral wrap about 5 inches and one finish coat last night. This morning looks like some threads raised up like they got loose during finishing coat application. Wondering if that is a possibility? Just in a couple spots and not too bad. Your thoughts on a second coat and how to prevent in future. Thanks, love what you do on your channel.
@reelbluecustomrods
@reelbluecustomrods 2 года назад
Craig, great question. I would start with making sure your wraps are tight, and pay extra attention when you put an overwrap down to secure them. As for the epoxy, I always use several coats - usually four. Does this help? Thanks for watching.

i just started making rod and was wondering what kind of finish you use for something like this, I tried the u40 gloss the same as for the guides and did not work very well and had to take it off.

Very nice, just started doing fades. What size thread are you using. As a beginner I've been using a lot of D size.
@reelbluecustomrods
@reelbluecustomrods 2 года назад
Hank you Paul, and thanks again for watching my video. As for thread size, I mostly use size A, but use size D to secure my wraps. Hope this helps.

@daver6306 3 года назад
Nice technique. I was wondering, how did you determine the number of threads to use?
@reelbluecustomrods
@reelbluecustomrods 3 года назад
Dave, there really is not a set number of threads to start with. I almost always start with an odd number though when doing a fade wrap. For the spiral wrap it is really about filling in the space as you wrap. Does this help?

You was unclear about your spacing. Did you divide your circumference by what? Or if your circumference is say 16mm, are your marks 16mm apart for setting out?
@reelbluecustomrods
@reelbluecustomrods 3 года назад
Gary, the spacing is the rod butt diameter. You can measure the circumference of the rod butt and divided it by 3.14159 for the diameter, or you can use a caliper.
@garyturner4050
@garyturner4050 3 года назад
Oh I see, divide the circumference by pi. A lot easier to use callipers. Got it thanks.
