I’m hoping Spirit Christmas takes off. Not just because a Christmas-themed superstore sounds fun, but also giving their retail staff employment throughout the holiday season would be great.

They may face a little more headwind than they did with Halloween. They sort of got in on the ground floor so to speak before Halloween was as popular from a marketing stand point. Whereas with Christmas, there are already pop up stores that exist and almost every store is inundated with Christmas-themed stuff. If they can find a niche that isn't yet super popular within Christmas stuff, then they could be successful.

As someone who has visited Spirit Halloween since 2006-7, I can say it’s really cool how quickly they’ve grown into a household name. You hit so many great points and I agree on all of them. I’m curious as to the Christmas concept… but Halloween wouldn’t be the same without Spirit.

Spirit Halloween didn’t come to my town this year because they couldn’t find a location, and a ton of people on Facebook were disappointed. For a company that only comes in seasonally they have done an awesome job!

There's been an overall increased appreciation for halloween in recent years that I've noticed. There's even a town in SC that turns into the city of Halloween for the whole month. It's really revving up, and we are all in the spooky spirit

This was my kid's first ever job. She loved it. Said it was hard work, but that it was a lot of fun too. Funnily enough, she now works for Spencer's Gifts. She loves that too. Just got promoted in fact. So proud of my kiddo. Oddly though, she works at one of the rare standalone Spencer's locations that isn't in a mall. It's in a strip mall, next to a Korean BBQ place on one side and a music store on the other.

Those aren't rare locations at all, as Spencer's now exclusively builds in strip malls, and outlet centers. Underperforming mall locations are being moved to strip malls

I worked for Spencer's. They are terrible company to work for. Low pay, no one gets 40 hours aside from the manager. You have to get a pat down before you leave out for your lunches or breaks, which they don't do until after you clock out meaning you are waiting for a manager to pay you down as you waste your unpaid lunch hour. Shit retirement plan, working on Thanksgiving. Never again. "The party starts here" unless you work there and it is run like a bootcamp where even your bathroom breaks are timed.

Spirit Halloween stores are really cool, not only they have fun merchandise, they also a fun place to work seasonally. They come in defunct stores like Bed Bath & Beyond and Rite Aid stores, and they put those abandoned stores to better use! Those stores are already spooky, which makes sense for their locations!

I can't help but to think that a big aspect of Spirit is that people go there simply for the sake of seeing it. The displays are an attraction onto themselves. Plus how many retailers can say there's a movie out there about them... A bad movie, but it's still out there none the less.

Spirit Halloween in a comical way is a breath of fresh air. When so many retailers start putting out Christmas stuff even as early as the end of July, it's nice to see one store that sticks with the theme of the month. They aren't there in March, they aren't there in July. They come out right around the Halloween season, and then quietly pack their bags and leave until next year.

True to your report, Spirit Halloween pops up in our local major malls and strip malls. I am not necessarily a big Halloween celebratory fan nowadays, but I do take a stroll through with my wife. I am impressed the the wide variety of costumes, accessories, props, makeup, and decorations they offer, from the very cheap to the outrageously expensive. Thanks for sharing.

No matter if I already have my costume set, it's always set a pleasure to check out Spirit halloween. I love the atmosphere there, and I always end up picking something up to either add on to my halloween costume or just because. It's always a fun time. I was in NYC when Art was actually at the store. I couldnt believe it until I saw it on social media later.

@@760Miramar that's what happened in my neighborhood. They took over the closed Toys R Us and when Spirit closed, it was turned into a discount furniture store. This was 4 years ago. The furniture store went out of business and Spirit hasn't been back since.

Where I used to live, there was a Wherehouse Music store. When they went out of business the place sat vacant for a long time, then Spirit moved in for Halloween. When Halloween was over, they vacated until the following year's Halloween season. It's crazy that a retail space can sit vacant for 9 months a year.

They just started using the abandoned Sears near me this year. I'm surprised it took so long, maybe they ask for too much or the builds got too much dust collected on all it's AC/lights. I have no idea why old Sears buildings stand abandoned forever, I guess in California the property taxes are near frozen in time and they're squatting on them for a big payday?

8:53 I'm of the opinion that they SHOULD be proud of it. It fits perfectly with their Holiday-targetting seasonal business model. It's also perfect for a Halloween store in particular, as it's a very common theme in horror for something to be recognizable for what it once was, but no longer is. The transformation of something benign into something terrifying is classic, and it plays right into their branding.

I'm a massive Spirit Halloween fan, Every year I'm in there at least 10 times throughout its month and a half existence just because of the vibes it gives off. Spirit Christmas, if given the same amount of attention and love as they give to Spirit Halloweens products, will succeed 100% Spirit Halloween does an amazing job getting licensed merchandise, especially EXCLUSIVE merchandise. There are tons of Christmas movies, TV shows, specials, songs, stories, etc. That they can capitalize on I don't see how they'll fail. I expect Spirit Christmas to exist all across the United States by November 5th, 2025 and remain open all the way to the New Year every single year after this year's trial run.

I always look forward to at least visiting it once a year to walk around and see what’s new. I’ve worked there a couple times. And honestly, it’s probably the most fun I’ve had at a job. Well one of the most fun jobs I’ve had. It’s spoiled me from working anywhere else in retail. But it was fun to get the dress up and just have fun and enjoy Halloween. I made my annual visit and bought myself some stuff. It kind of made me wish that there were more annual pop-up shops like it.

I worked for them from 1998-2008, so was in the middle of the early evolution from the smaller west coast based company to growth across the US. Honestly it was more fun the first 5 years than the last 5 as Spencer's executives struggled with what to do with Spirit in the beginning. But clearly they found their stride and blew it up. They also experimented with Christmas stores back then and failed miserably at the time, but perhaps they will learn what didn't work then and make it successful now.

I love Spirit Halloween. I look forward to it every year. I go visit it several times just because I love the atmosphere and Halloween is my favorite holiday. I do most of my money spending on my first visit and maybe a little on the second but every time I visit after that, it’s just to soak it all in because I know it’ll be gone in a couple of months

8:38, choosing to show a Bed, Bath & Beyond here hits. This year in my town, Spriti Halloween went into the BB&B that closed last year. Which, amusingly enough, is in the same strip center as the Toys R Us that they were in about five/six-ish years ago when it closed. You are right, they can't be having to work TOO hard looking for new places to open.

Here in Greenville, NC I even seen spirit Halloween pop-up in more restaurant heavy parts of town. This year it’s near the convention center which is near both an Olive Garden and a bunch of stores, including a Target and not too far from AMC theater 12 and right beside Sappari’s(where I go for my birthday every year). In my town it’s always been a different spot every year. Once it was even within the mall

I had no idea they were this big. In my city Vancouver, one year they opened up a pop-up store in a car repair shop that closed. I was like how would they make any profit in an old place like this. Turns out the vibe inside the store was excellent because the place was so dark and dirty-looking.

I think the brand recognition is especially huge. I’ve never even seen another Halloween pop up other than spirit. They are just so dominant.

I live in a small town about 45 minuets away from Philadelphia Pennsylvania. I am not sure if all the Spirit of Halloween stores do this but all of the stores in my area hold a fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia or CHOP. Which is dedicated to fighting severe diseases and cancer in children. And in most cases for free to the patients and their families. They raise close to a $1,000,000 every year to help one of the largest hospitals in my area.

I’ve noticed a few places that Spirt seems to have certain locations on permanent rent including a couple places that actually seem to close for Spirt to take over. It’s a great idea for sure

I love spirit, I go every year even if I don't plan to buy something, their stores are just fun to walk through. I see them continuing to be successful, brick and mortar retailers are loosing customers because they aren't worth the hassle, you can get it cheaper and easier online. Spirit is different because its an experience, it adds value to the purchase because people want to go to their stores for the fun of it and they spend while they are there, also doesn't hurt that their expenses are lower since they don't have to keep up stores year round. I think the Christmas stores are a great idea for them, just flip the stores november 1st from halloween to christmas and continue through January. I've seen a few "Christmas stores" in tourist areas and they do surprisingly well year round, so there is precedent for a holiday specific store, sell a bunch of fake trees and decorations and maybe some clothes too and itd probably do well

The shops are fun to visit and have everything short of a pumpkin to carve. I can see the Christmas ones popping off if they they bring the same energy, but they need to bring something new to the table too. There is already a LOT of Christmas stuff out there and it's not hard to get year round.

I love looking at Spirit Halloween stores. Back when I was younger, my family would usually get costumes from places like Halloween City, and those places were not fun to go to. They stores were cramped, the dressing rooms were always full, and people kept leaving parts of costumes and other things everywhere. We also almost never got the costumes we wanted and when we did, they wouldn't feel comfortable. I started going to Spirit Halloween out of curiosity in my young adult years, and it was a completely different experience. Despite how cramped some places felt, they were never really dirty or terrible to navigate. They usually have a great selection of costumes and props that are so fun to look at. The costumes seem pretty good, too, though I haven't bought a pre-made costume in many years so I can't really attest to their quality. The last time I went there, they had a really neat collection of werewolf masks. I've always wanted to do a werewolf costume, but never had the time to put a lot of effort into it. I wanna go all in on it, with realistic claws, ripped clothes, and fur that is closer to my hair color so that it's hard to see were human-me ends and werewolf-me begins. Anyway, great store.

Great model, the only thing I could see is if all the warehousing costs go up. They must eventually run into glut or overstock. Although I do know that a good amount of people enjoy finding vintage Halloween decorations. Surprised they don’t try and incorporate vintage Halloween decorations, etc into some stores. They also literally exist as a zombie brand, inhabiting the dead corpses of the shuttered stores. Their mascot is also very generic, but it also works extremely well because everyone knows what it is. Will be interested to see how Spirit Christmas does!
