Riffybox! Mike’s riff with the octave harmonic in the 2nd verse is so unfairly good. This song reminds me of “Perennial” and “Electric Cross” in the best way possible.
I wish she would go into her higher vocal range like she does in the last chorus during all of them. The way she goes into that falsetto right at the end into that crazy riff is just mm mmm mmmmm perfect
@DK-th5nt maybe change it in the last chorus but I still think the choruses in general should've been at a higher register. Would've kept me more drawn in.
nah it feels like an epic conclusion to the song, it definitely wouldn't be as good if every chorus was like the last one. however, i do wish she would sing like that in more songs because it really hits so hard
@@TheRageLivesOn but the rest of the choruses are boring af. same level of vocals all the way through the entire song. choruses are meant to bring you in and catch your attention. Thats why theyre called a hook. doesnt have to be exactly like the last chorus but sing it at a higher register and youll pull more people in. im telling you this as a music producer of over 25 years. its not like i dont know what im talking about lol
Started to like Courtney's voice because of her screams, but today, I find her cleans much more captivating, so much nuance and texture. That main riff is also gorgeous.
Is it just me or are they getting more groovy? I’m a groove guy so I’m all for it. 🔥🤘 I need to hear my guy Josh sing on some songs. I know it’s coming so I’m gonna wait for it patiently lol.
LOVE this song, 10/10 for me. It’s exactly what I want from a Spiritbox song. Not necessarily saying it’s my favorite but I have no complaints and overtime it could become my favorite of theirs.
Coming from someone who listens to rap 90 percent of the time, this song has been on repeat for the last two days. Spiritbox is an extremely talented band!
Riffybox! I love it! I didn't notice til listening to your reaction, that the clean guitar from the beginning is still going during the heavy choruses. Such a cool sound!!
This definitely felt like the kind of song they could play on the radio and get a lot of traction with. Is it as unique or out of the (Spirit)box as some of their older stuff? No; but it’s a good introduction song for people that maybe don’t listen to a ton of metal and if nothing else, the structure of the song makes it feel like a complete package instead of “Oh man, here comes the breakdown every channel is going to react to.” Really looking forward to the EP now
I will admit that it took me a couple listens to shake off the "ugh it just sounds like another Eternal Blue leftover" feeling, but now I love this track quite a bit. That chorus and atmosphere is really wonderful, and I love the imagery in the music video especially with that weird cube thing floating around LOL
we NEED to give a shoutout to Zev's drumming. his skill on the kit has massively helped build this band since they just had programmed rums on eternal blue. From touring to new material that young man has helped make this band.
I honestly think this is one of their best tracks ever. Very balanced, great progression….guitars, drums, ambiance, singing, screaming this is a 9 for me.
RiffyBox! Mike has a way to write those very sometimes simple but also very memorable riffs or Melodie’s that always get stuck in my head especially with this song! Love everything about this song! I hope they do use Josh’s voice more than just live
It is a Spiritbox song to a T. A great song to intro someone into the band. The more you play it the more it grows on you. I am surprised you didn't mention the key changes at the end.
There’s not really a key change at the end. They just added an additional chord (III) in the progression at the end. I did a full cover of the song if you’re curious 🤘🏼🎸
It's not my favorite song of theirs, but I'm glad to know they haven't entirely abandoned their heavy sound. My hope for Spiritbox is that they continue to experiment and grow, but without totally abandoning their roots (like, say, Parkway Drive or Architects 😅)
Riffybox! Bro I loved your take on this song I feel the same about this track a good solid dynamic song from Spiritbox hopefully they do this one when I see them on the 4th
definitely a 9 from me. I get heavy diary of jane vibes from the riff. But Absolutely love the drumming. I feel like it's a masterclass on not overplaying, but providing the appropriate amount of chill/heaviness where applicable in the song
Solid song. Like you said, it wasn't very reliant on hooks, but let Courtney just be this powerhouse of a vocalist with emotions rather than relying on a catchy hook. Instrumentals remained interesting to listen to thorough the entirety of the song. At this point, the only thing that is confusing is how you can have Josh on bass with no vocal contribution yet. While he shouldn't be the main vocalist with Courtney there, he should most definitely appear from time to time on a song or two.
This over The Void, yes. The harmonies at the end are beautiful - last chorus pulls the song over the line for me. But I just think the rest is all one level, nothing stands out. Cool things going on, but I feel like nothing shines. Unpopular opinion, I'm sure 😅 As Birb said, it's anither Spiritbox song.
EP was 6 songs... still new songs are new songs. I'm just old school. I want albums and organization. hate when singles get released separate from albums. itunes sucks for organization but at least 6 is more than like 2 or 3 or just stand alone singles.
I don’t think “the void” is going to be apart of the EP I think it was just a straight single. But “jaded” was a hell of a first track to show off for this EP. Can’t wait to hear the rest. 🤘🏻
@@MrInflictPainI kinda hope they don’t release another single from the EP. It’s not releasing until November 3rd and if they put out another single that’ll be half the EP already out
Brought back the riffs? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills because everyone goes wild for Spiritbox's recent stuff but it just isn't as interesting to me as their earlier prog sound. Mike's sick guitar parts are way simpler in the latest songs than they were in The Mara Effect, The Beauty of Suffering, or even Blessed Be, despite them being buried in the mix. But every song from Eternal Blue to now feels so much more mainstream.
Thank you!! I feel the same way. I still and always will love Spiritbox, but their newer stuff just doesn't compare to the older stuff. It's missing the complexity and the shock factor I got from their earlier albums. I'm finding their newer stuff quite predictable. HOWEVER, I think this song does have echoes of the riffs you hear in their earlier stuff, so I think that's what's being referred to.
The song is catchy and all...but it's like djent-pop. It's too slickly produced. Watching both the video and the some of the various live stuff that's been uploaded, it's clear that Courtney is a pop star LePlanted into a Djent band.
The rest of the metal world has left you in the dust... its regarded as one of their best songs they made, and trended nationally at 19 on Twitter and #20 on YT as well. It is going to blow up very soon. Perhaps a couple more listens will allow you to understand what you are listening to on a more profound way than a more perfunctory first listen can provide.
Their song structure became really generic and predictable. Their early music was more original and interesting to listen to again and again. But now we have one template (or maybe some variations of it) for almost every song, and it's a good way to become a popular, but it will become more generic and boring with every new song. Don't get me wrong, I'm still like Spiritbox and their new stuff, but maybe I just want more interesting and complex stuff from them.
Yeah, I'm not as impressed by Spiritbox's newer stuff because I know how complex and fresh their earlier works were. I feel like there's so much untapped potential, but right now they're kind of blending in with the sound of all the other metalcore bands in the scene. However, I still love them and will continue to support whatever direction they take
While they are getting formulaic with their sound there is no one in the game creating even close to a spiritbox sound right now. It is 100% unique in the scene currently. The audio engineering is honestly on a whole different level.
