I have a bad feeling about Stanley's past. The minute he started talking about that dream...My heart sank... His mother would yell and swear at him... And the fact that you dug him up, as if someone had put him in the ground...

One thing that helped me with catching Tuna (and other things) was that you can tap the button when the line is red so that the fish doesn't get out as far as if you just release the line entirely.

It's absolutely perfect that, just as Carrie was cracking up uncontrollably over Dan's "Catatouille" quip, Daffodil's reaction was to yawn and fall over, fast asleep. Also, you can probably plant that garlic in the regular field. So you don't have to wait to build another orchard to make Gustav's meal.

Yeah, and it would definitely ties in with the fact that Stanley's dialogue seems to hint at living in a house with some tension going on, especially with his mom

I started playing this game after you two introduced it to us the first time. And I really was bummed out back then. And Spiritfarer has some really emotinal moments in it. But then suddenly Stanley appeared and surprised me and kinda forced me to play and do this stuff and this somehow helped me break out of my thoughts and truly cheered me up. So thank you for introducing Spiritfarer and thank you Stanley/ Spiritfarer. :)

Always lovely to get back to the boat for some more wholesome playframe coop Also Carrie is right about cuttlebones, they are called bones but are more close to an inner shell, it allows the cuttlefish to control its buoancy, and for pet birds they help indeed to keep their beak polished when they play with it, with the bonus of being a source of calcium for when they ingest small bits when nibbling on it

A lot of old school substances popular in olden days were made out of household materials. Paste and play dough use a lot of materials you also find in bread. And then there's Ooblek! Personally I ate a lot of sand for some reason. Also chewed through an insane number of pencils and pens. Including mechanical pencils.

5:35: To be fair, eggs are half of shellfish. It's just not the half you're supposed to cook! 23:20: For both Floyds' sakes, I hope Dan doesn't do much of the cooking in their house. You need a firm understanding of what counts as "food" to cook it. 34:10: Cuttlefish "bones" (an internal shell used as a swim bladder) are put in birdcages as a dietary supplement and beak sharpener, one of which seems like a good thing for birds to have. 52:15: Myooslee. My grandma makes it. 1:09:25: For instance, Stanley would be a terrible audience for his own play. ...I wish Alice was here. I bet she'd just love Stanley. 4:04: -comment not found- They're absolutely right. I hate chasing pulsar thingies. 7:35: Coal, comet, they look pretty similar if you're playing coop. 19:30: _Everyone_ here is dead. Even Daffodil. 31:20: You surf with a surfboard and you TERF with a message board. 33:15: Mine, too! Before that they lived off of coffee beans (because Gwen had already passed and I hadn't found anyone else who likes coffee, but I had tons of beans). 41:15: You can purchase a cow, without actually getting a cow? What will they think of next? (Also, where do you pick up the cow? I've got one of those in my game and I want milk.) 49:00: Do you have chocolate-condition cows? Mint milk sounds weird. 55:25: I've been checking the wiki occasionally, and apparently Stella was a nurse in life. That doesn't sound like something a kid would be allowed to do. 56:50: Note to self: Draw a lavender cat driving a Prius. 1:10:40: I was afraid he'd say that...maybe you should bring Astrid, to hopefully make him be on his best behavior?

I'm loving this playthrough! One tip for the harder fishing. You can quickly tap the button while the rod is red without it breaking. It keeps you from losing as much ground and I couldn't catch the Tuna without it.

This is really gross, but Carrie started it. I used to eat the rock salt off the road whenever I could when I was a kid. I also used to vomit consistently and often, for no good reason that anyone was aware of. Took multiple years for my parents to put two and two together and realize I was accidentally poisoning myself.

I'm scared to find out more of Stanly's story. That nightmare he described sounded an awful lot like peer pressure Into suicide, and I don't like the possible Implication of that on top of him seemingly being a child In the spirit world and sounding like he lived In a hostile household.

If it's any help, and trying to avoid spoilers, Stanley's story includes several red herrings where the game seems to go dark and then turns out it's nothing. Now don't get me wrong, it will go dark as we are talking dead kid here, but not that kind of dark.

36:14 So I'm gonna share a little personal story about *why* people not in a specific community should do prior research. About 3-ish years ago, I was in a creative writing class. One guy wrote a story about someone on the autism spectrum, but when I read it, I was absolutely appalled at how little actual research this guy seems to have done, which was made all the more offensive at that time because the university I was taking that class at straight up has an office dedicated to ASD people because of how many spectrum people were coming onto campus. He wrote this female character as weirdly sex obsessed, who would compulsively take hair from her boyfriends as...I guess trophies or reminders? (idk on that one) and just so many other things that were not actually signs of someone who is ASD but someone with way more mental issues that *were not* ASD. Also, this guy tried to be clever only to, in my opinion, face-plant onto cement when he made his "character" (I think "caricature" is more accurate.....) have a "revelation" with their therapist, just so this guy could get the "clever payoff" of the phrase "I'm artistic" at the start changing to "I'm autistic". ....Needless to say, I basically lost my shit at this guy during the feedback/critique session. :/ He not only didn't seem to do prior research, if he did do research he seems to have gone to all the wrong sources and wound up brutally offending me and every other proud Aspie (high fuctioning ASD) in the span of 2,500 words. TL;DR: PLEASE do your research on mental health issues, lest you get someone in that community practically foaming at the mouth at you because you portrayed them so poorly by getting literally everything wrong. But additionally, keep researching even after the initial phase, because mental health conditions like ASD are way more complicated and nuanced than most media bothers to show, hence the designation in the DSM-5 changing to "Autism Spectrum Disorder" instead of "Autism + various sub-varieties of it." It's also why high-functioning ASD folk prefer the term "non-neurotypical" because in many cases we aren't considered "sick" or "broken" just "differently wired."
@aquariamoon2451
@aquariamoon2451 3 года назад
Great anecdote! I've read or seen plenty of stories that portray autism with such a charicature approach that really does make me suspect no research or the wrong type of research went into the project. One great high profile example was that movie by Sia back in march- in case anyone else is stumbling upon this comment there's a lot of great videos by autistic people explaining why that movie was so atrocious! The research was a HUGE factor. As a little aside/feedback- I was also diagnosed with Asperger's before the diagnosis system changed and used to use 'high functioning' as a term, too. But in recent years a lot of looking around has made me change my mind on the use of it and I'd recommend you to do some research on the use of 'high functioning/low functioning' as a discriptor of autism, too! There's quite some criticism of the use of the term that would probably be interesting to look at. There's a lot of unfortunate associations with the terms that end up unhelpful for all autistic people. 'low functioning' people have great strengths and skills of their own and are able to function just fine if accommodations are made- while 'high functioning' people still often need support. So it's considered by many to be a bit misleading and can come across as hurtful to only judge the person on whether or not they have the adaptive ability to basically blend in to the demands of society enough. You're right though that some people have the privilege of being able to partially pass as neurotypical in some situations- so they can avoid the stigma of being considered 'sick' or 'broken'. With the complicating factor in that case being that when they DO need help it's often more difficult to get it because they're not percieved as disabled. I hope you find this useful in some way!

fishing tips! when the line goes red it’s best not to hold down the button to pull anymore, but you can still tap the reel button in brief, careful little intervals to keep the fish close to you! i don’t think there are any upgrades past this point unfortunately, so it’s rly down to technique

"Muesli" "It was a health food craze a few years back." I always thought it was the same as granola, but maybe not. Here it's a staple breakfast food (or add it to your dessert yoghurt), also popular is the trademarked crispy variant Cruesli (very sugary).

I was that kid who ate a lot of weird things growing up and only regretted a few of them. I think my tally is grass, sand (unwillingly), pen ink (bitter, ew), a mix of salt, pepper, and sugar, a mix of milk, and water, evergreen tree leaves (frequently), water off ginko leaves (also frequently), and cartilage out of a ham bone (ew). It's neat to see how my experiences eating weird things compares to other people's.

cuttlebones absolutely are real cuttlefish bones. it acts as both a way for the bird to groom their beak, and as a calcium supplement to their diet. i dunno why we use the bones of that one fish specifically, but here we are.

Making a list would definitely be helpful - I've noticed that both Dan and Carrie are hitting overload. so they'll say "we should do this next" and then get distracted by something, and forget what they were about to do. Jotting down notes on a list outside the game, while it may slow things down for a moment while note-taking, will free up the cognitive load that's currently going into trying to remember plans. Personally, playing solo and not worrying about keeping up entertaining commentary at the same time, I generally only resort to outside notes for late game achievement hunting, but compiling those lists does involve raiding the Wiki for information on where to catch specific fish, and what goes into specific recipes...

Surströming is a very special swedish dish and is distinctly different from pickle herring (translated into sill). If you youtube armericans trying surstromming I'm sure there'll be a lot of videos. Basicly, it's heavily fermented and sold in pressurised cans which one are not allowed to bring on planes beacuse that they might explode, and they stink so bad they would be considered a hazard.

I don't think that's possible. That part of Atul's quest is locked behind food and house improvements past the ice and rocks. Gwen is required to progress past ice (no other passenger accessible in starting area can be completed before ice). Likewise, I don't think anyone other than Summer and Alice can be completed before rocks.

As for the pronunciation of focaccia: TLDR: Dan's way of saying focaccia was perfect Full explanation in italian phonetics: 95% of the times if in italian a "c" or "g" is followed by an "i" and then a, "a", "o" or "u" (like cia, gia, cio, gio and so on) the "i" is silent and is used just to create the sound "ch" instead of "k" or "j" instead of "g". So Dan pronunciation was almost perfect but for the "i" which should be silent HOWEVER that british way of pronouncing things is full of charm and character, I will be very sad if you start to pronounce Giovanni as Jovanni instead of Jiovanni plz don't.
