The Amsterdam show had a horn section and it just kept building up, and up and up, to such a blissful climax that left me utterly breathless. If anyone can find a version of Don't Just Do Something with the brass section I will be FOREVER grateful.
2001... I was at the show in SF at The Fillmore on 11/11/01, and what he mentions is true. I've a collection of audio and video boots that spans the gamut, and that version from that show is one of the greatest moments in their live career. The audio-only recording I have isn't great, but certainly listenable. And in comparison to others that I have from that same tour (and around that few weeks time) don't really compare... The solo trumpet player hits the most amazing lines, which along with the rest of the horn section, makes for the most bombastic crescendo I've heard them play.... It closed the main set, setting up a crowd roar that brought an undeniable encore. It was EPIC.
Just noticed someone below me was at an SF show where they played this tune but found it overblown.... Diff'rent stokes, I guess, but fuck me if that was the same tour I'm talking about. I'd KILL to be overblown like that again.
I saw them in Amsterdam on 2001/2002 I do not recall exactly when; the only thing I know is that my jaw was for about 2H literally on the ground, I could not move I was completely blown away.
