This vid does not provide much info, so here is what I know: The stove uses alcohol fuel. It was made available in China right after the Culture Revolution about early 1980's for use by farmers who could produce their own ethanol fuel in home-made local distilleries. Based on my travels to inner China in the early 1980's, any ethanol produced by the locals was consumed as drink rather than used for cooking fuel.
explorer mike actually these were designed before ww-ii in germany because germany had no domestic petroleum but they did have a substantial alcohol production industry, so these types of stoves became very common because alcohol was a common fuel. during the war germany really ramped up alcohol production and it was used as rocket fuel as well as fuel for fighter aircraft. after the war alcohol remained a common fuel and stoves of this design continued to be made for many years.
