Splash Mountain Deleted Song "Sooner or Later"

This song, sung by a mother possum and rabbit (respectively) and their babies, was originally supposed to be heard while going up the lift to the final drop. It was replaced with "Burrow's Lament," an ominous version of "Everybody's Got A Laughing Place."
While this song is featured in the Splash Mountain soundtrack's demo tape, I cut this version from the Splash Mountain medley featured on the album A Musical History of Disneyland.
I'm actually not certain if this song was ever used in the ride at all, or was only recorded for the demo tape. If any Disney Parks experts out there know the answer, please tell me in the comments. ^_^

Confirmed -- I rode as a kiddo during the soft open or shortly after opening and this song was present in the burrows with the rabbit and her buns and possum and her babies. When we returned later with the family I *INSISTED* to them that the song in that room had changed but nobody believed me. Agreed it was a bit too dramatic a tone change before the final lift hill. :)

@Garbage Guy Nope, like I said I was a kid and (back then) didn't have a camcorder. All I know is when I rode it again later and tried to convince my family that song had changed they didn't believe me either. I guess some things never change!

Someone found a video with this song in the ride during the soft opening! It’s on RU-vid currently :)

This is a good song (and a nice homage to Hattie McDaniel's song in the movie "Song of the South") but it's way too hopeful and it gives away the ending. Burrow's Lament is much darker and more foreboding, which increases the intensity as the passengers are being led up the mountain.

Burrow's Lament suits for the ride's scene because it is heard intimidating compared to Sooner or Later which is rather happy tune.

Burrows lament is a metaphor for a bad trip on shoots. The whole ride is really. Have you seen the laughing place? There's huge shrooms with blacklights and neon stuff and everyone is laughing hysterically...my kind of party.

There is a bluegrass version of this song in Magic Kingdom's Splash Mountain queue area and Tokyo Disneyland's Grandma Sara's Kitchen restaurant in Critter Country.

This is nice, but it does nothing to build the tension to the drop. It's too optimistic. I can see why they changed it.

Anyone here since they announced the changing of splash mountains name? So sad they’re getting rid of one of the most iconic mountains in Disney (space, Matterhorn, splash, thunder) but it makes sense. I’ll always miss the ambiance and ride that was splash mountain

While it really does fit and I can see why they would use it for a while, but it completely gives away the ending. Burrow's Lament fits better. It makes you fear for Brer Rabbit, even if you know the outcome already.

Actually, Sis Rabbit sings Sooner or Later. No wonder she sounds different in Burrows Lament. Burrows Lament stars Mother Rabbit instead of Sis Rabbit.
@brersam9473
@brersam9473 3 года назад
@Garbage Guy Well... technically, in the final ride, Mother Rabbit has baby rabbits sitting at her table. So they could be her babies. Sis Rabbit probably had babies too because who else could have done the backing vocals?

It doesn't really fit the ominous mood that the lift has, which is most likely why. They probably switched it to give it a bigger fear factor and buildup to the drop. Although I love this song!

Well, IMO, it IS GOOD, and sorta sweet, but that's the problem. In the context the song was going to be used, it is too nice and sweet and doesn't do the job to anticipate the intimidating drop. I actually like this, just not in the way that it would be in the ride. I was actually singing it all day today cause I just randomly thought of it and got it stuck it my head lol.

This sounds like a broadway song for some reason lmao (this whole ordeal actually gives off rare cut broadway song vibes). I prefer this to laughin place reprise though, because it sounds a bit creepy due to how hopeful but sad they sound. I also like the children harmonizing with sis rabbit. Then the scene cuts to the vultures and shows brer rabbit in a sort of hopeless position.

Did they take the song Madonna sang in Dick Tracy and changed the words a bit. I mean the song she sang is even called, Sooner or Later.
@mikerotch145
@mikerotch145 7 лет назад
This is a slightly altered version of the song "Sooner or Later" from "Song of The South" (the movie that Splash Mountain is based on), which came out waaaay before Madonna's song Dick Tracy. The original version from "Song of The South" had nothing to do with Be're Rabbit.
