Just take about 1-2 hours to learn motion controls. Trust me I used to despise motion controls at first, and then I really wanted to get better so I used it and it helped so much. Now stick controls feel weird lmao

The key to Splatoon has always been mastering working your sticks and your motion in harmony. It's such a rewarding feeling when you get it right because you start to feel a more physical connection with the game I think.

Dude I never play shooting games because of the feel of the stick controls are just wonky and weird never liked it. But when I played Splatoon, oh man I just wished that all shooting games had motion controls. It's just too good it feels very natural. Especially comes in handy when you do those flick shots!

Yes i agree!! I actually find watching gameplay with stick controls so hard to watch, i only watch gameplay with motion. Once you start playing with motion you can tell the difference in how smooth your movement is.

I hated shooters because I hate using the analog stick to aim. The reason I love Splatoon is because it implements motion control and it is way better for precise aiming than an analog stick (though mouse is probably still the best).

You probably already know this, but for the audience, can also turn around by facing the opposite direction and pressing Y, it'll automatically direct the camera in the direction you're facing.

The best analogy I have for the gyro controls is that it's like a genre of music. You might not like it at first (unless you like trying new things), and even more so if someone is trying to force it on you. But if you take the time to listen and get used to it, you may just find it to be something you enjoy a lot. And if it's something you enjoy, then you might want to share it with everybody and encourage them to try it- or force them to and accidentally discourage them from ever trying it again.

I just picked up a sniper, I use to use stick controls but everyone recommended tilt controls and I am highly struggling but practice makes perfect 🤷🏻‍♀️

I literally don't even understand what the problem is. For some people I think it's more preference than anything else. Now yes, let's get the obvious out of the way. Motion controls are better but, if sticks are better for you then use stick. My friends are primarily stick players and they just play just fine. If not great. I just think that people should just use what they like best and not what people tell them to use. Now yes, if one can, learn motion controls. They are wonderful. But just pick what you like. The reason why my friends play stick is because one gets motion sick and the other has been playing shooters all his life.

Off topic, but man are the ranked battles a lot more one sided now. The lack of invincibility specials is good, but makes comebacks a lot harder. Quite a double-edged sword

It's not like I haven't tried motion controls it's just that I don't really have the space and trust in myself to use it effectively. I'm also just used to stick controls from Splatoon 1 and I'm just worse with motion controls probably because I'm lazy with such quick movements. Y'all its good to give advice, but I feel like the number of kills per round, depends on how good you are at the game, not so much how you play. I understand how playing with stick can hinder someone's gaming, and I understand how playing with motion can hinder someone's gaming; but it all depends on who the person is, and how they like to game.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Even though when I started using motion I hated it but now after using it for a while it feels so comfortable and I get my kills so much quicker and before when I was using stick it actually was restricting me from painting and splatting faster

As a PC Gamer, I used motion control day one on Splatoon. And was pretty much immediately used to it. It just feels so more natural than using sticks. Dare I say it's almost like using a mouse.

So how exactly do you snap to the target ?

I never played Splatoon before and I just ordered Splatoon 2, I had every intention to switch it to stick when I found out you start with motion, but I will try the motion first and I will use it for a while and if it still don't feel right, then I will use stick where I know I can feel more comfortable.

has anyone also realized the joy of the carbon roller's jump attack? the roller itself HAS to hit in order to kill, so on tower control you jump up, raise the roller towards the sun, and slam that sword down on your enemies (when your that close it is best to jump onto them and do this) AND IT FEELS AWESOME DOING IT

Also for some who are having a lot of trouble with motion, just max the sensitivity out. It gives you more range. It's less difficult to get used to that way.

Though i use motion controls you technically can move the camera quickly behind you by pressing the y button and the direction you want to face, but this option is also possible with motion controls.

Definitely agree, motion controls are way more fluid. My only problem is that I can never lock onto enemies like you do, whenever I do a quick turn to aim at someone my motion does a little wiggle in the end instead of that perfect lock-on that you do. I wonder if I should change my sensitivity, I use the same one as you.

I'm honestly surprised that this functionality isn't used as often because the PS4 controller DOES have a motion sensor. This kind of motion controls is what I'd like to see used more often. Another idea: make the analog stick camera controls and the motion change your reticle position.

What I did in splatoon 1 is whenever I needed to turn around a corner and keep the camera that way, I would use stick controls to do so as I wouldn't have to keep the game pad turned for that long and be uncomfortable. But when I was in combat, needed to go up a wall, needed to be precise, or didn't have to make a big turn, I would use motion controls

Woah, can't believe there are so many stick control haters in the comments, like 90% of all the comments are bashing on stick controls like I do with my daily breakfast. The fact is that this video is mainly geared towards newer players, people who are comfortable with stick controls are fine with how they do it. I switch between motion and stick controls based on the weapon I use, it's much more beneficial to one's own gameplay to use one's own judgement.

So basically, since the game has a "snap to target" feature cut on while using motion controls, it puts people who actually want to aim manually (with the sticks) at a disadvantage. I imagine that if the snap to target feature worked with sticks, no one would use motion controls.

I had a very difficult time adjusting to motion controls on switch thsn I did when I played the first game on the Wii u... I think it was because the gamepad on the Wii u was much larger. Making more subtle movements easier without feeling like your playing with the controller upside down

For me personally, I've always hated vertical aiming with dual sticks. It always feels awkward too me. What I love about the motion aiming in Splatoon (and Botw) is that I get perfectly precise vertical aiming while I usually use the camera for most horizontal turning in combination with the motion. It works great.

I decided to force myself to learn motion controls and I'm so happy I did. I can't even use the analog controls anymore after seeing the light. Only took me an hour or two to adjust and I hated it with a passion to start, it just felt so obscure. Now I wish every game had this option.

I guess people use sticks because they found it difficult to use motion controls at the start and didnt bother tying to learn how to use it. i also found motion controls difficult at the beginning however i had no idea how to turn them off because i was a noob lmao. but now its pretty much impossible for me to play w/ sticks and i find motion controls muchhh easier

When I play with motion controls (which I use all the time) I use 5+ motion sensitivity and (R) sensitivity because when you shoot at someone, it's much more quicker and easier hitting. It hasn't got the same affect with stick controls.

I am new to Splatoon 2 and use motion controls since the beginning. I only tried stick control once but i didn´t find it accurate and fast enough. Thx for this comparison. To the stick users: Try motion controls and stick with it for a while. After a while you don´t have to think about how to do the inputs. Like riding a bike.

When I bough sploon1, I tried both sticks and motion. Motion felt so much better, I couldn't switch without feeling like I did something wrong. Managed to get to S rank a few times off motion, and motion in sploon2 feels just as great, if not better than the first time

Motion controls are the reason why I get around 15-20 kills a ranked game.

I first played Splatoon 1 with motion controls and I thought it felt weird. I then found out how to turn to stick controls, and after a couple matches. I came running back and haven't turned motion controls off since.

i should try harder on this.. honestly i do perfectly weel with sticks in splatoon 1, the thing is that the first time i played the motion ones, was when i was in a house of a friend that had splatoon 2.. i had a bad time using them

in splatoon 1 i used to use sticks but i had always some problems since you can't jump when you're aiming for example. In splatoon 2 i try to use motion control. i am playing the single player mode to learn how to use it

Question for people that play with motion: do you find yourself having to re-center with Y a lot? I found that I had to do it quite a bit a first and that’s what lead me to stick control. After watching this I’m going to get back to motion but I would love to get some input.

Depends on what kind of controller you are using Joycon, left/ right hand > motion on because you can aim using the right joycon Pro controller / joycon grip mode > motion off.

I'm trying to learn to use motion but I just have a hard time turning around. Do people use the right stick to move around and make precise aiming with motion or do people actually use the Y button instead and don't bother with the right stick at all. I'm just not understanding how people can turn around without hurting their wrist. What am I doing wrong?

this is an interesting video but it doesn't tell us much. Even with motion controls on I can't turn or snap to targets half as fast as you. How can you turn and hit targets so well? Is there a technique or how you hold the controller which helps? I heard from some people that they only use motion controls for up and down motions and slight adjustments and the right stick for turning; but with you turning so fast and tracking targets as fast as a mouse, are you aiming for targets completely with motion controls? what drills do you do to get better? You should do another video with tips and hints to get better at motion controls and maybe videoing your hands and controller whilst turning and tracking targets. Also you didn't say what your sensitivity settings were and what controller you are using.

Wait but why didn't you use reset camera to quick turn with stick controls? That's a thing. also, its fine to encourage different controls but don't say its not possible to compete at a high level with stick, plenty of actual tourney players use stick and make it work. that's just gonna make new players (like I was) feel very discouraged trying the different controls and not feeling comfortable with motion.

I personaly love motion controls, the only time i would use stick is if i just wanted to fool around and challenge myself. I started splatoon not having any shooter experience, but it made me use motion controls in the beggining of splatoon 1 and i never used anything but motion controls.

I really want to use motion controls I do. But I physically just can't. First of all you can't invert the Y axis which is what I play on. Second I play on my TV not Handheld and when I've tried it with motion I feel like the pro controller gets locked at stupid angles, like I'm always looking at my feet. Lastly you still have to use the analog to turn left and right which defeats the purpose no? Someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong because I actually do want to use motion controls.

Two questions: 1 - Do you use the right thumbstick at all when using motion controls? 2 - Do motion controls work better with a Pro Controller/Grip or with separated/loose Joy Cons?

Motion controls are just sooooo hard and when I go into a match I always lose if I use motion and always win when I use sticks. Plus I am more accurate with sticks.

I agree with this video, but i suggest watching squidkids video on this! Stick controls can actually turn 90 degrees faster than motion (or about the same) using y turns, if you hold the direction and press Y (to reset the camera) you will quickly snap 90 degrees, and you can repeat this to do 180 turns just as fast as motion. This is kinda pointless because its just making it unnecessarily harder for yourself since motion is just aim and shoot lol. But thought i would point it out since it wasn't mentioned and those who use sticks usually use this when they are at high level play.

I have high sensitivity stick controls for rapid camera movement and low sensitivity motion controls for precision aiming.

I'd use them if you could also move the Y axis with the right stick like BotW with the motion controls being more of an assist rather than main controls. I'm also just used to standard FPS games.

Okay, motion controls work for you? I'm glad! That's fantastic! Good for you, your performance is great and you clearly demonstrated that! And yeah, experimenting with them is good and I'm sure if anyone wants to be professional they should know the full benefits of either method! But let me tell you, my mind CAN NOT wrap around how to use the motion controls as anything but a 'make me want to vomit' function. The Joy Con is NOT a mouse. I can not stabilize my hand immediately after doing a 360 motion, or even while just casually aiming at someone in front or above me, like I would be able to with a mouse on a hard flat surface. My hand likes to bob while playing video games, and even if my controller is docked to the Switch, in the controller dongle, or separated in each hand, there is NO comfortable way for me to use the motion controls that feels natural or right. On top of that, if I keep using my wrist to twist the controller around like that, especially in either minute or rapid motions, my wrist is going to tire out, get sore, or just have a lack of energy to play that way in the first place (as an artist for a living I USE my wrist constantly to do art and motions controls REQUIRE a lot of wrist energy). So after a long day of arting, the last thing I want to do when picking up Splatoon is to be flailing my wrist around EVEN MORE than I already have! Also, what is this "You can't 360 without motion controls" nonsense? Did you forget the Y button exists? The "snap the camera to the direction you're looking" button? To 360 all I need to do is gently tap backwards on the movement stick and poof, I'm looking behind me. Will I ever be a top-pro Splatoon player that has a chance to participate in E3 tournaments? No, of course not! But I play well enough and get 1st and 2nd place a decent enough amount of times without motion controls to be doing SOMETHING right! So yes, its GOOD to try out motion controls, and I'm sure plenty of people enjoy them and will do better with them, even people who normally wouldn't experiment with them should try them! But they will NEVER be the way I enjoy Splatoon, not now, not ever. They just do not work for me. We are not all equal in how we play games, we all need to play them the way that best suites our needs.

I've given motion controls a good try played with them for 2 or 3 hours and tried stick controls, personally I prefer stick never had a problem playing the game. Guess it's just personal preference.
