Sometimes I feel game specific directs are better the general ones-and this one could be case in point. Furthermore, the Splatoon series is by far some of the most creative out of the box thinking Nintendo utilizes.
It's funny because it also seems like this is the one franchise Nintendo actually actively listens too. People requested a bow since Splatoon 1. Boom, bow. People really wanted a party system just like every other online multiplayer game with shooters. Boom, party system added. People wanted your online data to be saved to your account instead of your system in case of system loss or breaking. There ya go! Online data now saved to Nintendo's servers instead of your system.
The biggest change I saw was being able to pick your main slots. Just straight up. No more looking awkward cuz of the lack of a good Main Slot on your fresh gear!
The locker room feature is perfect for crossovers. Nintendo can add merch from different Nintendo franchises into the game, like a Super Mario skateboard, or the Hyrule Sword. And imagine if they did a crossover with sports leagues, allowing you put pennants of your favorite sports teams into your locker. Plz, I wanna rep my Devils. Or they could even partner with manga like the Squid Girl crossover from Splatoon 1, allowing us to put Anya emotes all over our lockers. There's so much potential here.
Yknow I'm really confused what people like Roger mean when they say "This just feels like something they could've added in Splatoon 2." Like??? So far we've got new weapon types, new movement tech, new animations, new spawn mechanics, a lot of new salmon run stuff, a new story mode, a change to how splatfests work, changeable victory emotes, a new mode outside of the normal multiplayer and singleplayer, etc... like, what exactly does it take for it to not be "similar" to its predecessor? better graphics? they're small, but there's definitely been improvements. New ranked modes? well Clam Blitz was added halfway through Splatoon 2's first year, so I don't see how that would be game changing.
Cosmetics, cosmetics, a small change to splatfests, and movement mechanics that obviously work on previous stages because most of the stages are returning. Not even a single ranked mode.
Even just the new spawn method wouldn't work in Splatoon 2 without huge changes to the game, so no, it wouldn't be possible to just add these things to Splatoon 2.
You are probably the second person I've heard say that this could have been an expansion for Splatoon 2, but if anybody bought the game digitally, that means a big ass download. I feel like this game is just a little too large to be just DLC. Not to mention, I can see enough differences between the two games that it's worth owning both.
The song that deep cut sang gave me japanese, Brazilian and Indian vibes ❤️ And I feal like Splatoon 2 was a little rushed while Splatoon 3 looks like a actual sequel.
By the time at the start you were already saying it looked like stuff they could have added to Splatoon 2, but it's already more different than Splatoon 2 was from Splatoon 1.

By rogers weird logic, they coulda added the dualies and salmon run to an updated port of splat 1 and called it a day, cuz that’s all that was new on launch of splat 2. I’m really confused as to what he’s even asking for.
I feel like another big upgrade or I guess change of this game is the style. Of course, since style is one of Splatoons greatest strengths. With that, I kinda include ui upgrades (also including how they updated the animation for the ink refill), but in general just Splatsvilles vibe. In general, the theme, especially coming out with Deep Cut and the Splatfest, seems to be somewhat reminiscent of Brazilian culture, I feel? LIke, the Splatsfest definitely feels like a mix of Japanese summer festival and Brazilian carneval, the music switching between a "soran bushi" and samba, and that is also kinda reflected with Shiver having this traditional Japanese, kinda Rakugo/festical leader-vibe with her fan, while Frye definitely has some Brazilian vibes, with the city itself perhaps also resembling the Brazilian side a bit more with like that backstreet feel that I feel doesn't exist as stereotypically in Japan? Previously, that reminded me more of stereotypical US cities, but I can definitely also see that with Brazil or the rest of the Americas. That, to me, also feels like it at least partially justifies a new game, since a major style-shift like that would of course be hard to do with Splatoon 2 as it is and has been. In general, I feel like there are limits to how much they could add to the base-game engine-wise, so they probably just chose this point in time for a new game to kinda stay ahead of that, they could've maybe extended Splatoon 2s life a bit longer, but then Splatoon 3 would've released later, either still on the Switch and thus with a shorter lifespan depending on how long the Switch is still going to make it, which as you said is probably for about as long as they plan to support Splatoon 3 with new content, or wait until the new system is out, the next Switch or not, and leave the fans hanging for a while longer after they're done with 2. -also. that new card-game minigame totally remined me of Dungeon Dice Monsters, that one sidegame in the OG YuGiOh!-anime, just kinda wanted to share that-
Interested in learning more bout some Sploon. My relationship with it is weird in that i actually became a little less interested in the series after getting the chance to try 2. Something about it just didn't click. But willing for a 2nd chance with 3 of any changes give it that missing spark

Reworked everything down to the minute detail? I feel like even if you're a person that was blown away by this show case you can't say that with a straight face. There are 2 new movement abilities. There are the same ranked game modes that have no changes besides being called anarchy modes. Am I missing something here? I really feel like I watched a different presentation than a lot of other splatoon fans.
@@DankMemeCenterX Woah, what a massive content addition. Me, someone who's clocked 1500 hours into Splatoon 1 and 2 is totally going to get so many new experiences from a minor change to an existing mode that I've already ranked up in twice. Bravo Nintendo. 60 dollars well spent.
Check out the videos from other youtubers that detail things that were not outlined in the Direct! For example, one big (overdue) improvement: your online player data is stored server-side, tied to your Nintendo Account. And the game is supported by Cloud Saves, I believe for all single-player data. Plus, if you have a Splatoon 2 save progress, you'll start Splatoon 3 with things already unlocked, based on your level!
I hope they expand the locker concept into a bedroom in the next game, or a DLC. I remember the loading screen of Splatoon 1 showing a bedroom and I always wanted to explore it lol.
The announcer for this Direct actually sounds like the lady who does the English voice for Sakura from Naruto. Not sure if it is actually her or not though.
Lockers are awesome, even when playing Splatoon 2, I missed every Splatfest, so I really want to experience this. Good reaction video. Update; why did they make the splatfest before release?! Confused.
If you feel like this content could be added to Splatoon 2, the same could be said for the CoD and BF series. Plus, more so for game genres where graphics are not that important either.

splatoon 2 is a functionally broken game it has HEAVY input delay and lag, because its 90% recycled from splatoon wiiu code which is why a new game IS nescessary, and they added ALOT to make it worth
I've played a lot of Splatoon, and I thought this was kind of a let down. It doesn't feel like as big of a step forward from Splatoon 2 as 2 was from 1. It makes me wonder where five years of development time went. They didn't even show off a new Ranked mode. Really squashed my hype.
I went into this with low expectations, and was still let down in a way. I was thinking, alright, at least one new ranked mode right? But no... there isn't even one new ranked mode. Hardcore fans keep harping on the movement mechanics that were added. Yeah, that changes the game, but that 100% could have been implemented in Splatoon 2. Nearly every past stage is returning, so it would have definitely worked in that game. Special changes alone are not cutting it for this game like they did in Splat 2 imo. It was fine for that to be more of the same, with new features. The game franchise needed an entry on the Switch, and it got that with some new additions as well. This however? The franchise has already been on the Switch. If you're going to make a new game and split the audience away from 2, you need some kind of substantial improvement. Imo, it feels like there is less real content added to this game compared to even Splatoon 1 to 2. So much of the "features" are quality of life improvements that are simply changes instead of additions. Splatfests with 3 teams, cool. But how hard was that to actually develop? How much content is that actually giving you? New Salmon Run waves, also great. But what's new? There are cosmetic systems, which I like and the card game thing, which has potential. But imo, that's all I could really consider new content, and it all could have been added into 2. Keep in mind, I say this as a person preordering the game.
