I've been a fan since 1980. As an American, I learned years ago that if you meet a New Zealander and tell him or her you're a fan of SE or like the Finn brothers, you have a friend for life.
Probably the same with any Australian :-) a couple of members of this band went on to form another band called Crowded House. You’ve probably already heard their stuff but if you haven’t - give it a try it’s awesome.
My biggest musical regret is that I got into the Enz only 10 years ago. It just wasn't on my radar. I take every opportunity I can to turn people in to this magic. My kids are all fans at 12, 14 and 17 respectively and I feel proud.
My biggest musical regret is missing the Tool - Lateralus concert as I had an exam the day after it, so stayed in memorising BS paragraphs I didn't understand instead. It was the best album I'd ever heard, changed my taste in music. My degree was obviously a massive waste of time though. Many regrets..
Why do I always find the best music when I can't sleep? It's happened over and over and over. It's like the borg is f-ing with me, I swear! This is at least #5.
Saw them play back in the 90s when I was still living in Wellington, NZ. I've seen so many big acts over the years, but to see Split Enz popping and pogoing out of a giant paper bag to "I SEE RED " - priceless!
Favourite Split Enz song ever since it was released. Fantastic guitar riff. [although they performed some wonderful ballads - I Hope I Never being their best - always wondered why they didn't write more songs along this rock vein] Very talented guys musically speaking. Not sure why it was Tim Finn who left the band to pursue a solo career [ironic how younger brother Neil went on to a successful career] because the sum of all members made Split Enz an excellent unique band.
My dad took me to a musical when I was 5 and this is the only song I remember from the musical, it's been 3 years since my dad died and this is still one of my favourite memories with him
I have this album on cassette taped it off the radio station decades ago. I play it in my car....yes 2000 toyota factory cd/ cassette player. CD player doesn't work. I feel like I a am my 20s with tapes in my car LOL
Classic! I remember this since 1979! Such a wild track. To me, the image of the drummer playing while sitting lazily in a big armchair is honestly one of the most hysterical things in rock history!
I’m a Trump supporter. And in time you’ll come around, just like Rogan and Musk. Who were both lefties before. (I’m a liberal at heart btw. But the definition has nearly changed.)
@@mixedcryptoarts3579 If Rogan (who let Alex Jones spout conspiracy theories unchallenged on his podcast, amongst other things) and Musk ("The coronavirus panic is dumb" amongst other DAf things he's said/tweeted) are your benchmark for quality I'm going to be quite happy to not share their company or the company they keep. Mostly cause I haven't had a head injury of am myself am part of a minority that is subject to discrimination and abuse.
Well, they were from New Zealand, but were extremely popular in Australia. Were you maybe thinking of 'Skyhooks' (with Ian 'Shirley' Strachan and Red Symonds)? Cheers!
Rubbish !!! Look again... just random crosses of different shapes and configurations. Perhaps you are reading too much into an innocent 1970's 'New Wave' costume design!
I jumped for joy when I first heard this song in high school. There had been so much godawful crap on Australian radio over the past few years. In hindsight the melody here sounds very XTC - but, remarkably, songs XTC hadn't yet written.
I don't understand why red is so angry, it one of the lowest frequency light waves, I see ultra violet when I'm passed off, short wavelength, higher energy
I wonder if this song would be allowed in these days of Wokeness -- some extreme feminists might accuse the song of encouraging anger towards women. Luckily no such wokeness when this was recorded.
@@davidstevenson9517 I was obviously referring to it being made these days, not looked at these days. When people twist/misinterpret my words, i see red I see red I see red!
@@annetownsend5888 I think you'll find the reference to 'baby' is his ex female partner -- not a literal baby. When my baby's walking down the street I see red, I see red, I see red How could someone wicked walk round free I see red, I see red, I see red I see red, I see red, (hey!) I see red
Um, no. As a long-time fan of both I can safely say the music is only the same in regards to the genre they both get labeled with. Different influences; different arrangements; different mood...not Devo-ish at all.
