Salona was an ancient city and the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia. Salona is located in the modern town of Solin, next to Split, in Croatia. Salona was founded in the 3rd century BC and was mostly destroyed in the invasions of the Avars and Slavs in the seventh century AD.
Many Roman characteristics can be seen such as walls, a forum, a theater, an amphitheater, public baths and an aqueduct.
The main entrance is near the Hotel Salona Palace. It's possible to bypass the main entrance, park your car next to the amphitheater and enter from there. If you decide to use public transport take the bus No. 1 from central Split stops, and it will take you all the way to the main entrance. Salona is open Monday-Sunday 9am-3pm;. Outside of opening hours it's possible to visit the park either through the main entrance (the gate is normally left open) or from the entrance at the amphitheater.
Admission to the archaeological park is ~5 EUR. The price includes entrance to the Archaeological Museum of Split. If you get to the park, outside of the opening hours there won't be any admission charged, but you won't be able to enter the Museum.
