I've been blessed with the opportunity to work with White Cherry Entertainment of the Tony Awards for over 10 years now and the talent of our brilliant Director Glenn Weiss never ceases to blow me away. This is him in action in the Broadcast truck.
And now he made his own viral moment at this year's Emmys when he proposed to his girlfriend during his acceptance speech. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MP-Opt-x1u0.html
It's a pretty small crowd that does these sorts of shows. You ride into battle with the best of the best, and you know you can trust them by this point. Still impressive considering there were only 1-2 rehearsals earlier in the day.
Holy shit imagine having to do this throughout the entire night/event... TV is cancer but major respect to production directors like this guy. What an animal!
Glen Weiss also directed the Oscars this year. I wish there was footage of what was happening in the van during envelope-gate. I have to say, he directed that incident well, capturing the card close-up and all the shocked reactions in the room!

The thing is, I found this incredibly overwhelming as well. However, when you watch the actual performance, it doesn't seem like the jump cuts are perpetual, it seems natural, I just think that the guy yelling at the screens makes it all much more frantic.
A totally unnecessary way of directing ANY sort of TV programme. It might look impressive to an observer who knows little about TV production, but verging on hysteria is not the way to go - even if he did win an award for his directing 'talents' !
He's got 14 emmys, so I wouldn't quote "talents." They're real. There are different styles of directing, neither are better or worse. I've heard similar complaints from others overseas, and for a true live news or sports program, where stuff can change at any moment, I can understand valuing calm much more. But this is a largely rehearsed affair, the only ad-lib bit being the crowd cuts. That's all raw passion by then. The team is all best-of-the-best and they're all leaning in too. That's how you win awards.
