That is not "honey locust", those logs are black locust. I can tell from the bark. Good job. I'm working on Osage Orange logs and I'm having a terrible time.

Keen observation proceeding and organized is the only way to produce quality anything. This is an amazing video. My Uncle was a woodsman. I’m sad about all his knowledge lost with his passing. Happy to see this!

I split rails too. So fulfilling. We do 40'ters. Squamish Valley: Split Rail Cedar Fence. 2016. Part II This is my video in Canada. That is a split rail fence on rocky land. Entrance and very steep on the opposite side. IT is heavy to slow down a bike or small car. Really great video..

In Southwest Virginia I used to split this same kind of wood, honey locust, when I was in my late 20's and lemme tell you that it is pretty damned hard work. This guy makes it look easy. I'm 48 years old now and those rails that I split back then are still doing their job around the cemetery that I cut them for.

Yup...I will be 65 in a few days and I enjoy splitting these posts. We do most of these kinds of jobs ourselves here at Bejosh Farm. We do these videos so people will know all the jobs involved in farming. Thank you for your comment.

Am glad you are still able to do it. After 18 years in the army my back won't let me do that kind of work anymore. Be safe and take care of yourself.

Some hydraulic splitters can be extended to get longer pieces in it. Aka fence post long . Search "Elhydraulisk Vedklyv 1100 mm" if you want to see an example.

Great video and not as difficult to do as it may seem. I split up a pile of about 10 posts in under 1 hour. I’m surprised there isn’t more information and people using this method out there. I guess everyone is used to buying things cut already. I’ve wondered if it would save me any time splitting full Timbers for firewood into quarters before sawing it.

From the yellow wood and the bark, it looks like this is black locust. Black locust has thorns when young, but I haven't noticed them on older trees. Some honey locusts have big thorns on the trunk that probably defended it from megafauna that are now extinct. Enjoyed the video!

Glad you enjoyed the video...My husband did everything around the farm...from the time he was old enough to be in the milking barn and help with that chore... to planting, harvesting and feeding out the harvested crops he truly loved the farm life. Mechanics, carpentry and electrical work he did with ease most of the time... Unfortunately I lost him to brain cancer in 2018 and I cannot help but think he is smiling down on us knowing someone is still enjoying the videos we made about our farm life and the day to day running of it through the eyes of senior husband and wife who loved what they did, always together. Thank you.
