I bought the same axe. Haven't used it yet. The handle was also thick on mine. Also felt the bit was a little thin for a tazzy.. more like a connie. I'm going to get it out and swing it. Probably going to replace the handle. Haha!
I think I have an idea I may do as far as the bevel. If you shave the handle down a bit i think it will change the whole feel of the axe. Looking forward to the video ;) and yes, unless you get that handle where you like it which is possible I can see you changing the handle quickly 😀 thx Killinger
Honestly that’s a pretty killer deal for an axe like that! I had no idea those tazzie heads were so expensive! Went to get one for the handle Buckin gave me and I was blown away lol
Look at you Buddy, Nice quick review. That axe definitely has potential. May look into one myself. I would change the handle first thing, and regrind the bit’s profile. Thanks Nick. Have a good week
Hey Nick, just wanted to say I really like and appreciate your videos. I am really glad I stumbled upon this video. I had questions about the Helko Werk Tassie that no one would answer. You answered them all. Great review of the axe and I feel it was a very honest one. I grew up in PA and know what the wood is like there. Thanks again
Nick, I bought the same axe a year ago. like you didnt like the handle, first i worked on it but eventually replaced it with a Hoffman 30" and really like it now. But i do really like my vintage tasi's that billy has taught me to hang. I enjoy your youtube sir
G’morn’n Mr Pix’l😎 Aye, she’s a beauty of a pattern on that one! Unfortunately I have far too many chopping axes and seeing that my grandfather’s double is my favorite, I won’t be ordering one up! The original Taz profile is where it’s at. With merely a glance you can tell she’s a splitter😍 Hey bud, get well soon, and that’s an order!🤨 Bless’ns Brother, Tedd
Lookin good Nick! With the vintage axe market being a bit crazy”thanks Buckin”, finding a new go to is a good idea! Looks like it might just be a keeper! Love ya brother ❤️🪓💚
Its interesting as well because when people make you an axe thats meaningful part if you doesn’t want to go crazy with it and risk breaking it.. and then the other half is like use it heavy… some of these other toys are for experiments.. thanks John
Get better soon Nick. I wasn't feeling well the week of Bunyan and man I was down in bed the whole week.. I am getting better and spending more and more time in the Woodyard like I was before.. But definitely get better soon.
HI Nick, thanks for showing that. I have been looking at that axe and considering buying it. You helped me in my decision. It is hard to see the profile on the website and i appreciate you showing it side by side to the Buckin Special. Helko has another axe that may have even wider profile the expedition I believe. I think I will get it instead of the Tazzy. Anyhow, I came over from Buckins channel, thought I would check yours out and I like what I see. Thank you for what you do bud. Have s blessed Christmas!!! Kyle
Nick I bought the same axe a couple years ago from Lamnia and had the exact thoughts on the handle but the more I use it the better the handle feels. The bit does stick in ash but that's probably me... Nice review.
Bro… good stuff 👍🏻 Wanting to pick me up a few killer splitting axes for firewood cutting primarily just pine and fur. Do you have any suggestions for me to pick up? Don’t really know too much about them but have been watching Billy Buckins for a while. Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks brother
Thanks for this review on the helko ! Your camera quality is top notch even with the low lighting . I'm out on my garbage route doing my day job . This makes me wanna go home and split haha
This is a nice axe, but more for cutting/feeling, not splitting. I got a splitting axe and a maul for that. This one is good for speed and cutting since I believe it's a competition axe. I was trying to decide between this one and the expedition which has a longer handle.
@@NickPixelTV I found your ATV fuel strainer video during some research. Very helpful and clarifying. I scratched my head wondering how you did the cool spin-trick at the end.🥃👏 That led me to your main page. The axe video started playing. Rest was fate. 😆 The polished headed axe took me back to the famed scene in 2001's American Psycho... i.ebayimg.com/images/g/NMwAAOSwjVZhsldC/s-l500.jpg
I was sad to learn your axe was cracked at the Bunyan event. Don’t know when it happened but I almost said to some of those using your axe to take it easy but didn’t and I am so sorry
Ahh Marty not your fault. Really its mine but it’s a tool and can be fixed. At the end of the day if we made people smile at bunyan and taking in the whole summary of events what more could we ask for ;) I wouldn’t take that weekend back I know that.
I have a little experience with an axe heating with firewood for over 40 years and it is easy to see when someone knows or doesn’t know about splitting wood. Hope your handle is repairable it is a beautiful axe and I know how much you cherish it. Hope your feeling better soon my friend. 🙏♥️👍
I might get some work from an axe. I use hardwood and split with an 8-pound maul. No competition though, I'm 68 and I enjoy doing my own firewood. Thanks for the comparison.
I think the fiskars splitting axe is the ultimate light weight tool for splitting mostly straight grained hardwoods. The all welded steel handle, one piece wedge shaped heavy maul is the bomb for some twisted grained woods. The use of the hydraulic log splitter means you are old,and tired wore out,and ready to use some ease and application of common sense.
hey Nick thanks for the video! I just realized that after watching your and & Buckin's video's, you're right next door. I did not know you were from Washington Co. I'm over in Allegheny, small world. So cool to see you guys cut and buck. I have 12 acres and me and my young sons are out every night splitting and bucking. keep up the good work bro. If you wanna cut some trees i have about 10 acres of black cherry that I'm working on. Always got the fire going inside and out and husky's and mac's are singing.
Awesome... I was looking at these too... Its a shame you didn't show making the changes to the axe handle on this video. I would like to see the process and progress. 🪓🤠👍
