Someone fell indeed by accident on the way, so they literally asked a random officer that was around to check on them, while still guiding the ambulance. Oh and that breakaway shot you mentioned was from a bystander that happened to film it and sent it to the police, so they added it to the video with their permission. And lastly, police and other emergency vehicles are allowed to drive on buslanes/the tram track during emergencies.
@puffdaddyfpv7046

Also that break away shot was taken in front of a hospital (MCH Westeinde) so it was pretty strange that they passed it and went to Hospital Haga Leyweg. But I guess there is a good reason for it.

@@puffdaddyfpv7046 it depends on which medical care the patient needs, some hospitals have specialized doctors for specific things. Also whats fun to hear is that its a random route made on the spot, the tramtrack thing wasnt really planned, also later on they were saying we go straight ahead, but the other guy was like: but we need to go left here. But there was presumably a lot of traffic left so they took a different route. Its insane how well this communication on the spot goes.

About "they cross at the most random of times" they don't see it as Crossing since it's a bike path within a pedestrianized area of the Hague. And we're Dutch... We have a saying "er is niets zo groen als een rood stoplicht in Amsterdam" (there is nothing as green as a red traffic light in Amsterdam) and that applies to cyclists in general since jaywalking and the cycling equivalent are LEGAL...

The "rechtsaf linksaf" comment essentially means take the lane that is for traffic turning right and turn left. But if you literally translate it you get: "turn right turn left" And if you're driving in the Netherlands you can see this comment in 2 ways. Take a turn right and directly after that turn left or take a left turn... But this way they do it is also really logical.

Great to see these people doing their thing. Staying calm, great communication and cooperation. And as traffic participants we have to do out bit too. Stay calm, follow instructions (don't try to quickly cross the road anyway) and (especially when there is no escort) calmly look for the best way to let them pass as quickly and safely as possible. Someone in there is possibly fighting for their life. Great vid!
@darkknight8139
@darkknight8139 2 года назад
Ah, this is the one with the blue car at the end (10:03 in this video). The person in that car freaked out apparently, because there were so many lights and sirens, and didn't know what to do. The police officer said with a bit of a cynical undertone: "even om dat blauwe autootje heen, want die zit in de stress." Translated: Just go around that little blue car, he is a bit stressed out. These kind of convoys are quite rare in The Netherlands, but common in The Hague and Rotterdam area than in others, because quite a few specialized hospitals are in that region. These cities are about 30 km apart, so this kind of quick and steady transport is ideal. The trip in this video was only about 6.5 km (4 miles).

Years ago I lived in Manhattan NYC and from my appartement I could see the Queensburo bridge. At one time around rushhour I saw an ambulance with emergency signs and sounds on the bridge. Around 5 minutes later the vehicle had moved about 1 carlength. Traffic was completely stuck. 45 minutes later the ambulance was still on the bridge. I am still wondering If the person in the emergency vehicle had reached the hospital in time. I am also wondering If police motorcycles could have helped. In this video the police-officers were continuously communicatief about which lane was free to use. I loved it that they also arranged help for the person who fell down on the street.
@xFD2x
@xFD2x 2 года назад
This crew would have cleared 1 lane on the Queensburo bridge. Say the transport would have to go left after the bridge, they would have pulled the lane for right going traffic empty, so the traffic they advanced would not end up on the ambulances route. On the other hand, traffic in NYC is has gone too far astray already. They should have solved that problem years ago.

@@xFD2x It is also the mentality of the people. There are videos like this from Germany, an ambulance driving on the highway thru traffic. Awesome video. I live in the Hague and these streets are all so familiar. Amazing how they locked down the city center right at the start, especially that narrow shopping street. Its always so busy and full of people. Props to everyone getting out of the way, but there are always assholes of course who don't. One thing I am curious about is why they didn't drive into HMC Westeinde which is right outside the center. They literally drove right past it and went to Haga instead. Perhaps cause of the type of emergency care needed.

Yes probably because of the care needed! I'm not sure on all the other specialties but the cardiac ICU is at the Haga and obviously the childrens hospital. Sad to say there's a serious chance it could be for the latter because there's 2 ambulances which is a bit strange for 1 patient and with the big C maybe a parent is in there? This is speculation of course

It has to do with capacity at the place where the accident is and what kind of help is needed. For instance: If a surgeon is needed with a particular skill set it is easier to transport the victim to that particular hospital.

@nielsdegroot9138
@nielsdegroot9138 2 года назад
If they pass a hospital on their way then either: 1) it doesn't provide the specific care needed. 2) it has no available capacity. 3) they want to spread patients to avoid filling all capacity. Escorts are usually requested because time is very critical, or because the patient needs to be transported without too much acceleration/deceleration. Your case would probably be an example of a type 3. But you do that with less critical stuff, like a broken leg. Not with the types of rides which qualify for an escort. 😀 Also: in The Netherlands there are systems in place where hospitals can report their capacity (total and available) for certain types of care, and also reporting admission stops for types of care. Combined with information about the location and status of the ambulances in the region, the ambulance control centers use it to make decisions about which ambulance to assign, and where it needs to transport the patient to. Other countries probably have similar systems and procedures.
@PeterM_K
@PeterM_K 2 года назад
In this city (The Hague), the ER of the Hospital they passed is specialized in trauma care (collisions etc.), the Hospital they were going to is specialized in Heart failures. They both can do both, but when a case is specific, they chose to go to the most specialized Hospital. In this case, you see two ambulances: I think the Emergency Nurces of both ambulances were working on their patient in one ambulance. Which happens when they are providing CPR..
