Beaten by his grandfather, dead parents, distant adoptive parents that are actually his aunt and uncle, and a younger cousin/sister with very confused feelings. Kirito has always had such a rough family life, that I can't helpt but feel sorry for him. Growing up with Eugeo in the Underworld for his 'second childhood' might have created so much more than just a friendship bond. He's like a special person that just makes him feel loved and at home. Eugeo is his real family.
Definitely agree, you literlaly said the thing that makes me love there relationship so much even if they are just bros. The very end kirito says "If it's for your sake I can do anything" (don't know why they didn't translate it that way). Even in the light novel when he is heartbroken that a similar looking fluctlight in underworld is proven not to be Eugeo. But all of this shows Eugeo continuing to be a special existence to Kirito.
The same goes for Eugeo, he had a family that totally disregarded his feelings. In the novels, it is said that only his grandfather and older sister loved him; but the former died while the latter got married and left the house. That's the reason Kirito and Alice are EVERYTHING to him. They made him feel loved once more. After he lost them, he had plan to live by himself in the forest when he was old enough, and to just quietly wait for his life to "expire" when he was senile. The anime took away a lot of his emotional baggage.
Honestly, I don't know any actual Japanese, but from I do know it seems like there are a few mistranslations in this scene. I seriously wanna know what they're actually saying bc I love this duo so much
@@laurencedioscorides6551 but hey atleast in the gameverse (desptie alt.timeline or SAO spinoff verse) , Reki Kawahara did feel bad killing off Eugeo if I remember right in the novels before adapted in anime [and took awhile to return to this comment]
I’m pretty sure this scene just represents how much Eugeo is important to Kirito. Like Eugeo is like family and a brother to Kirito. It like really hit the feels when he said to Eugeo he was scared to lose him during the fight with Quinella. x’DD Knowing the canon story and then looking at this scene. Canon Kirito is like mourning so much with Eugeo’s death.
@Maryo274 Why? He's the worst case of Spotlight Stealing Squad/Canon Sue I've ever seen. Best (or perhaps worst) exemplified by when Kirito is on the brink of death, it's Eugeo who calls him back. Not Asuna, not Sugu, not Sinon, all of whom indisputably have a deeper and more longstanding connection to Kirito than Eugeo could ever dream of. No, it's the waste of space who by his own admission would have been Kirito's ENEMY had he lived. Eugeo should never have existed.
@@1Tekkaman lol funny enough, Eugeo was the one died protecting and saving Kirito and it was also because of Eugeo's death that Kirito fell into a coma. They spent at least 10 years childhood and then 2 and a half year grown up together, see? That's even longer than the time Kirito with Asuna. It's because Eugeo that Kirito refused to wake up, so of course he is the one to wake Kirito up. You just hate seeing your waifu lost screentime bcs Eugeo was too good lol
@@yoiruw44-fincholeander44 This just underscores my Spotlight Stealing Squad issue. All the characters I cited are integral to the SAO mythos. Eugeo (who is far from a good character) is not. He should never have existed.
@@1Tekkaman but Kirito stated himself that because Eugeo is like around the same age as him, they both easily connected and understood each other forming a brotherly like relationship. Eugeo was the brother Kirito wish he had that made Kirito so excited thinking after the cathedral, he hopes to introduce Eugeo to the whole gang and maybe help Eugeo grow as a person to surpass and become stronger than Kirito would ever be.
@@user-oq4oi1kr1b Ah, yes, the ridiculous in-universe hyping of that waste of space. Generally speaking I have a lot of respect for Kawahara Reki as a writer, but Alicization as a whole is a mess, and Eugeo is without question among the biggest problems.
