I was flying along the south shore (Coney Island & Rockaway) in my Mooney M20J 201 and got in touch with Kennedy Tower. They did something they pretty much never do, they offered me to transition at 1000ft rather than 500. Getting closer to the airport, I realized it is not busy. So unusual for John F Kennedy International airport! No arrivals and nobody short of the runway for departures, so I decided to request a low approach. Tower said the only thing they could let me do is a full-stop taxi-back. Things have been getting busier here lately. Newark was a continuous conga line. So, I realized this might be the last chance for this, so I went for it. Flew a left hand pattern to land on 31L, the longest runway on the east coast! By the time I was on final, there were several jets holding for my arrival. What an incredible experience.
Today, I learned of the passing of Bob Belville on the same day as my flight. So I dedicate this video to his memory. What a great guy.
