Thanks for this great tutorial. As a recent Open Water certified diver, information like this fills in some of the gaps left in the training I received and keep the mind on diving during my off season.
@@leopoldbloom4835 What happens when you are in a swift current? Or you need to signal to the boat where you are after being swept off a dive site. I shoot my DSMB from near my bottom depth. Which is why I recommend you carry the largest spool possible, and for deeper dives reels become the requirement.
Like that you say you can use them for lots of different things. My son and his buddy used a spool to keep them together earlier this year when diving Old Harry's Rocks in Swanage. Their dive boat missed them surfacing, and there DSMBs/whistles, and they were carried off on the current around 4 miles from the start point of the dive. They used one of their reels/lines to keep them together to make it easier to find them and stop them getting separated. They were picked up after about an hour drifting on the surface.
It depends on how you are diving. I do a lot of cold water diving here in the uk. With dry gloves and under gloves on the bigger flared edges and the large hole in the middle make the world of difference in ease of use compared to a little plastic one with a dimple in the middle. If your doing diving without gloves then it probably doesn’t matter what you have as you can feel what your doing a lot easier with naked hands. Hope this helps.
