As a mathematician who has studied this topic recently it always amazes me how many men who clearly do not understand the topic will try and make "educated" critiques of this information. I get your egos are fragile, but understand that math does not care if your feelings are hurt.
I played softball back in the 1950s. My dad was a pitcher. He was so fast, it would hurt you. The ball would come in so hard. Many could not catch for him playing in the leagues.
What I disagree in is first I don't have anything against softball but they said they have a small infield but that means in baseball it's harder to get on base and score a run think about it for a minute
Yes, different games. Baseball is dominated by power hits. Softball is dominated by running speed and smart hits putting defenders off-balance. Obviously the game that the home team plays is the same as the one that the visitor plays; saying either sport is "harder" is just silly. But they are different games, and you can recognize the speed and reaction times necessary to play one well while also recognizing the sheer strength needed to play the other well.
Amberly Jolly mm no. Baseball pitches are much more abundant and your arm starts to wear down. Also baseball has at least 5 arm slots while softball has 1. Take that *girls*
you have to give it to softball players tho about reacting to the balls fast and getting them out tho but it's sad how they have 60 foot bases and there like 20 years old move them back to like mlb bases and i'm 14 using mlb bases this is sad let's make this even softball is not the hardest sport
softballs are heavier than baseballs so the shorter bases make up for the speed of the ball shortening, also girls are generally smaller than guys so we can’t take as large of strides or run as fast
In what world are exit velocities in softball anywhere close to 100mph? They are in the low 70s at best. Major League Baseball players have average exit velos of in the 90s and can get up in the 110s.
Also, these two arguments are contradictory. The reason softball is easier to hit is precisely because it is so hard to get the ball to first in time. You don’t have to hit it hard as consistently to get on base. Just look at the batting averages and OBP of softball vs baseball
Maybe because we are not biased towards trying to prove that a sport thats only played by our gender is better than the other. Try and hit a 80 mph fastball sometime... I know for a fact i can hit 60 mph softball pitches, but i struggle with anything over 80 in baseball. Theres just no comparison. All of you can keep acting like athletically you are on the same level as guys but you are not. Its not being sexist its being realistic. Girls are great at a bunch of things, far better than guys at a TON of things. But sports isnt one of them.
+MexicanOnGames you are dumb baseball pitchers pitch from like what 60 feet a softball pitcher pitches from 48 feet and so the softball pitch would be faster than a baseball pitch. Also it is scientifically proven that softball players have less time to react and it is harder to hit a softball. Also girls are good athletes at some things and boys are better at them and the other way around it all depends on who is playing what sport and how good they are at that sport
Not biased? I believe by defending Baseball you are being biased. I don't think you actually watched the video because it would then explain the amount of time softball players have to hit a ball compared to baseball. Maybe you should go back and watch the video then come back here, hopefully more informed. And until you get into the box with someone like Monica Abbot, like I have, I don't think you should say there is any comparison. Thanks for your uninformed opinion @MexicanOnGames
well if I throw an orange at the wall 10m away in .5 seconds , then an apple at the floor 6m away in .3 seconds. both the wall and the floor react in the same time. these sports similar but, different. Both take skills a lot of people here probably don't have but there no point in arguing. Also to be honest this is sport science....
DomPlays99 there's more supplied power on a 90+ mph pitch so the exit speed would be faster. and softballs aren't the same as baseballs, they don't travel as far
DomPlays99 but keep in mind, there's still less exit power on a softball (even if the reaction time is the same) and a softball doesn't move the same as a baseball. It's much lighter and doesn't take off with the same speed so it's not going as far
DomPlays99 I'm sure it could be done, but it takes practice. Nobody can just come out and succeed in a different sport. The point is they're two different sports and different in many different ways
Well that's an unfair comparison. Softball players play on a smaller diamond. I'm not saying those ladies aren't talented, I'm just saying. Put them on a baseball diamond and see if they do half the shit while still playing softball. I don't think you'll be making a comparison.
+Aidan Cooper First off, a baseball pitch is totally different from a softball pitch, the whole entire motion is different. Secondly, you've never played softball before in your life. Thirdly, since a softball pitcher is way closer than baseball pitcher, a batter has way less reaction time to actually hit the ball. So, no you probably wouldn't make a good softball player.
+nelliegirl1403 everything is close because if they played a distance with baseball it would be way different. Or if baseball player would play at a distance of softball. Again, would be WAYYY different. There's a reason girls have a smaller diamond
+Victor Rivera the reason everything is shorter is because of the ball that is used. In a baseball the core is like rubber so it's easier to hit further making the fields big. While in softball the core is NOT rubber like and so it doesn't travel as far making the fields shorter.
No doubt it’s a hard sport, but all these facts are because the field is smaller right? I mean you play this power on a MLB field and all this doesn’t apply.
Did this guy really say it takes less time for a softball player to get to first than an MLB player to get to first? Well NO SHIT! MLB players have 90 foot bases not 60 obviously it would take less time for a softball player to get to first, this entire sports science is irrelevant.
I'm pretty sure that's exactly what they said. Their playing field is smaller and thus they have less time to react. That was actually pretty much the entire point of the video.
If you can "slap" hit... the game is slower. MLB can play softball... Softball can't play MLB. Sorry... nothing from the girls... but it's not tougher.
This basically makes everything easier for the girls while guys fields make it harder. The slab bunt and hit are stupid we don't do it in baseball so don't do it in softball
Two questions. How do guy's fields make it more difficult? And why shouldn't batters be able to slap hit, just because baseball players don't? Though similar, they are different sports that yield different strategies.
The slap (not "slab") hit is, as described in the video, a good way for a left-handed batter to overcome resting inertia and shave seconds off her run to first *in exchange for* power of the hit (slap hitters are almost never going to see a homerun, even "power slappers"; most slap hits are infield plays). The *drag bunt* is also a motion play, and likewise gives the bunter momentum towards first while making it significantly harder to execute a proper bunt. It is not a cheat in any way; it just opens up a new set of strategies for getting on base, and for defenders defending against it.
It's about the reaction time. The softball is thrown at a shorter distance, with more mass. I'm sorry but science will jusr disprove your ideas everytime
your a dumb ass i hope you know that ethan the math and the science shows baseball is easier just me i watch it all the time baseball is a joke compared to the sport of softball just be quiet and hope no girl comes after you for thinking all males sports are harder than girls sports bc trust me softball 100 times harder
