ivan d ... For sports bikes, the regular go to is the Kawasaki Ninja (300 or 400), reliable and affordable, and you can get it used easily. If you want cruisers, you can’t go wrong with the Honda Rebel (500, the 300 is only good if you’ll only drive in the city), and the Kawasaki Vulcan S. Do your research and go to dealerships so you can sit on them and see which one is the most comfortable for you. If looking to get one used, shop around and try them out before pulling the trigger. Spend time watching videos to learn as much (yammie noob is great, fortnine is awesome, mcrider is like getting free training, revzilla has great info on gear - and please get gear, your brain is too valuable man). Good luck and enjoy the process! Be safe!

I have to agree. For 20+ years I rode Harleys, but back in 2002 I was introduced to sport tourers. which was a huge eye opener and life changer. It’s like comparing apples to oranges. I have a kawasaki Vulcan 1700 and I love it. I also have a kz1100 and have ridden many sport bikes. Sport bikes are awesome but so are cruisers. I would love to get a sport bike and someday (hopefully soon) I will. But it would be for around town or for shorter rides. My Vulcan will always be my go to for long rides because with cruise control and how comfortable it is. I can kick my legs up and ride all day very comfortably. All bikes are awesome and I wish I could every kind of bike. Or atleast an adv, sportbike, and my Vulcan. I made a deal with my Vulcan once when I was in Kentucky that if it got me out of there I’d never sell it.

The irony when the big four ALL build more dirt bikes and cruisers than any sport bike
@primogaming69
@primogaming69 5 лет назад
cos dirt bikes are way cheaper. law of supply and demand. 90% of earth's population is way beyond the "POOR CATEGORY". who can only afford a couple of 200cc-400cc dirtbikes, naked bikes, cruisers etc etc etc. you really can't consider a 400cc "SPORTBIKE-LOOK" as a sport bike. have you seen a ferrari look alike that runs like a prius? course not. so in retrospect, 900++++ bikes are the ones considered as sports bike which MAJORITY of humans on earth CAN"T AFFORD thus leading to a conclusion why bike companies create more cheaper set of bikes than SPORTS BIKES. it's a waste of investment if they mass produce the so-called-SPORTSBIKE. by the way, it's a very simple logic.

@Texarmageddon 5 лет назад
Wrong the sportbike category is larger than you thank. Had you said supersport category sure... You have the following: Standard Naked Sport touring Cafe racers Put those four classes together and cruiser market and dirtbikes are about the same. Secondly, the big four primarily moves sportbikes more than cruisers. Why? The 250-650cc bikes move more than the big engine cruisers from the big four... hence why none of their cruisers haven’t seen any major updates throughout the big four

1: Performance Holding it against cruisers that they're trying to be cruisers rather than race bikes is just obnoxious. They are two different styles of motorcycles built for two different purposes. This is basically just you stating "Sport bikes are better than cruisers because sport bikes are sport bikes not cruisers."; you're basically just restating the concept "sport bikes vs cruisers" and somehow counting that against cruisers. 2: Reliability I wouldn't say cruisers are universally or inherently less reliable than sport bikes. A well made cruiser will be infinitely more reliable than a poorly made sport bike and vice versa. Harley's evolution engine, as an example, is like a Toyota Carola in the sense that so long as you change the oil and other fluids it will just keep on going without issue. 3: Aesthetics First off, this is very subjective. Secondly, I'm willing to bet if you asked the majority of people who are not into motorcycles which motorcycle looks better, a generic sport bike or a generic chromed out cruiser, that the majority of non-motorcycle-people would say the cruiser looks better. Sport bikes look really cool and all, but a lot of what is to be appreciated about their appearance is specific to people who are really into motorcycles. Cruisers, on the other hand, have been baked into popular culture so much that even non-motorcycle-people can appreciate the looks of cruisers. Finally, the "I can take off the plastic parts to get a different loot, therefore there is more possibility for changing the appearance of my sport bike more than your cruiser!" is flat out wrong. You have significantly more options to change the appearance of a Harley than you do with any sport bike. 4: Practicality Cruisers win in practicality hands down; it's not even a competition. Doing will on the track, or going to it in the first place for that matter, is not practical. Both a sport bike and a cruiser will get you from point A to point B, but not being able to go more than an hour or so without riding starting to become uncomfortable/painful makes sport bikes less practical than a cruiser where that's not a problem. That, and there are a million and one different storage options that can be added to a cruiser so that you're not limited to what you can bring in your pockets and in a backpack like on a sports bike. 5: Variety in Engine sounds. To suggest that the different variety of sport bike sounds is superior to a v-twin's rumble is subjective. Also, this is another case where I think the majority of non-motorcycle people-would appreciate the cruiser more than a sport bike as they (cruisers) have already been baked into popular culture.

For me being into bikes is like being at a concert where half the people hate the opening act and the other hate the headliner. Is it an ego thing? If you go distance, there is a lot to be said for a cruiser. I had a Vulcan for a few years, threw 20k on it before I just didn’t have time to keep up with the maintenance (still regret getting rid of it honestly, I never felt cooler on two wheels). That said, if you ride cold weather on a cruiser, that cold with goes right into your thighs, bringing your core down faster than your popularity after telling a dead baby joke at a wedding. I ditched the windshield as being a bit taller, it all went directly into my face and I can say maintaining chrome is a complete pain in the ass. There is a certain pleasure one can take in knowing most of your cruiser can be worked on by you as it usually won’t require the high-tech stuff of a sport bike and the exhaust sounds can be altered with aftermarket parts. That said, cruisers are fun, you feel cool, my Vulcan had the motor from the Ninja of the same year, and aside from being cold-blooded (carbureted bikes tend to be so), it was one of my favorite ‘workhorses’ of a motorcycle.

Cruisers are SLOW AF, Significantly heavier so tire performance suffers since they usually use a hard rubber compound, the brakes, suspension, and cornering angles are also inferior. They do win in comfort factor.

No Name In what way to they “smoke” street bikes? Sure you will beat me if I’m on a 300cc bike but pretty much anything 600cc over In the standard to super sport category and you aren’t winning in acceleration, braking, or cornering. The triumph R3 is over 2 liters and weighs 797lbs. I’ve only looked at a few cruiser specs but this one says 200hp which is pretty high for that type of bike. Although weight really creates a problem.

Why do I love motorcycles and motorcycling? My first memories of motorcycles are from when I was about nine years old. I lived in the country in Montana where there was naturally a lot of opportunity for good riding fun to be had. A family near us had a motorcycle for each of their four or five children ranging in age. This made for a variety of rides and riding styles. Bicycles had sparked my interest at a young age as it does many I believe because the physical challenges of balance and coordination fueled by the exhilaration of speed combined with the satisfaction of rapid travel to a destination. As a young boy bicycles and motorcycles were 5e closest things I could get to being able to fly, and I loved it. Preferences of style of bikes, riding terrain and riding habits have changed in my 56 years mostly out of the realization that I AM mortal, I don’t Ike pain, injury or the healing process. I still enjoy much of the same things about riding but I have attenuated my glee with the knowledge that I’m lucky to be alive and even breathing the air as I ride makes me happy for the day. Sport v. Cruiser motorcycles: I like all things motored. What I wanted to do when I was in my twenties is different than what I want to do now. I wouldn’t want to have to choose one, but since I have to right now I have a Triumph T100. What would I get if I had money? One of each, .. +1

I've owned both for years and still currently own both. Personally, sportbikes seem far safer to me. I feel much safer on my CBR100 than I do on any cruiser. Five reasons sports bikes are the worst bikes. 1. Insurance. A man or woman should know their limitations. 2. The handling sucks on anything but perfect roads. 3. Power. Most will never be able to utilize the power of anything over 600cc. 4. Tickets. “Officer, I was only in first.” “Yea, but I clocked you at a hundred.” 5. Riding position. Your wrists will eventually become arthritic. At 20 to 30 you won’t notice a thing, wait until you are 60. There are more, but it is all good.

As a Noobinite I'm disappointed in your list. Like many of your faithful followers I have a few ponies in the stable, but unlike mein fuhrer noob I apparently have a wider selection. I put forward for your yamsideration...the Pacific Coast Highway. A beautiful stretch of highway that runs hip hugging down the country like the seam of an Italian dress on young (but leagle) creature with the curves to make the seam almost pop. I would never suggest that I know what El Yamsidente would find fun on that stretch of road...but I know what I like. If Noobster likes racing through the gears faster then through the turns, well I understand that. I too enjoy the G' s pulling me one way then quickly the other, my feet and hands moving indepently as I balance gear, throttle brake, and clutch. My head constantly turned from left to right as I calculate what the next turn needs and how I will get it done. But Master Yam...there is another way! Gliding along the road, your bike in a gentle float as the road slowly passes under you. Shifting only between the top 2 gears not hearing the high screech of an I4 as the scenery blurs by but hearing the guttural growl as your bike sneaks up to each curve like a predator ready to strike. Your head moving to enjoy the view, not to calculate the next turn. Your hands and feet moving only when nessary as the only G you feel is what is always there. Yamghanistan can't you see that cruisers aren't the pray of sport bikes, and sport bikes aren't the pray of crusiers. We are both predators and cars and the road are the pray. You might look at the cruiser as a dinosaur who's day has passed, but I look at it as an evolved road eating machine that nature has deemed it worthy to remain. I hope the illustrious Yammy Noob reads this and ponders on the words humbly placed before him.
