Love the video! I’m a 19 year old, freshman in college and I’m beyond motivated to work in an NFL front office and do whatever it takes. These tips are great. Still deciding whether my key word should be “operations” or “Human Resources”. Gonna have to experience! :)
Plan on doing internships in both realms and seeing first hand what you like best! Sometimes your career path chooses you as you start taking more in-depth classes, conducting internships and chatting with professors. Get after it! Good luck!
I love that passion. I’m also a freshman in college and have the same dream. But I’m not actually a U.S. citizen which makes it much harder to stay for a job like that in the long term. It overwhelmed me everytime I did my research on those opportunities.
Great video! Lately I’ve been struggling with finding a purpose and career interest since my interests change so much, but what i found was the one thing that hasn’t changed is my interest in sports. I have a somewhat small background in video production so im leaning towards sports broadcasting at the moment. However sometimes I feel like i lack some of the skills and I undersell my potential. I am set to graduate with a history degree this year and i sometimes wish i would have chosen a different degree like marketing or communications. I also dont know how to make traveling for internships work out if i was to land one. Overall though this video helped me a lot in regard to seeing what skills are needed.
I’m definitely in love with this video and I can’t stop rewatching it. I need to send this to my friends who are doing sports studies and sports science asap this video is really helpful thanks a lot ❤
I'm a sophomore in college and majoring in sports marketing and I love it so far, the classes are actually interesting and engaging. my dream is to work for the NFL but it is not the only place that I am thinking about working in. this video helped a lot and I am happy to see that their are a lot of marketing Job opportunities available.
So glad I came across this. My jaw dropped when I listened to your initial career path. I studied biology and kinesiology at Penn State, and now I’m in my final year of physical therapy school. I don’t regret learning what I’ve learned, but I regret going through college just “checking off the boxes” like you said, and not really finding out what I WANT to do. I’m now at a point where I’m learning that I can’t really see myself working in PT for a lifetime career, which is why I’m on this page now. Hopefully when the time is right, I have the tips and knowledge to transition into the field I really want to be in. Thank you!
This video was amazing from beginning to end, I initially found this video because I looked up "How can I get into the sports industry" and I am so happy I did. I feel this video just showed me all the techniques I should start working on now in order to pursue my dream of one day working in the NFL. Like the video was discussing, I am still quite unsure where I would fit into the NFL world but I am quite certain it is where I belong because I love it. I am a second year marketing major at the University of Central Florida and feel that having a marketing degree would be a great way to get me in the door. I will definitely be using your website to job search in the future after my degree, but until then I will start working on common skills that the types of job I want require in order to be a stand out applicant. You really opened my eyes to the possibilities that could be to come as lond as I work hard and strive for them, and for that I thank you.
This channel is awesome. I’ve worked in venue operations for 8 years for multiple NHL teams, an NBA team, and 2 CFL teams. But one day I want to work in operations on the team side.
This is beyond amazing. I’m currently in graduate school, majoring in a MBA in Sports Management. The current program I’m in is actually a collaboration between my university (FIU) and Real Madrid graduate school. So I would be receiving two degrees god willingly. I actually was looking for help in gaining experience so I could build up my resume while I study since I really have none. So thank you so much for this! It’s exactly what I needed!
This video couldnt come at a crucial time for me in a career change. I always loved sports and i want to get into an industry that I want to be excited about. Thank you for giving great tips!
This is great!!!! My students can't see past U.S.-based pro sports and think that GM is the only way in. I appreciate the message of how big and broad our industry is.
Great video! I wish this would be taught at the university. I am trying to connect to your website from Amsterdam, but for some reason it shows that the service in unavailable.
Thanks for the note. Unfortunately, our website is only accessible in the US. You may try and use a VPN, but that's about the only solution for your location.
Thank you so much for this amazing video. On the way of searching for new ideas to align my IT career in sports industry, this video has positively boosted my hope. As I am an IT officer and a passionate individual in sports, why not work in technology in sports industry. Your tips and advise on this would really be a big value to me.
I loved the video. You really instructed me well on how to stand out from the crowd by improving your skill set. I’m currently 18 , freshman in college and studying bachelor degree in commerce right now. I’m really interested in the sports industry and want to really find which job/career opportunity would fit my personality. Currently in the process of sending out my cv to football academies and other institutions hoping to get experience in the field. Would love to hear your advice as it would help me reach my full potential!
Great advice!! I'm expecting people come to me to offer me something as you said and I should be more actively involved searching for my dreamed job. Thanks!
Currently in the fitness industry and want to more into the sports industry Would love to work for a football team in the front office or the athletic department in college
Love your style of presentation. Would you also recommend working in sport to people that are motivated by money as well as looking for job satisfaction?
first of all thank you so much for this video. it has been such a big help for me. the way you started this video, where i know i wawnt to be in sports but i never specified it. i was always confused. but after watching this, i wrote down all these fields in sports, crossed the one i am not passionate about and have come to 2-3 career fields in sports i can be in. i have done my under graduation in business management but i really want to take up a coaching role ahead in my life. there lies my passion. can you guide me, how to start my career in it coming from a management background.please, alsao thank you again for this video
Hello Brian! I just saw this video and just got the chance to hear about your amazing channel now. This has truly helped and motivated me a lot. I am currently a junior at university and I am looking for an internship in sports. However, I live in Europe. And it seems to me that at times there are more internship opportunities in the field in the US than in Europe. So I was wondering if you have any tips or any general advice for this internship process in Europe. Thank you very much.
Wonderful video. I have been working off and on in sports mostly AD, bug and PA work (about the last 4 yrs). I do have a quick question I want to do this full time. Any suggestions on the best crew companies to sign up with ?
Like any business, sports organizations would have an HR (I am assuming you are talking Human Resources?) staff. It's not an area we've explored a lot because there isn't really sport-specific knowledge required for the role.
I love sports and would love nothing more to work in that industry but I feel like If ur not a former college athlete or even pro athlete that can be a huge disadvantage
Hi, I'm Italian I noticed that your site is not available from my country.. do you know if there are other sites like yours or how can I resolve? thank you!
Dear sir, I recently participated in powerlifting in USA in Texas, I liked it very much, it has helped the players a lot, sir, please help me, can I come to USA or play there, please help
The advice can be applied wherever, but our familiarity is in the American sports realm. Unfortunately, our site doesn't work outside the US without a VPN.
Thank you for this video! I think I've learn what to do know in terms of finding what I did to do in order to chase my dream of being involved with an NHL team. The issue is I don't know what degree I should get in order to do that. I want to talk with players and coaches, interview them, ask them what worked today and what didn't, what needs to be done in order to get better. I want to be at every game having fun just like normal, but I want to get a career out of it. Nothing make me more happy to go to hockey games and have that as a job. Anyone have any advice or degrees that could guide me in that direction? i'd greatly appreciate it. I don't have much time left school starts in August.
thank you for making videos like this. it makes the idea of actually working in this industry seem possible and not so far fetched. just wondering if you need a general degree in a field or if you can simply look at jobs and learn the required skills to get these types of jobs?
Skills that line up with industry/job demands are most important. A specific degree can help toward that goal, but it isn't the only way. Sports connected internships really help if you go the general degree route, i.e. having something sports related on your resume
Hi I'm a 22 year old from the uk graduated in 2020 and I am looking to work in sports but would love to work in USA. Can I find any guidance on the WorkinSports page in terms of applying from overseas?
I m pharmacist but i want to go in sport industry as sport industy is my passion. ..what should i do? I m thinking to study msc in sport managment. ..is it ok ?? Please advice.. thanks
Hi Brian, I just discovered this channel. It is fantastic! My daughter will be a sophomore in high school in a couple of months, is adept at math, and would like to apply it in a career in sports (somehow). Would you apply the same concepts in the this video to the high-school level? She's a very good softball player and our travel team is requiring the players to start compiling a list of the colleges they want to go to. So we're starting to explore colleges where she can play AND has a good degree program. Thanks for any and all advice!
Hey, Keith! Look in Sacred Heart Uni in Fairfield, CT. I had a classmate who went to SHU for softball and was brilliant at it. Academic offerings are great too. Just thought I'd share :)
Yeah! Congrats to your daughter, getting career clarity at that early of a phase is awesome [I didn't figure it out until I was a junior in college]. Yes, these concepts apply wherever you are in life. And for the record, I'm doing the same thing right now with my daughter -- looking for sports opportunities and good education!
I’m currently in my senior year and I’m in the military looking to get out and pursue a sports management career looking more along the lines of operations or event management. Would they look at me as over qualified if I try to get an entry level position?
Draw the lines between your experience and their needs -- just tell a good story, help them see how you would fit and how you could positively impact their world!
Hello! I just wanted to say thank you for making these videos people such as myself really appreciate this as it definitely helps us with what we want to do with our career paths in sports. I also have a question regarding your experience in the industry. You mentioned earlier in the video that you enjoyed espn, story telling, and highlights and that sounds like something I am pretty interested in. I was wondering if you could contact me and give me more insight as to what job opportunities lie in that field and how your career has been in the field. Thank you once again!
Glad you liked the video Keith - I don't do a lot of one on one consulting, but I would tell you listen to our Work in Sports podcast we have over 390 episodes covering all aspects of the sports industry!
