Homer Harrison (b. 1953 - ), 65, became a Sportsman Park Boy (now Jesse Owens Park) while at Manhattan Place Elementary among 4th, 5th and 6th graders and it was the only generation that had membership into the "Park Boys" group.
The Sportsman Park Boys started around 1964 when Homer was 11 years old.

I was waiting for him to mention the guy tookie mentioned in his book. In a chapter him and raymond fought an "andre the giant sized character named stanley". And sure enough at 6:49 he mentions someone named "tall stan"

I believe that it was and still is an upper middle class of African American Neighborhoods were people took good care of their property, close to Hawthorne and not to far from Washington High School.

My grandfather used to take me to get my haircut at that barbershop on Western just before Century. And my grandma lived on Ruthelen and Century in the late 80s and early 90s.

Sportsman park is located in South West Los Angeles currently called Westpark Terrace of L.A. city. M.L.K. & Central Ave is the Historic South Central Area of L.A. City.

The fact remaining is that Jesse Owens park (formally known as Sportsman Park) is located in South West Los Angeles in the newly named L.A. city district of West Park Terrace. It borders the city of Inglewood to the West, Athens/Westmont (Unincorporated area of South L.A.) to the south, west, and east borders. I know L.A. history, jurisdictions, geography, etc, etc....

Most of the OG's from the 60s and 70s migrated from the south as small children with their family, so the OG's accent is going to be heavily influenced by their parent's/family's accent.

Me & my Cousin’s used to go to Jessie Owens Swim Stadium Back in the 1980’s to Swim During the Summertime,but be Prepared to get hit up,by some Brother’s from 90 lol The Dallas Cowboy’s owner Jerry Jones used to go Swim @ Sportsman Park Same Place & fight’s would Break Out,Because These White Boy’s didn’t want Black’s Swimming in the Pool! My Dad told me that after the 1965 LA Riot it was White Flight & Compton Carson Inglewood Lynwood all over night turned Majority Black area’s.Jerry Jones Family Made Mad Money off of Black People moving into Inglewood,by over charging for Rental’s & Home’s in these area’s! Now you see how they got that Money SMDH We been Had!

I would love to know how the older gangs got kicked out the way. The sportsman boys, the avenues, the spades. Was there any resistance? Were the crips just pushing these guys out? Or they just left cause they were outnumbered?

Basically, that whole area is 90 hood now! Many of his good friends later, after the Sportsmen Park Boyz, became KWEZ. Listen to who his friends were, all original West Side Crips.
