Don’t cut it at the mark, sport star has a video on RU-vid about it. The only time they cut it was after they fed it through to get rid of some excess strap

You can make them work if you just use a thumbscrew from a pair UA visor clips. But you run the risk of them coming lose or spinning as they were made specifically for speedflex and axiom helmets
