@@leocruzist People need to stop thinking of Spotify as a revenue source, and think of it more as an advertising tool, you can reach more people and grow an audience, and that's half the battle, most artists make their money from merch and touring anyway, that's the case even with top artists
@@Josh94-09 especially when history has already shown what happens when people have the internet and don't have an option like Spotify. Even if Spotify pays out like shit, it's still more than you get when everyone's pirating.
Youbtube Music is pretty damn good, but I've occasionally visited Spotify and found it's doing well. I think if I frequented it more to give it more data, it might do better. My main issue is the absolute nightmare it would be switching playlists, liked music, etc
@@hunterm9 I use both Spotify and YTMusic, but Spotify is programed in such a way that I don't specifically select a song to play, I just play one of the playlists they've made for me or recommended me and it's great, it's like it knows what I'll like more than anyone I know personally. RU-vid music is something I use to play a specific song, usually when I don't wanna lose the playlist playing on Spotify. Trust me you don't have to switch your RU-vid playlists to Spotify, I didn't and it worked fine, just have to listen to your types of songs for a week and then just play the playlists it makes for you, and when a song you like comes up, heart it and if you don't like the song press that (-) button on the right. And a week later you'll probably be hooked to it's algorithm. I've stopped using Spotify premium yet it's still fine because the playlists are just so good I didn't have to even choose a particular song anymore
I'm less surprised that Spotify is on top, and more surprised that Apple has 60,000,000 users. I literally don't know a single person that uses apple music.
Spotify premium makes me feel like they genuinely care about the end user like at the end of the year there are stats of what your favorite songs are and there are new and cool playlists created all the time like taste breakers which are songs that they think you might like but are different genres of music
Yeah it's good but the problem is , I don't earn money myself so I don't really wanna spend it on services 🤔 like as an indian 10$ is big for me atleast and I don't even earn but I think paid services are better and safer in the long run rn I am surviving on pirated movies/series and MP3 downloaded playlists
@@pokesportxyz5191 The problem with Apple in my opinion is that they sort by artist, not by the sound of individual songs. That's the significant difference.
Pandora is constantly changing their matching algorithm which makes it harder to find music you want to listen to. They also are almost guaranteed not to play a particular song if you make that song your seed.
that 120 per year and only 4166mins per month which is like 70 hrs. which like just about 2 hrs aday and my commute is like 4 hrs alone. So no it wasn't worth it for u.
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley I never said I listen to hrs. of music.... I'm just saying he paid for quite a shitty deal in his perspective. I barely listen to music. on any given day. Books and news articles are my thing. But I'm just saying... With how cheap data is getting specially in the US. You never really need to pay for music just stream it off RU-vid.
Took me 3 years to finally upgrade to the premium service, and it’s safe to say I’m never going back. I never want to hear any of those annoying ads ever again
ChunkyAvocado What if someone is outside and wants to listen to music with their phone? RU-vid isn’t a good option unless you have the best data in the world.
Mike Zerker So you expect people to listen to music with RU-vid and adblocker? If someone was doing it with their computer then it wouldn’t be that bad but if you are anywhere else besides your house then it’s embarrassing.
@@ej8014 That's how I've set my RU-vid and Amazon Kindle app, along with Spotify. If something has a dark mode, I'm using it because it's less glaring (especially as I wear glasses).

That's actually the reason I subbed just the other day, all my friends were doing the recap of theirs and I wanted to know what mine would look like, so I decided to try it for a few months and see if I use it.
I subbed back in 2017 when I almost killed my computer from pirating 😂 no more of that haha this year's recap my top artist of the Year was Drake and my top Artist of the Decade was Circa Survive

As a small music creator myself I have to admit that Spotify was a game changer for me. I am finally able to quit my job, stay home and create music full time. It truly only happened ones Spotify come into play. I'm not sure how it is for other musicians but for me that was a Godsend. P.s. in my household we have two accounts. One if premium and one is free and kinda everybody use both whenever available
Same. My family made the switch to Apple Music, and I despise it. Spotify is way better. Normally I'd be ok about it, but my phone is an Android, so I don't get the special features.
Do you use RU-vid as well for any reason? Because you could just pay $1 extra a month, have access to even more music than on Spotify, and get rid of all ads on RU-vid. Time to break that loyalty, it isn't serving you well.
Not me, they burned that bridge when they made turning off shuffle mode a premium feature, crippling limitations don't make me pay, they just piss me off
@@mwbgaming28 i do understand your point, but apparently - as stated in the video - this model is quite effective *because* it's quite obnoxious and you can get a taste of their product before getting the whole thing. i really don't see a better model for them, do you? (i'm honestly just curious if there would be something they could do which would be better in your opinion)
@@datachu actually, i do pay for netflix. but tbh at least on my country, it's not that good. netflix has been cancelling lots of shows i watched, and a number of their current shows are bad or not as good. also, lots of shows they license from other networks are often delayed (they usually have to wait for the whole season of a show to air on tv before putting on the platform, and this can take months, so it's usually a one-year delay, which is a bummer). i hope disney+ will be better, and i'm considering changing when it launches in my country (it's not in my country yet, and i hope they have lots of shows and films just like in the us and europe - i'll be disappointed if disney+'s content is limited). but tbh the only subscription i don't see myself ever unsubscribing to (if the service doesn't change) is spotify. it's just an essential service for me. if i had to give up all my subscriptions for streaming services except one, i'd keep spotify in a heartbeat. however, spotify has made some changes to the app and service which i don't really like, and i hope they don't keep changing them often, but even considering those changes, it's still the best music streaming service imo
@@amazingcaio4803 if they made the phone app the same as the iPad app (and I don't mean by crippling the iPad version) then I likely would've signed up to premium at some point But if I must think of some crippling limitation, maybe limit the number if songs a user can have in a single playlist, or remove the ability to name playlists, limit background playback to 1hr, increase the number of ads, make dark mode a premium feature (annoying for AMOLED users) they could also allow premium users to save tracks outside the app (THAT alone would convert me instantly) But they got greedy, so I just went back to ripping songs off RU-vid and saving them on my SD card (which I can listen to without internet, and move between devices, which is something that even Spotify premium doesn't allow, at least not permanently anyway)
i love the fact that you can have an almost premium version of spotify on your computer. you can play whatever song you want, skip as many times as you want, etc, but you just get the ads. i'm only a broke teenager, so i use spotify free, but i really, really love it. also, i literally don't know one person that uses apple music lol.
Thats exactly how they caught me into the premium membership, i tried the three months of premium for just 5 Egyptian pounds and thats about 0.3 dollars and after it ended i couldn't go back and from then i have been paying 50 Egyptian pounds every month for the premium membership and thats about 3 dollars and its nice that they brought the price down for Egypt to match our economics
They do that here in Colombia, as well. The monthly membership costs 15.000 COP, which is about $5. Pretty good compared to a lot of other services here.
Other than personalised playlists, i think one big factor would be how spotify came up with unique code to share music, the aesthetic user interface and genre specific playlists like top hits in your country for pop music etc
"Name any differences between Spotify and Apple Music" Spotify has a better audio codec at a higher bit rate Spotify works well on non Apple phones. Spotify has a functional website for streaming. And a functional desktop app. Spotify has a more in-depth feature set. Spotify has a more in-depth "for artists" App/Website. (although consumers don't really care about this) Spotify (in my opinion) has a more pleasing UI.
Couldnt say it better myself man. (in case apple is looking at these comments to copy spotify, hey apple, you can emulate, but you cant do what spotify does without looking goofy) Spotify is absolutely better hands down. when im with friends who use apple music, i always find it so bad. like youre in itunes previewing songs. It just is bad. Also apple, even if u get just as good, you will never be the original
I love Spotify as a streaming platform. The only downside with Spotify is that they don’t pay out artists enough. It’s a fraction of a penny per stream. If they follow Apple Music and pay out a penny per stream I would be one happy camper
Funny how most artists who have a problem with payout are famous, rich/millionaire ones. You don't see 60K monthly listener people complaining about payout, because they only have that reach because of Spotify. They would never get even 600 monthly listeners if they started solely on Apple Music.
Another interesting strategy was the introduction of their family plan. Once someone invite family members, it becomes very unlikely that the account owner will quit the subscription due to the interpersonal cohesion. Well played :)
The recommendation system is much better on spotify and they have few more songs but other than that tidal is better. I just stick with spotify because its cheaper
I listen to Spotify because it’s more global. More specifically, it’s easier for me to listen to and find Japanese music on Spotify compared to Apple Music. The downside is that there’a some songs that are only on Apple Music and some songs I can’t find anywhere at all. But I’ll definitely stick with Spotify
Well apple music had to overcome iTunes. They should have converted iTunes to include a spotify service. Such a catchier name than ApPlE mUsIc. Also I love how the creator of spotify was so good at technology, that he tried the software and computer courses at college, and was like (Nah, I don't need this.)
Apple is in the process of dropping all the "i" from its services and only keeping them in their hardware. They're taking the google approach and want "apple" in the name of as many things as possible.
Almost 1 Million subscribers! Man i remember coming across your video when searching Kmart because they were closing... Then watched the Blockbuster vid. I think you had less than 100K at the time
Yes, for real. For Desktop: Open Spotify via your browser (not the app) and login. Go to your account (click your profile picture) and you should see the Recover Playlists tab on the left side. For Android/iOS: The exact same process but after you go to your account, switch to Desktop Site in your browser options. You can do a quick research about it if you struggle.
I’ve been a Spotify premium member for 6 years now, and I’ll never leave. Being an Apple fanboy, I tried out Apple Music all while still paying for Spotify, and there was no comparison. Spotify’s algorithm is superior and makes better playlists.
I agree. Apple Music still has this itunes feel to it. itunes hasn't been good (for me) since 2002/2003. Spotify is so much closer to winamp in that it has a dark theme out of the box. Apple Music is too bright. Spotify just feels fun and Apple Music feels like a job.
Mad Jojo true and I realized that after I left my comment. It doesn’t really change my opinion though. That doesn’t mean I won’t give Apple Music another shot down the road.
I came here to see someone mention Pandora. I actually prefer pandora over Spotify. I want to to like Spotify, but when it comes to the free mobile app. Pandora wins hands down. I’m sure Spotify paid subscription is superior, but why pay for something when I’m perfectly happy win a free alternative 🤷♀️
i use spotify premium, partially because it was hard to go back to the free one, but mostly because with premium you can play albums in order instead of having to shuffle it lol, thats a big deal to me.
My favourite find with Apple Music is asking Siri to play “my station”. I accidentally stumbled upon this a few months ago and it’s incredible - it plays songs I forgot I loved, I have a hard time turning it off it’s soooo good! I also like their extensive catalogue, I haven’t run into a wall yet with music I couldn’t find.
Spotify helps me find new bands when recommended. RU-vid has songs that (for current bands) arent necessarily the best of the band or singer, just most recent or trending. Spotify gives a top 5 that helps me judge based on those best of the best.
My Wife and I are on Spotify Premium Family. I've tried them all and like Spotify the best. Plus I'd rather not give Apple and Google any additional money.
when i can add my own personalized playlist of all the music i love onto the home screen of my phone for easy access along with the search in playlist button plus helping me discover new genres ive never even heard of before yea i dont think ill ever use anything else but spotify again
As an independant artist, Spotify is pretty awesome for getting your music out to the world, though each stream is worth about $0.002. The thing that really sucks is that the service you use to get your music on Spotify usually takes a portion as well. My band had 17k streams this year, but we only got $40.
@@ashtxn5735 I rounded both times for the sake of generalization. At least I create shit instead of wasting my time trying to make people feel bad about themselves in a world that's already a shithole.
@@ramirezer2302 It's a shame what has happened to SoundCloud. They went downhill right after they started publishing music from the big record labels because, for some reason, they now wanted to become like Spotify even though the entire reason they became popular to begin with was that they were a platform for bedroom producers/indie musicians but now they also have to pay for the rights to the music from those record labels and consequently need to come up with a way to make up for that. They should've stuck with what they were: a platform for amateur artists to upload stuff to and share. Maybe adding something like Twitch did with a way to directly support the artists and a subscription model similar to Prime for its users, and something else for the producers. Were they smart they would've made mutually-beneficial deals with the pro-audio software/hardware companies and attempted to advertise and push those products to the producers at a discount.
the only time i haven’t chosen apple over other companies is for spotify because it’s such a well made, high quality app, it’s easy to use and compatible with all of my devices i love it
I love spotify premium. I'm lucky enough to be apart of my family's 'family plan' but I agree I cannot go back to the free version. Spotify literally has nearly every song I could ever want to listen to and it's perfect for car rides and working on art.
I have free Spotify and I'm happy with it. My playlists suit my needs perfectly and the 30 minutes add free allow me to get through my car rides just fine so I feel like I have no need for premium.
Mike- I wanted to pop in and say that the recommendation feature of Spotify is OUTSTANDING. Most of the new artists I discovered in the past few years were all thanks to Spotify "Discover Weekly". That feature alone is worth the price.
I’ve had Spotify since around 2010. Started with the free version but upgraded to premium some years after that when the conditions for the free version changed. I guess I picked Spotify because I’m Swedish, it was the first music streaming service I heard of. And my reason for sticking with it is probably, mostly loyalty but I’ve also never been dissatisfied with it as an app. I love the customized playlists!
Spotify is great. However, I think the record labels are going to start pulling a Disney+ and withdraw their music for their own streaming services. Imagine paying $9 per month for the "big four" record label streaming services, and $9 per month for the other music on Spotify. It'll be $45 per month. I'm stocking up on CDs while they are the cheapest they have ever been. Spotify will get bigger and bigger and five years from now, it's going to have the same issues that Netflix has right now. Wait and see.
That's impossible mainly because record labels are greedy it's much better to have 14 music streaming platforms paying you and having access to literally all of america through spotify and apple music amd the global market through spotify instead of partnering with one side plus spotify is much bigger than netflix
@@mateuszzimon8216 that just furthers proofs my point, they make much more revenue by getting 14 streaming platforms paying that fee so why just loose all that money by making it exclusive?
I use paid Spotify. i used to have the paid pandora back in the day, and while it was much cheaper, the library was very limited. It was just radio instead of music on demand. i tried out google play music when it came out, but the interface was kinda meh, and Spotify was "dark mode" before dark mode was a thing.
1. the socal aspect. Being able to see what my friends listen to and their playlists I really cool 2. The playlists/ algorithm recommended songs. 3. "Community events" like the end of year playlists. Extra. Not something I do but a cool recommendation, add podcast to playlists for a good mix of entertainment. I generally like long podcast (2+hrs) so it doesn't work for me lol
I've had Iheartradio for years and never thought of trying out spotify. I tried it a couple weeks ago and I love it! Much better than I heart radio because the screen layout is in dark mode and it's much easier to understand. The only thing is the ads and that there's no AM or FM radio. Either way, Spotify is great none the less.
Yeah. I believe the only feature missing in Spotify is live radio. They manage it more as a random assortment of music you like mixed with artists a bit out of your circle.
I've never have signed up for music streaming service. I have tried the Spotify for free for a few months. The ads were annoying, but the music selection was great. I think I'm gonna give Spotify another chance and actually sign up for the premium this time.
Just want to tell you that I listened to a lot of your videos. I like your accent and tone, the conciseness of your video, and the content as well. Thanks!
I use the free Spotify, don't have the funds for a payed music service, and Spotify offers all the music I like, so I just use it on my laptop where you can play any song at anytime
I listen to Spotify at work only and I use the desktop version. I honestly don't mind the ads because if I was listening to the radio, I would be listening to more ads.
I like that Spotify is pretty much platform-independent even though I can't stand their interface for the phone app. That's why I pick it, I wish Soundcloud was a big player as they have some great user generated content that's unique.
the three month one got me, too, no doubt the smartest business decision I've ever seen to give people unlimited free music for three whole months. That specific number, 3, had to be calculated and mulled over for a very long time, I'm sure.
I have had it since 2011. It is cool that you can go back and see playlists I made in highschool. Though every other year I have to purge a few playlists because they do have a limit.
I got one but through my youtube premium subscription? What is this, and today I saw at the store that the price for it was like 75% off. I understand that last part but why are they giving away (expensive) stuff for free? Mass surveillance? Lol idk I hope not, I'm taking it either way 🤷♀️
SoundCloud I use, some are ads to support them and still worth it. It has authors, singers, musicians, DJs, publishers, remixers, tech musicians, Game/TV Shows/Movie OST, and more. It wasn’t like album to wait and the SoundCloud‘s next button does have purpose even free. Even you can make a song and upload it.
I started using spotify around the time I bought an iphone, mostly to try and simplify my phone since I was always a heavy music down loader. I used the student premium plan throughout college and built a lot of good playlists so now I just keep the premium service.
@@slipknotfya, it's Spotify's platform. They should be pressuring artists and record labels to unlock their music for all regions. Or, at least regions where there are international people. What's the point of paying for the premium service if you can't access music from your favourite artists?
cjewelz spotify has something like 40000000 tracks and like 1000000 artists i really don’t think it’s viable for them to hound every one that is region locked, anyway just get a vpn if it means that much
They got me with the student deals. When I got to college, I switched to Spotify because (although Apple Music has the same student price) I get Hulu and other streaming services for free. They also send me information on concert tickets and deals. Actually I have a google home mini shipping to me right now that was completely free just because I’m a premium member of Spotify. Not to mention the playlists and more of an open atmosphere to explore new music. Spotify is just a better made streaming app.
You touched on the fact that it's hard to go back to regular Spotify after doing the free trial but I think one thing that's really smart is that it's 3 months long. If it was just a week or something, it would be a nice week but you wouldn't really get used to it. After 3 months, you're used to how the premium system works and it's what you expect from Spotify going forward. When you suddenly get put back to the unpaid version, it's jarring and horrible so you're compelled to sign up for Premium
