As I walked along the road I saw a silhouette of a bird looking towards the forest and it was badly lit and cannot see the face. I was surprised when it turned around that it was one of the kingfisher species I’m looking for. This one is a male Spotted Wood Kingfisher (back profile) hunting for breakfast (mostly insects, lizard, amphibians, etc) within the dark canopy.
This is my first ever endemic bird species in the Philippines (endemic to Luzon, Catanduanes and Marinduque, Negros and Panay) that we encountered during our short stopover, a very fulfilling and exciting moment for me!
