Spotted Salamander Surprise 

Typically, it's easier to find Spotted Salamanders in early spring when they breed in vernal pools, not the end of May. I was surprised to find this salamander walking across my driveway at this time of year. After photographing it, I gently scooped it up in a handful of leaves to release it in the woods where it belongs.
