Just found this channel. Very nice. I used spray foam 25 years ago in an industrial setting and always wanted to use it in my home. Now it’s common to use in houses. And the technology is way better.

When doing I-beams, try something like a 00 chamber in the fusion gun. It will slow the output, save you excess and help detail the job better.

Yep first day I used a 2 switched to a 00 much better result . I'm just starting out we built a cart with an E20 Graco with 150 ft of hose. Got two PMC Ap3 guns for the same price as one ap 2 Graco I will upgrade down the road but two guns are necessary. And yes I like BASF we don't have the training in BC yet I don't think but have seen contactors with it out here . I'm interested for sure

Q, what type of membrane would you use? And should you aim for a membrane that has a high R-value. Thanks

Nice. I wish we could find a good installer in our area. I had to do most of the install myself. The problem here is the winter isnt cold enough long enough. In order to get an installer out they have to run the truck for just one job. I guess they do not get as many jobs that way. Therefore the price is higher. Then you have the installers that do it here because they can charge a ton of money and do a bare minimum install. Hints marketing like you mentioned. There are remodels here but no one selects sprayfoam. You have no professional, knowledgeably, and affordable sprayfoam contractors here that arnt attached to a huge corpeoration that can afford to pick and choose jobs. Side note, since I did my son's room with a hybrid sprayfoam and rockwool install (outer wall has 2lb foam under 1/2in polyiso sheething and the inner 2x4 wall has r15 rockwool) the room gets pretty much every smell from all the way downstairs in the kitchen stuck in it.

We had no installers where I am until I started. In 2005 if you wanted foam you needed to hire someone that was 6 hours away. So I started Jones and 15 years later here I am. Now we have 10 companies trying to mimic me. Over saturated to say the least.

What kind of sprayer do you use to apply the eco seal for on the framing seams? And for foam I was looking at getting an PMC PHD-2 would the Graco e-30 be a better pick in your opinion?

Hi spray jones thank you for all your videos I’ve watched each one of them fantastic content. I was wondering if closed cell could be considered “rat proofing” on that same not can rats chew through it ? Thank you for videos please post more I enjoy them all
@SprayJones
@SprayJones 2 года назад
Rats will for sure chew through SPF closed cell. Not much stops them except metal, or removing the reason whey they want to get into a place.

We will be building a new home soon and will be using closed cell in an unvented attic. My question is we will have an inactive dormer also. How should I approach this. I was thinking we needed to spray the underside of the roof and walls. Any thoughts? Thank you for your information it has been great.

Spray what needs to be insulated... if it is to outside you spray it, or make a way to seal it off and then spray your blocking.

We are building a rigid steel frame "red iron" home with shop. We plan to use 2" x 8" exterior stud walls directly against the steel purlins supporting the steel sheetmetal walls to leave space to run electrical, plumbing, etc. behind the insulation to allow future access if needed. What would you recommend for insulating this building. I have been considering 3" of closed cell foam on walls and roof with Rockwool or other suitable insulation behind the foam. The goal being to get a good air tight envelope, excellent insulation that would limit thermal bridging as much as possible while still leaving adequate room in the wall space behind the insulation to run electrical, plumbing, etc. Is this even possible and if so, recommended taking into account possible negative consequences/ 2nd, 3rd, and 4th order effects down the road. Looking to do this ONCE and do it proper, correct, and RIGHT. Thanks for your reply and recommendations. New subscriber here, and loving the fantastic information you are making available. 👍

Spray foam is the sole-source insulation. So build the structure to be deep enough for the foam you want to achieve code compliance for your area. Also deep enough to run the electrical and chases for future runs on the warm-side. Pick a good product and great contractor and you will be off to a great start.

At 8:12 you talk about sheeting the truss to close up the area over a shop in old shed. Not sure I understood. If you have created a shop in part of a shed, are you saying to close the area above the shop up to the roof deck and spraying the walls up to the roof deck, including the sheathed trusses? This would give you a conditioned and sealed attic envelope above the shop right if it had a ceiling. If you have a ceiling above the shop, you would use bats or cellulose on the ceiling. (I understand the problem of getting foam back at the eaves and in my case this is all open and not an issue yet. )
@SprayJones
@SprayJones 3 года назад
Half the shop is cold the other half is warm. The divider must also be in the attic and sprayed. That is what is being said.

I have two bathroom fans in my attic space. I'm getting ready to convert the attic to a conditioned space with spray foam on the rafters. Should I vent the fans through the roof or soffit? Or does it not matter?
@SprayJones

I am not a roofer.... but if it was my home I would do soffit.

I'm probably the oddest user of equipment. I've had both Gusmer and Graco equipment. I love the foamcat series and have both a 200 and 400 BUT I would go with a company that is called PolyMac. To know why I would do this you need a little history. Graco wanted to go the next step with their dual component spray equipment and their dual paint sprayer system just wasn't hacking it. Graco purchased Gusmer systems and the result is the reactor systems are the result of that purchse. So why PolyMac or Polyurethane Machinery Corporation? They are located at One Komo Drove which used to be One Gusmer way. PolyMac is in the exact same building as Gusmer was at. People I spoke to are now at PolyMac. I can't prove it but I'm under the impression that the folks that used to be Gusmer waited out their ten year contractual requirement and went right back into business using the money they got from the sale of Gusmer to bring PolyMac into existence. The equipment looks like what Gusmer was about to bring out at the time of sale. It's all off the shelf controllers and doesn't have the computer board the Reactor E series has and is very expensive to replace. P.S. I HATE the air purge Fusion foam guns. If I had to buy Graco I would buy the GAP gun. MUCH easier to work on and tune up. The PolyMac AP-2 which is cheaper is also better gun than anything Graco makes. Wish Graco would bring the foamcat line back. I like them very much. VERY easy to work on.

I have a question when using spray foam in an unvented attic(spraying rafters) should the gable wall r value match wall or roof?
@SprayJones
@SprayJones 3 года назад
No. We have always treated them like any other wall. The thickness of the roof is really about admitting the coverage needed to get foam on the top cords.

Jones What about spraying pex or copper pipes to eliminate condensation dripping. Thoughts?
@SprayJones
@SprayJones 4 года назад
Go right ahead. Spray plumbing in a wall all the time. Just make sure it is closer the warm side than cold, otherwise you can still have issues.

Pole shed in Ohio...no codes apply (farm building) in this situation - 3" open cell straight to the tin? From what I've gathered, this route might not be as efficient as closed cell....but no terrible consequences, like the tin is going to rust apart - from using open cell...correct?
@SprayJones
@SprayJones Год назад
Ohio gets cold enough that 3" of open cell is light. 2" of closed or 6" of open.

@@SprayJones but as far as using open cell and/or no house wrap...no long term damage to the steel should occur, right?
