Spraying Aphids and Scouting Crops With Our Channel Agronomist! The soybean aphids have reached our threshold and we are spraying. I also spent some time in the field with my Channel Agronomist and we discussed the current maturities and health of our crops.
Thank you to Channel Seed for supporting me and sponsoring this video!! I have used their products for several years and strongly believe in them.

I am a 5th generation family farmer from West-Central Minnesota. The recent interest in food, combined with a large amount of 'misinformation' has driven me to start this channel. I hope to be someone people can relate to and trust when they question how their food is grown and raised. I also hope to become a 'smarter' farmer through my experiences with this channel. I strongly believe we must have an open mind and a willingness to learn about others, or we cannot move forward as one. My goal is to build the connection between farmers and consumers by facilitating a collaborative conversation amongst everyone. I do this by sharing my day-to-day farming experiences, my opinions on certain topics, and occasionally visiting other farms and businesses to help better understand other farming and business practices. There is no limit to where this channel may go, so please join me!!

White mold is bad here in Indiana. A lot of guys around here use a crop duster to spray for it. An air tractor AT-802 and that thing is a beast. Dad and I got to see it spray a small field 30acres maybe with woods on all 4 sides. He came in over the trees and dropped in like a fighter pilot avoiding radar and pulled up at the last second a few times, It was so freaking cool. I think he saw us standing outside our shop watching because before his last pass he flew over us, pulled up until he looped facing back the other way and flipped back over for his last pass. Its fun seeing them spray big fields but on that small tree lined one he was just showing off and that dude was GOOD.

MN must be a nice place in Summer not to have an issue with pollination. We plant a month or longer after last frost to pollinate when we have 60 degree mornings resulting from our days getting to less than 13.5 hrs. Our high yield varieties (113-118 day) require 1400 DDU to fill after silk into Mid August to early October when mornings are down to 50 to 60 degrees. By doing this we can make 2/3 lbs of heavy corn grain per ear. I entered a field in the NCGA contest that 330 looks likely. Usually the Texas winner is 330 but 450 has been made. Interesting how crops are managed on Zack's crops.

Hi Zach, if you still read comments on old videos, I‘d like to know what you do for varying the active substances in your chemicals to prevent resistances? Is that something your agronomists ever encourage you to do? Because here in Germany it’s actually quite a big thing and we‘ve had a lot of success with it. In herbicides as well as in funcicides and insecticides.

Zach thanks for sharing I'M really learning a lot from your videos it amazes me how they can develop crop plants to be resistant to certain herbicides. As for the soybean aphids are they in the soil in the field or where do they come from I have dealt with aphids before on some ornamental and other landscaping plants. I'M like you I have problems pronouncing the names of the active ingredients in a lot of these products i don't understand why they have to make the names of the chemicals so difficult. LOL we use some of the same products you use for turn and plants the active ingredients are the same but they label and call it one name for agriculture and another for turf one example is Quadris we have the same fungicide to use one turf its the same active ingredient but its called Heritage and quadris is cheaper to buy than heritage but we can't use Quadris on turf because its not labeled for turf Crazy. Thanks for sharing and educating us . I really appreciate the time you and your reps take to make these videos for our education and entertainment. Have a great weekend. God Bless!!!

You’re lucky you can still use Chlorpyrifos a.k.a. Dursban, because you can rotate between organophosphate and a pyrethroid product so that the aphids don’t build up resistance to the insecticide. I worked with Dursban for over 20 years I believe it to be a safe product.🤓
