@@darrellsomers5427 My air compressor is a 5 HP single stage oil free Sears compressor. Rated at 8.6 SCFM at 40 psi and 6.4 SCFM at 90 psi. Hope this helps. I also just purchased an A610 gun. Basically a R500 with three separate nozzles.
Definitely want to start practicing.. but first need to get a tank. I only have 8 Gallons 5 cfm compressor. Then i’m gonna practice on some junkyard panels
Great video, i have an aeropro a610 aswell but didnt tested it yet. Im watching Ur vids with this gun to help me getting the best settings for the gun. Going to paint my Honda del sol and want a good result, hope i can get it without a Paint booth. I need to learn about buffing so i can remove dust to get it perfect
Single stage paint, aeropro a 610 to spray with minimal orange peel what pressure should I spray? Closer to 30? Spray some let us know make a video spraying single stage paint. Thank s man
How should i go about painting a very big rectangle shaped box. I would just do it like it was panel by panel but the edges top and sides are all rounded slightly instead of being a corner. Im suppose to keep my wet edge but idk how to go about it. Its 3.5 ft deep and tall. 2 feet wide. Big rectangle with rounded corners. How should i go about it?
Paint what you can the first go around and then let thise sides dry and paint the remaining side or sides and use foam soft edge tape right on the edge. A little polish of the soft edge after it dries
i just bought a devilbiss Dv1, My first decent spray gun, because i usually just paint small thinigs with cheap ebay HVLP guns, But right now im painting some car panels for my car, so want them to look decent... I layed down the primer and metallic basecoat real nice.... Drop coat on the base, and it came out absolutely perfect.... Clear coat on other hand.... Quite bad orange peel... I was 2 turns out on the fluid, at 29psi....... But i think i stayed too far away from the panel... I increased my distance when spraying the metallic basecoat.. So i think i automatically did that with clear coat too... could that be the main cause of the orange peel?
I'm learning quite a lot with your workshops. I'm about to begin my first exp. , painting my 4 runner 2nd gen. . I've ordered already a LVLP gun and I would like to know your opinion about the comp. that I need to buy for this purpose. I've got a 100L direct drive , 289L/min , 85db VS 80L direct drive , 2 separated motors , 298L/min , 68db . Thanks in advance.
Hey Chris, I did a similar spot repair, but the edges of the basecoat were rough and gritty. I'm using the R500 at the settings you suggested. Does having High Flow fittings change the gun setup? Any suggestions would help tremendously. Thank you!
You really shouldn't need a flow fitting. Bump up your fluid spray a bit slower and a bit closer. Try that also make sure you tip is clean and there's no restriction. Hope this helps let me know.
@@GarageNoise sir...last question sir .. I've calculate my compressor . 120L/minutes..so is about 4.2cfm...is this ok for lvlp painting a car ... hopefully you can answer sir...🥰
trims and bumper of my car are made by plastic and done with 2 layer of bumper coater , is it ok to apply clear coat on the top? if so, how long should i wait for paint done before applying clear coat? thanks
Possible, I would check the Technical data sheet for the bumper coater, is that the name of the product? Not familiar with it. If it's an automotive paint you can clear it and it need about ten minutes of flash time before applying clear.
All of your videos are very well done. You get right to the point, with no BS. Your methods work great, and you are a very good teacher. I have watch almost every video. Keep up the great work. Kirk Westervelt Outdoors
Before this I setting fluid volume 2 turn from all open, now I set 2 turn open from all close so that I can control the overspray. I use aeropro r500 a very good gun, I can't find a610 from any malaysia online selling yet.
Great job..... i wish you were around when i was learning not a pro but done multiple cars had to lear hands on i use alot of your tips to make me a better painter thank you
Clear, concise, most helpful for this beginner just fixing my truck. Gave me a little more confidence on my gun set up for clear coat. Somehow mine didn't come out as nice as your but much better than it could have without you!
This is a great video. Helped give me confidence to paint my truck. I watched many of your videos on this gun, and i bought one. I really like it. I just was nervous above laying down good clear. Thanks for the help, and hopefully, in the next week or so, my job will come out as good as this. Only question i have is, do you let the base dry completely before clear, or do you let it flash the recommended amount and then clear over that?? Thank you again

Great video. Thank you. Everytime I spray clear I'm getting dry areas. Can you explain what it's from and how I can spray clear without getting the dry areas? I am using the r500. Thank you!
@@allankaul8331 I don't think so. It happens when I use my fuji mini mite 5 platinum as well as when I use my 20 gal northern tool compressor with the r500. I'm under the impression it's a gun setting or my technique...
too much air pressure and not enough clear coming out its drying I believe aswell as you come closer to some parts of the panels then others. keep an even flow also even distance the whole time your spraying and you will get great results
How do You know How much clear is too much when spraying , I’m one who would love to add along clear but as a novice what it a a good rule of thumb to know when enough clear especially the first pass is enough or when applying a wet coat when enough is applied to keep from getting runs
Great Video. I have a newbee question. I shot a bumper 3 days ago and had a place that didn't get enough clear on it. I didn't have enough light and the angle was wrong. It has enough on it to cut without reaching the basecoat. My question; can I scuff the entire bumper and spray more clear? Would you use a red scuff pad or 4oo wet or something else? Thank You
@@GarageNoise I'm going to do what you say here and thank you for answering my question at all, but I'm just curious why dry? wet is so much easier (in my opinion.)
I finally got my A610 today i set it up how you explained i cant wait to practice i have an old Honda accord fender at home now need to find some paint clear coat and reducer
Man, I'm sorry to keep dropping multiple comments on your videos, but I'm hoping that more comments equals more views for your channel. Day time temps are hitting the mid sixties here in the desert, so it's almost painting time!
@@GarageNoise I would share to social media, but RU-vid is my extent of social media. Facebook, instagram, etc. I avoid like the plague. A lot of people have completely closed out their social media accounts due to sharing personal information, etc. so sharing video links on social media really isn't the best way to grow a RU-vid channel anymore. However, creating great videos like you do *IS* a great way to grow a RU-vid channel!
Hard to know what happing with that without seeing it. Could you be referring to dry spray? Maybe a little light on the clear in one area? Or did this happen after it cured?
I'm just glad I left the trade before having to adopt the HVLP philosophy of having to make way too many passes , way too close to the surface, just trying to get enough paint on the job because the miserable paint gun won't let you pound on the paint and be done quickly.
You watch too many painting videos. Little toy Iwatas are a joke, but Devilbiss DV1 and especially SATA 5500X's will flood matrial. From Binks 7 to Binks 7 gold gun, then the miserable Devilbiss Millennium, I've used SATA for 15 years and if you think old guns are better than these new masterpieces, you must not have sprayed with modern guns.
That was freakin awesome! Thank you for the lessons I always wanted to do a factory-style painting for my bikes or moped or even a car and you can best bet I will follow your instructions very carefully.
Very Good Video. If only this video would have been out many years ago. When I started painting, the paint store that sold me my first gun recommended having the paint volume opened all the way up. Needless to say, I had runs and inconsistent spray amounts because I tried to control the run issue. Thank you for putting this out! And as the other commenters stated I like your no BS approach and getting right to the point.
I've been spraying anything that moves for 60 years, (currently S2 e-type) I have just come across your vids and would like say they are the best, all your tips and comments are priceless
Hey great video! I’m new to spraying. With the sealer section you’ve clipped out the first part explaining the fan pattern setting! Would be so helpful if you could tell me what setting you use, I just bought this same gun, also I thought the fan pattern was the bottom knob and fluid the top so thanks for that!
I'm not sure what your refering too? Some clears you can add reducer a small amount for better flow. I don't do that and haven't recommended any do that. You can use reducer to wash in a clearcoat blend. Let me know if this answers you questions
@@GarageNoise ya I just found a pretty decent 3 stage unit through global industrial under $500 I also came to the conclusion there is a waterborne cleaner I'm using that is causing solvent pops in my clear
I just bought this gun through your affiliate link on RU-vid and I plan to try to use your links the most. With that said on the disposable cup system. What cups and quick-connect adapters go well with this gun?
I use the series one pps system. Aftermarket brands are on Amazon and I have links in description. Sray IQ is my preferred brand but they may still be out of stock also I've used savito amzn.to/448uLXD The adapter I get at harbor freight spectrum #57505 Appreciate the support brother!
Us Paint Reps speak to all gun manufacturers and discuss proper gun set up. You turn your volume all the way out-with the trigger pulled -turn it in until you feel tension- From there you start to count turns in. I’m all the way open sometimes up to one turn in- we need to speak the same Language. Use the slowest Activator/Reducer you can handle. Spray in cooler conditions , 69f is perfect if you can get it. Heat doesn’t improve flow it actually creates Peel cause you have a tendency to overload. Spray with a faster arm movement, with 60-70% overlap. It will lay down flat. I tell painters to practice on bumpers by spraying quickly.
Alot of different techniques to painting. My techniques are based off experience after 30 plus year and are alway being refined. Every painting will develop techniques that work for them as they're experience grows. I will never Criticize Painters for spring differently than I do. Appreciate the comment in support
Hello! A big thanks! For your valuable Videos. I repainted my Bumper Cover. And after clear coat it became orange peel. I wrote to you earlier and asked how to grind, to remove orange peel. You then wrote that I could sand with p600, until the orange peel is gone, but not sand through. Now I have sanded off all the orange peel. But I made a mistake. When sanding the last half of the bumper housing, I used the p800, instead of the p600. (Without knowing about this). So now all the orange peel is gone. But now one half of the Bumper has p600 scratches, and the other half has p800 scratches. My question to you is. After I have wiped the entire bumper cover with the right kind of industrial alcohol, and with silicon removal, and Lacquered 2-3 Layers with Clear Lacquer. Will these various rough/fine scratches be visible through the clear coat now? Because there are two different rough scratches under the clear coat? Thanks! From Tommy Bertilsson from Sweden
I don't show the bad ones🤣🤣. Don't be fooled tho this is the R500, with what I call an appearance package. R500 if the best one for home use. I haven't found one better. If I do I'll let you know. Appreciate the comment and your support brother!
Hey, quick question (PLEASE answer) I have an inline ball filter like the one you have in the video, and I was painting a car, and LOTS of wool like strands were popping up on my paint. This was paint that was very cheap, like $136 for a full gallon of red metallic basecoat cheap. However, I was wondering if it is more likely the paint or the filter? I have only used it a handful of times, although I haven't used it in about a year until today. Also how often should I replace these inline ball filters? Please let me know, thanks!
I don't think it would be from the filter. I've never had an issue. I change mine about once a month, but in the summer should probly change it every couple weeks. Appreciate your comment! Sorry I took so long to answer.
really thanks! Aeropro review seems not very good may be just a distributor, Rongpeng I see is a professional co. Would mind to share the adapter and the caps, regulator etc used?
The adapter for the series 1.0 is a spectrum 57505 from harbor freight that the best way to get it 3m is a #2 legacy series and Hard to find. Appreciate the comment and support!
Great job but I'm wondering how you are getting away with spraying without a booth? Do you have an exhaust fan to get the overspray out. Did you have your torpedo heater running also? I used to spray in my garage but I had the overhead door slightly open with a torpedo heater by the side door entrance just outside but facing in & a whole house belt driven fan on the opposite end on the wall with the window open + furnace filters on the wooden enclosure I built for the fan. I only had siphon spray guns. Great videos you have, like them all.
Thank's brother! I slightly open the front door and the back door with an exhaust fan under the back door. Now I have a exhaust fan in the wall up high in the back. I do use a torpedo heater in the winter but shut it off when I clear. I am slowly building a booth. Appreciate the comment and support!
Great info ,now if your going to practice on panels knowing what the prices are for the material that might be $ what do you suggest. Thanks will keep watching thanks
@@jimmyo5367 2:1 clear is high solids meaning it is a bit more durable than a 4:1 clear . It's a bit thicker product but spray pretty much the same. 2:1 is typically a bit more expensive.
@@GarageNoise Hey Chris I started painting today after putting a few months of preparation on the 1992 VW Cabby. The results are quite horrendous! 🙄 The car was washed 3 times, then prep all grease remover, then isopropyl alcohol and finally tack ragged. I started with a sealer primer and immediately the application formed what I can only describe as creators. I've stopped until I can figure out what went wrong. I can email pictures if you think it will help ID the problem. I'm using an R500 out of the box today with a 1.3 tip. Any help will be greatly appreciated Thanks Jimmy
@@jimmyo5367 send me pics garagenoise247@gmail.com I believe your sealer might be having a reaction to the substrate. Are you painting over the sand orig paint or did you strip it all down? It may just be as simple as appling the sealer too wet on the first coat. Sealer likes to do that I always suggest a light coat to start with to introduce the sealer to the substrate. If their shallow fisheyes (i believe that's what they are) than most of the time they will dissappear on the second coat and won't affect the appearance.
Love the videos, what tip size are you using for sealer, base, and clear with this lvlp setup?. I have this lvlp kit that came with the 1.3,1.5, and 1.7
It would be good to explain to people overlap if it's a 50% overlap you spray 50% of the pattern off the panel when you start and when you finish your spraying 50% of the pattern off the panel as well
Thank you! I just bought this a610 gun, no experience in painting at all. We inherited a vehicle from my grandparents that has a lot of bare metal exposed (no rust) the rest is chipping clear coat and faded paint. I will be needing as much help as I can as a paint shops quotes are ridiculous, asking over have the price of what the car is work. I have don't everything mechanically to fix it up. Now just waiting for the cooler weather and when it's not raining everyday here in Florida. Running a 29 gal 165 PSI 5.3 SCFM @90 PSI 1.8 hp oil engine from harbor freight
I'm painting my 1972 Cutlass 442 with multiple coats of PPG Duracryl Viking Blue lacquer with their High Performance clear for 2 or 3 final coats. Since it's been over 20 years since I painted any car I'm still stressing over this last one! I have a Bink's 2001 siphon feed with an agitator cup that has never been used, a new Devilbiss Finish Line HVLP gun and a new AEROPRO HVLP SPRAY GUN G6600 HVLP gun! I've never used an HVLP gun so I was wondering if there will be any issues using one for metallic acrylic lacquer? Some on car forums say it will be an issue getting the flakes to flow out? Some say to thin down a bit the last color coat with lacquer thinner and it will flow everything out. What do you think.....which of these guns would you use for metallic lacquer paint?
It's been awhile since I sprayed lacquer paint, but If I remember right it sprays real similar to single stage enamel. I really don't think you'll have a problem using any of these guns, as long as the paint doesn't have large metallic flake. Any standard flake will spray though a 1.3 tip. I think you'll like the Devillbis hvlp . I would spray a little test panel and get your feet wet again.
@@GarageNoise I was curious about the 3M PPS cup with the 200 micron cup lid. I was hoping I picked the larger (less fine) filter with this cap. I was hoping that the 200 would allow the standard metallic flakes through and not filter them out! But then, I could remove that filter on each lid and filter the paint when I pour it into the cup using a standard paint strainer.
