Toyota looking like new money now King 👑 I don’t get a chance to spray single stage much but when I do I enjoy it. We all get runs man, that’s just part of the field 👍🏾
Man same thing happens to me on them single stages. Even the best of us get them dam runs. Salute for even showing the errors. I do the same thing in my channel show the good the bad and the ugly. the fast hardener and medium reducer should have been fine. I do that combo as well. Sometimes what I'll do is mix up all my paint and at a few drops of accelerator then let the paint sit for about 15 minutes so it starts to kick. On smaller cars like that one of course. Man I got a big ass run to wet sand out Monday when I get to work 😒🤦🏽♂️🥺 good job king keep em rolling 💪🏼
I thought about letting it sit for a little bit to kick in but I was ready to get this one done bro but I definitely have learned that when I rush something is bound to go wrong 😂 appreciate you checking out the video bro 💪🏾
I am 67 years old and learning how to spray. First off you are a wonderful painter as you have a steady hand and great vision. But the reason I wrote this message is to commend you on how well you explain what you are doing. You have taught this old dog some new tricks and I am very pleased with my progress. Just wanted to thank you.
One thing I learned over the years is to do the top sections first like roof , bonnet and trunk by painting each full panel before moving onto another panel and then I do the sides. Setting up the gun is very important for fan , paintflow and air pressure regulation and using a good water trap regulator as well as a water moisture and regulator right at my gun. I found 30 to 40 psi is good pressure to paint just about anything , from Raptor liner , stone chip and base or clear coats and always get great results. I also wet the floor to minimise dust. Great video
Be very careful for too much reducer also don't spray to close , a good 8" is just goooood. Moving speed and paint flow as well as pressure is all factors playing a part for a bad paint job. Some different types of paint can also play a part.
So glad you showed this. Since I don't have a garage. I'm thinking about shooting my car one panel at a time. I know it'll take forever and I'll use more materials. But I'll probably be shooting outside with a small compressor. I figured if I do it one panel at a time I can take my time and make sure each panel is straight and clean. Then spray 2-3 coats of single stage white on Saturday. By Sunday I can get it ready to go back to work Monday. It's gonna take a few months. But it's better than rushing and messing something up. After it's all done, if it needs it, I can sand it and put another coat on the whole car. But if I take my time I shouldn't need to
One panel at a time works fine with unicolour paint. That's how i do it too, because i have no paint booth and, making a huge mess and a big cloud for all neighbours to watch, the landlord will throw me out. And because i don't paint enough to get routine. Avoid this technique with metallic. The flakes tend to look different each time you spray. With metallic better do one side at a time, according to body lines. Edit: i see, you don't have metallic anyhow. Simple glossy white is great for diy. Glossy black not so much 😆
1st car i painted was with Omni single stage on a 70 VW Bus... with an under powered compressor, had orange peelnfor days... i color sanded it for 2 days but it came out like glass when i was done, i learned a lot about shrinking metal too when doing sharp dents
Great video! I purchased rattle can color matched but the nozzles kept splattering. I decided to wet sand with 1000 grit and will now be spraying single stage with my R500. This video once again helped me navigate what I need to do.
Thank you for the great videos, especially this one on spraying single stage. I have been doing my 36 coupe in stages, fenders, doors, trunk lid etc. This works best for me as I can concentrate on keeping on task. I'm 77 and It's difficult for me to move around a car in a small garage and I tire easily. I did the doors and trunk lid yesterday and as difficult as black is to spray (shows up any imperfections) it came out great. I have been using a 33 gal compressor with the lvlp 500 Sprayit gun that I have learned about watching your videos as well. Thank you!
You’re welcome and I really appreciate you watching the videos and I’m glad the videos were helpful Francis! I’d like to see your finished product when you’re done
@@UndergroundPaintKing Try it, its an old hot rod trick. probably make a test spray first though.. So there is no strange reaction. Gives extra gloss and hardness. Love the videos. God Bless.
@@UndergroundPaintKing yess sirr your welcome UPK 💪🏾! What you said, gone have the owner stepping back everytime to look at it especially under them has station lights
UPK I really enjoy your videos and learn and you are one funny man and I mean that in a sincere way of course. Hey, you got to have some fun too right! You did not get upset with those runs and I would be crying and saying, well you know!! Probably a mixture of things causing them. Update on my R500/A610. Went through customs and it's in LA.
Thanks I appreciate that Danno and it’s really not worth doing if you’re not having fun doing it, whatever it is in life that you’re doing! I’m glad to hear that you are getting closer to having your spray gun which will be when the fun starts when you get to do your painting 💪🏾
Only reason why i use clear coat on single stage is to add pearls……your videos inspired me to paint my nova…..currently im working on body work/ prep then im just about ready to do my ‘73 c/10 swb then when thats done i gotta re spray my cls550 due to failing clear coat and haters keying it fron the previous owner…….its all in the prep work folks…..and keep the gun about 8-10” from the panel and keep it movin……simple as that!!!
Sounds like you have some nice projects to work on and I appreciate the tips Trent, I didn’t think about anyone wanting to add pearls to a single stage paint job but it makes sense!
Thanks for checking out the Corolla Jerry and I’m glad I have learned how to take care of sags and runs and I got some fellow RU-vid friends such as yourself to learn from 💪🏾 have a good weekend my friend!
Great job as usual I have been told to not try single stage for your first paint job. Will single stage hold up to UV rays .I will definitely b watching for more single stage. Thanks
Man, your videos are AWESOME, thanks a lot! I just got a Vevor 4.8 Gallons 2.2CFM@90PSI and I didn't realize that something similar to this size might be actually capable to be used to paint cars. Do you think that I have to upgrade to at least to a Vevor 6.3 Gallons 3.35CFM@90PSI compressor before even thinking about painting my car with an R500 LVLP gun using a single stage paint? Or even that would be too small of a compressor? BTW, huuuuge thanks for showing that runs on the paint, because most RU-vidrs are showing only their perfect jobs on the perfectly prepared cars and the problem is that I haven't done a single car painting job in my life, obviously I'll have a car not perfectly prepared and obviously I'll have runs and all sorts of other problems with applying the paint so big shout out to you for showing that this might happen and what to do to avoid or correct that. And thanks for showing step by step how to prep the car, how to set up the gun, what problems you may get and so on. It's all in a few vids and it's super informative. You're the best, keep it up for the beginners like me to get out and try to do something too, no matter that it won't be perfect from the first try!
You’re welcome and I’m glad the videos have been helpful and I appreciate you checking them out, it’s my goal to help as many people as possible! As far as compressor suggestions go, you want to get a compressor that will consistently deliver the cfm required by the spray gun which in the case of the R500 is 3.5-3.9 cfm and if you’re doing a whole vehicle I recommend a bigger tank around 21-30 gallons which will make things much easier for you. You can do a lot with the smaller tank compressors but doing a whole vehicle with one can be challenging. I hope that helps 💯
@@lesliwells5433 I get it locally, I don’t know of a website that you can order from but you could look it up through PPG online and possibly find something there
I’m shooting my Silverado soon if I need to put my money where my mouth is. Not a problem. I’m using single stage urethane dealer replacement paint from the paint store in laguna Niguel socal. I’m spraying in my drive way I guesss Been fixing 8 spots a luisvill slugger batt found the body about twelve years ago when u used my truck at work repoing …. Only time used personal truck and had drama. Anyhow. Peace
I love your videos! You have taught me a lot. I run two 20-gallon compressors connected together. Do you use a fan for air circulation? Whatever you use, it seems to work great! I don't see a lot of overspray in the air.
No reducer my rear end hieny haus. You are super heavy handed. U laid down a lot of material. Few runs is getting away with murder. I know because I to tend to put more then under coating lol. But yes 2st pass no reason to go heavy. Single stage is fun and easy. U go light to medium then let it kick for ten min start to get ready to light to medium pass. Wait 20 min ish give final and usually last round. I do 4 layer I call it with single and it’s got some depth dog. Give it a try u will be suprised what u can do with a single stage mix. Doesn’t have to be applied ine pass fyi as many as u feel to ur liking. It’s gonna cure in same time all as one thick surface so do ur thing but yeah good job meng.
Still a nice looking job, Boss. It's not like you're doing a Bentley. One suggestion. Just so your students know, how about telling us how much material you use on each job? That'll keep our cost down, too.
Thanks Joe I appreciate the suggestion but I honestly don’t explain how much I use because all paint materials aren’t the same, some materials cover very well and others cover poorly so I could explain how much material I used but if someone uses a different material then what I use it may not cover the same. I’ll do my best to put people in the ballpark of how much material will be needed
Im curious about your garage exhaust system. Can you show it? Need to paint a few areas on my car and dont want to spend the extra on a booth. Been 20 years sense ive painted. So im buyng new guns and stuff. As you know that could get expensive. Vevor sounds good.
@@UndergroundPaintKing warehouse. thinking of creating a cheap booth in it with materials already laying around. or harbor freight 12x20 car port in the warehouse to keep dust out.
@@clydecare normally creating a cross draft setup is sufficient for what you’re trying to do but you also need something to pull the fumes out of the rest of the warehouse. Email me at ugpk810@gmail.com and I’ll send you pics of my shop fans and maybe that will help
Hi UPK, How many ounces of paint did it require to put on two coats? I did not see the quantity you mixed up but I might have missed it. If this was a base coat clear coat just double what you put down? Thank you!
I don’t know how many ounces I used but I purchased 3 quarts of the single stage white so that I would have extra in case I needed it which I did have some left over, if this was a base coat clear coat job I could have gotten 2 quarts of base which when reduced gives me a gallon of sprayable base and a gallon kit of clear, I only sprayed the outside of the car and not the door jams so I would have needed more base coat if I were spraying the jams as well, I hope that helps!
Unlike base and clear coats your first coat being a tack coat on single stage should have little overlay. Once the tack coat flashed off then go to a heavier overlay. Even still, your doing a great job!
I'm not sure if you've answered this or not, but how do you set the r500 up for single stage? I see you spray it at 26psi, I'm curious about fan, and fluid settings. I just got the a610 after watching your videos, and can't wait to try it out. Thank you for these videos.
The white looks good on this car. I know you got the skills and everybody gets runs but I still like to do a dry run on the car I'm working on. Just so i know where i wanna go next and where my wierd angles come in. Like that back spoiler. Under the headlights to. Still came out nice. Be blessed
using the cheap HF purple gun with a 20 gallon 200psi compressor do you think I can get an ok paintjob done single stage? I am painting a small car (datsun 510) how much of the car do you think I will be able to spray before compressor has to catch up? Thanks for your awesome content.
That gun requires 6 cfm to function properly so if your compressor can’t handle that just take your time and allow the compressor to catch up and you’ll still be able to get a great job💯 I appreciate you checking out the videos 🙏🏽
When you say “small compressor” aside from a 30 gallon tank what’s your take on a oil-less vs conventional oiled pump? Would you recommend one over the other? Much thanks!
I have used both and if I had to choose I probably would go oil-less because of no oil and a little quieter, hope that helps and I appreciate you checking out the video!
Dude, you spray with both hands? Dang that's talent right there sir! Hope you find a chance to spray a red single stage or black one day soon (non-metallic) of course.
im about to start buying a compressor and gun for my first spray job... doing up an old Landcruiser over here in Australia.. everyone keeps telling me i cant do it without buying a 12 CFM/300LPM or higher compressor what sort of specs should I go for in a smaller compressor? would a 50L 12CFM 200LPM compressor work? thanks for your videos mate it gives me hope!
If you know what spray gun you’re going with it’s best to have a compressor that can deliver the required cfm of the spray gun so that you get consistency in your air flow
I actually show my pressure in the video and my compressor size is a 21 gallon that I have showed in other videos, also I sprayed with a 1.3 tip, I appreciate you checking out the video 💯
You put the first coat on too wet you need to have a cover coat in medium giving enough time between 1st and 2nd coat for the paint to have something to stick to! After two coats for leveling you can add some reducer and do multiple misting costs for leveling! You also need to have a plan in painting you were a little helder skelder!
Chief or 49er ? you got the same Shop Line products that i use Bro, even that damn air compressor sound like mine . you had the gun too close ,it gives you runs .me too .lol
toyota paint code 040 how do we know which cars is is single stage ?? we must ask paint supplier seller store??? also i do have A610 & they so hard to remove nozzle 1.3mm come with it, it's like super glue they glued the nozzle 1.3mm into the gun, so what is difference of this R500 & A610 ??? i can see R500 LVLP come pre-nozzle kit 1.3mm ONLy but the A610 does come with 2 difference nozzle which ready have but man can't open to clean up the nozzle cuz is so tight & almost damage the gun trying open it, i have many gun here good brand made from taiwan and good quality spary guns, but i like to buy spray fair pries with good reported spray gun made for collection 😀, so before decide buy this gun i would like to know
@@thanhnguyen4908 best way to know if something is single stage is to sand the paint with a fine grit, if color shows on the sand paper it’s single stage and if not it’s base clear. The difference between the R500 and A610 is mainly the body of the spray gun but both spray about the same which is good quality in my opinion so if you decide to get yourself one you won’t be disappointed!
Love these videos - this may have been a $700 car. Super tiring to hear folks say you need a $2000 compressor, $800 gun, and $3000 of PPG paint on projects like this. Auto paint hobby is full of elitist snobbery. This looks great and probably triples the value of the vehicle. Really appreciate your content.
I enjoy you being honest ! Helps for beginners to understand that mistakes going to be happening and not to be afraid to deal with them . They are part of the process . I would also say it’s more easy to fix runs than to cut and buff the whole car because of orange peal . Your gloss was spot on !
Man..i don't know how you do it.. i got a r500 and trying to paint single stage, either it comes out too dry and orange peels or if i try to get it wet enough to be smooth i get insane runs... making me nuts
@@UndergroundPaintKing Just annoyed.. soo much prep work and blah :) I tried more less material.. and running 20-25 psi.. i might need to practice some
I show the psi at the beginning of spraying the car and here is a video on how I set my compressor up to be able to spray, I appreciate you watching the videos! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G0CYIwbSmGo.htmlsi=PYqSn4vY5F6idnX_
Thank you.... I'm getting ready to spray my old 1990 Chevy Z71.. std can... short bed step side... WILL ONE GALLON BE ENOUGH??? counting on your EXPERIENCE .. T I A
That would depend on the product you go with and the mixing ratio as well as how well the product covers, it’s possible that a gallon may work for you but you may need more depending on what you’re doing
Think of it like spraying clear on a cold day !!! spray 1st coat and check your paper to see how tacky it is before shooting your 2nd round (temperature can be your friend or enemy ) you got this don't sweat it
