I had a huge duckweed problem in my pond. The pond was covered completely and i after researching how to clean it up, I decided to spray 1/4 with Diquat to see what happens.
Disclaimer: Do your own research and decide what treatment for your pond is best for you. If you have a big problem with algae, duckweed, or other issues, reasearch how to treat those. There are little, if any fish in this pond, so I will not be responsible for any fish kills or the like. Algae is a different problem and requires different chemicals. Use at your own risk. Thanks

I am going to try this today. You are the only channel who actually shows how it’s done. All others talk eloquently but just trying to sell their version of pond management. Thanks so much👍👍

Good luck and remember to spray 1/4 to 1/3 at a time to avoid depleting the oxygen in the water and harming fish.

What treatment are you speaking of for pond muck? You said it’s used for septic tanks. All pond sludge removers are over priced so if there is an alternative that isn’t marketed towards pond maintenance and serves dual purpose would be awesome! Thanks in advance.

I really cant recall. I didnt have to take that route after the diquat but I remember reading about it. Just can’t remember where. Apologies and best of luck

Last question…. Did you use the Diquat straight or did you mix in a surfactant to improve performance?

@@hansoncc2 surfactant but cant remember which one. I bought both off Amazon

How much diquat did u use? How big is your pond? It's hard to get a straight answer on how much to buy.

I want to say it was .75-1oz per gallon and I bought a quart off amazon with a small container of the surfactant. If you have fish in there, only spray 1/4 of you pond at a time with a pump up or back sprayer and wait two weeks. If you have an aerator you should run it more than normal if you have fish in there. Apply like you apply round up. No need to try to cover every square inch. You should see it start working within a week. the duckweed on my pond starting turning within a few days. My pond is about 8700 sq ft. and very little fish in there. Let me know how it turns out for you and hope this helps.

Yes. Give it a month or so before you do anything else

@@HB-kp6rl I had a plan was diquat kill before winter after that use the grass carp fish to help maintain would that be a good idea cause this is my first doing this
@HB-kp6rl
@HB-kp6rl 2 года назад
@@carlmarcus01 I have no idea about the carp. I was looking installing an aerator and treating the sludge on the bottom of the bond if the diquat worked. And it did. Once its all gone it’s much easier to maintain. Just spray it again once you see the green haze of the duckweed starting to form and youll be fine

It'll not only be the fish you are at risk of killing...it'll be all pond animals and insects, and plants you are harming. And all land animals that frequent your pond edges...😡
