Yes all those vocal groups you just mentioned could dance as well as sing . they would dance really hard and still be in tune with the music... You make me want to find Hi- five's soul train appearance thanks for bringing them up.
Harley Overall Hi Five didn't compare to NE or Troop, but their lead singer, Tony Thompson, was every bit on that level. Dude was a star who could sing and move at the same time in the tradition of the great R&B acts.
stonedog23 Right Tony Thompson could sing his ass off he could have been just as big as Trey Songz and Chris Brown or bigger if he hadn't let drugs get the best of him dude could ad lib and riff
In their prime they were practically unmatched! They had at 3 solid lead singers and exceptional distinctive harmony! Their choreography was pure organized street magic! What made it even more intriguing was the entire groups ability to keep in tune after an explosive high energy freestyle breakdown!
Chuckii Booker and that OTHER singer can DEFINITELY sing, because they DIDN'T use no type of track in the background where they would lip sync over it!
Oh my GAWD!!!! They SLAYED that performance!!!!! I'm sorry, but Troop way better than a lot of their contemporaries at the time! It was a real treat seeing them perform at the 2014 BET Awards! Dem boyz STILL got it!!!!
I know it was such a happy time watching him perform growing up it made my early childhood such a beautiful time in my life some of my best years ever this song reminds me of my childhood everytime I hear it I remember those days.
I just came to see what Allen was gon do. He was my favorite, vocally. That brotha could *sing*. It was so effortless. Their stamina is good too. All that dancing and didn't miss a beat. This will always be my jam. They looked sharp in their little fits. Great performance.

@3:15 Don't sleep on that quick harmonized blend arrangement between Steve Russell-Harts and Allen McNeil. And they did it while choreographically out of breath. Much respect.
I remember seeing these guys in an interview and they were saying how their goal was to perform live and sing live without being winded, because they had seen many artists who could do one or the other, but not both! So this was their goal, they would jog every morning and exercise and do breathing. I remember seeing them live in high school, and they were amazing! They were on tour with MC Hammer and I enjoyed their performance even more so.
Brings back memories. When men were men (even if they were in the CLOSET,they stayed in the damn CLOSET),baggy clothes, like MEN,people sung their heart out, danced, positive vibes in music, the colors, the hairstyles (lol) I miss this....
TROOP was second to none. NO ONE could out dance these brutha's, they brought it each & every time!!! On the remake of the song, "All I Do Is Think Of You", Troop made J5 sound good by putting it on the map, most ppl hadn't even heard the J5 version until after Troop sung it. I like the fact that they weren't afraid to let each other shine! By the way, just because a brutha says he tired of being undercover doesn't mean he's gay, it means he's tired of runnin' women & want that 'special one'!
Arsenio made his artists sing and dance live and I LIVED for it. I can say that Troop and Jodeci were my fave groups from the 90s. The music and vocals MOVE me.
How did they do all that dancing and come back to the mic sounding fresh like that!!! I think that's called "talent"!!! Allen was showing out on the vocals with his fine sexy self!!!
allen had a voice that was just so dope it was like he was crying through his vocals but only he could do it. steve just as dope but allen ad-libs were incredible without doing too much
NE are definitely "Our Temptations" that's exactly what I've been saying. If Troop had the proper backing they would've been a part of those ranks as well. Great group!!! Always loved watching them dance. Their energy alone makes them one of the best R&B groups of all time.
I love both Allen Mcneil and Steve Russell's voices they both could SING.... I won't comment on which one l think is better l don't want to start a debate lol.
@sarah simpkins didn't say they weren't. Allen and Steve usually sang lead on every song, sometimes Jon Jon. The one two lead formula of Allen and Steve was better than most groups. That's what I'm saying
@@RTDavis0503 I loved them all the brothers had it all looks, style , sex appeal and they could really move it gets no better, Rodney, Steve, Allen, Jon Jon , Reggie they were the complete package.
I just can't get over that note Allen hits! 2:14 Urrrrrrrrum! I just love it! His voice is really distinctive. I think it is such an amazing thing to be able to sing.
Wow!!! The Memories gives me chills. How fun that era was. I can remember watching this late night and then going to school the next day to try all the dance moves..LOL The whole school would be talking about the performance and of course we wanted All the girls to like us as much as they like Troop. So we would have them moves down packed to show off by lunch time
By the mid 90's R & B lost it's soul. Music has never been the same since. Thank goodness for RU-vid and the many users who captured all these wonderful musical moments.
Now we need more R&B group like this!!! Because the music of yesterday it sill sounds good today. Who wants to hear B%$CH, N*&GA, and H#E all day in a song! That is nothing but poison for the mind and it will put you in a negative mood. This song is up tempo and upbeat (positive)!!!
I know that's right that's exactly why some of young black male don't respect these young woman's call out of their names and they think that's cute these young woman's don't respect them selves like i was raise up
@@fredajohnson506 nope I actually enjoy this kind of music I always did even when I was a little girl my mother started me up early listening to this kind of music.
They did not miss a beat!!! My mother had an old VCR tape with troop videos and live performances she had when l was a kid l remember their soul train performance just like yesterday they had women screaming like heck l wish l could find that tape now lol.
At their Height NOBODY couldn't fuck with Troop. they were hands down the best dance and vocal group. they just didn't have longevity like New Edition.
True. I'm a N.E. fan too & at their top, Troop couldn't be touched. Still can't cause these new groups out now don't sing live so they can dance. Troop did both with ease.
Wow these dudes can dance and still sing at the same time without being winded! Probably the best dance performance by a group, while maintaining good vocals I ever seen.
Man I remember watching this when I was like 9 or ten years old lol on.I haven't seen this in 25years.I used to watch this show back in the days on an school night.this brings so much memory s in my childhood lol.troop always put on an good show to bad we don't have music like this any more.no body dance no more.all I have to say troop all of them had talent all of them can sing.it didn't matter who had the best voice all I know they always put on a good show and had good music to dance too and how fun they had and we had.I am just glad that I was born in the 80s when we had good music
I always felt like if you but both allen and Steve's vocals in a blender you get the adult version of Michael Jackson, those dudes SANG. R.I.P to Reggie, this will always be such an underrated but amazing rnb group
The drummer is Lester Falconer, I worked with Amazon in Moreno Valley in 2017-2020, he was one of the chill ist dudes I’ve met, a real one, I stay in contact with him. He played drums for many groups including this one, I was very young during this performance though.
