Our fields are as wet as Moisty Mire after 20+ inches of rain.
How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a RU-vid channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin.
Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like.
These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.
Be sure to subscribe for new videos every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday at 11AM Central!

I like the answer you gave concerning manure analysis. Manure is mostly highering the level of organic matter in soil. By doing so, it enhance soil water capacity in the same time. Even spreaded in spring time, the lost of manure nutrients is pretty high. Expecially in cold temperature or heavy rain conditions. Also, compost manure as a higher mineral nutrients level but it's kind of a hard task on a dairy farm to do compost with the large amount of work you got every day. At least, solid manure is building a better soil structure than liquid manure. That's for sure !

You don't realize how much a barn cleaner does until you don't have one. Back when I was 16 we installed a manure pit on the farm and we could not use the cleaner for a few days while they built the hopper. Every morning I had to shovel it out by hand into a wheel barrow, then into a loader bucket, then into a spreader.

Daily core over here, could use a better spreader, but they are expensive. Rite now were piling it up, waiting to get beans off! Forcast is looking good, hope it stays that way, and for you guys! 👍

That's a good spreader Ryan. I have the smaller and older New Idea 352 and it does a heck of a job. The way I see it is, if you're spreading manure it's good for the soil.

Another possibility to "normalize" ( and increasing its nutrient value/availability ) of your manure is composting . Blending the various sources and using the heat of decay will further breakdown your fodder . It also means you can compost any dead losses from your calf and steer operations . Trick is to keep the compost wet enough which means "V" ing the top of the windrow to cach casual moisture and best is the circumstance to divert/capture any runoff onto tillable areas or pasture or even pump back onto the compost . It'll work dandy but the real question for y'all is it doable in your situations with your equipment and labor resources ? The best advantage ( aside from the improved nutrient stream ) is the ability to tailor the compost application to your schedule. Always something to ponder on ! Great videos ! Great channel(s) !

Most areas do not allow composting of deceased animals, disease control reasons, instead the carcasses are collected by rendering or cremation services, the other option is burial.

Nothing beats good old fashioned manure for fertilizer. It is much cheaper and safer than stuff created in a lab. In manure you know whats in it and not nearly as axplosie as Amonioum Nitrate.
