I was watching this 1 hour before my computer practical because I did not know anything and I literally topped in my class,I am commenting after my test
i went to university and did not get my head around spreadsheet, today i beleive teaching is a talent not everyone can teach but this gentleman has figured it all out, after 15 years of not knowing how spreadsheet works i know understood the basics of spreadsheet under 10 mins ....what a pure talent thank you.
He really did a good job and unlike a few of videos I have seen the visual is great.I am almost computer illiterate & I have a basic understanding of what is being implied.
I've been using spreadsheets on computers since VisiCalc came out, but I still learned something from this video. I didn't know that the newer spreadsheets had the ability to copy a formula by dragging the cell into a range! Thank you, Chris.
Great teacher, a total newcomer to spreadsheets but this tutorial was reassuring and fairly easy to understand, ill probably watch it a few times to digest everything but well done the instructor.
Ahhhh, good subject! The first use of computers I can remember (back in my Basic Program Language days) was to create and use spread sheets. You can imagine how excited I was when Ami Pro came out and using Lotus 123! I think even more of a memory was creating when I made my first spread sheet in computer lab (where we were assigned time slots and usage caps). I somehow created a endless loop and walked away without signing out! I had to explain to my class instructor why I was out of time after just one assignment!? In those days, I feared I would never make it through college. I did and there is the story. Thanks Chris for all you do! Rich
@@ExplainingComputers Just found your channel as am almost computer illiterate & attending a data operations class & wanting to be able to pass my exams thought of watching a few videos & here I am.thank you,it's truly informative.I have subscribed.
This the first time of the maybe 10 times l have had spreadsheets explained to me that l understand it,that was simply and easy to comprehend ,thank you,l just subscribed!👍👍
Thank you so much. My ‘teacher’ was never able to explain to me what a spreadsheet was nearly 20 years ago and I now really need that knowledge as I need to start using them. You’re a lifesaver and a great teacher. Thank you so much!
Going through one "teacher" after the next, I've come across some horror situations, tiny unreadable spreadsheets, rattling off explanations impossible to keep up with, sudden clicks doing commands without any explanation as to how, and on it goes! After all that.... YOU"RE THE BEST! Thank you!
Thank you! Although I should know how to work with spreadsheets by now, I was too bored to start any tutorial. Now that you're making these videos I'll follow them as you upload them.
Years ago, I taught CLAIT (before it moved to the "Euro IT Passport") to a specific market of Adults and got a 99%+ pass rate for my students. Chris, I think you've knocked the spots totally off another well-known, expensive course provider for how you explain spreadsheets - both in terms of content and production quality. Even though I know how to use the Office Suite, it's great to have a refresher. Not only do I look forward to more, but also to the image manipulation programs also. Thanks for another episode - I wish you a fantastic week!
I was asked to make a spreadsheet at work and I have never opened excell. Thank you for this, they expected it to take me all day to figure it out. Took me an hour. 😂 My hero.
Wow! I'm new to learning spreadsheets because I want a career change and I was asking my brother about spreadsheets, and he made it sound difficult. This video makes it look simple and easy to understand!
Good luck with your learning. In the next two parts of this series, things get more difficult, but also increasingly powerful -- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Pm_raXxS8u8.html
Thanks for a very simple, clear and well explained tutorial. I've been using Open Office for years and didn't know how to apply a single calculation to a whole column. I was doing it the hard way, which allowed plenty of scope for errors to creep in. Now, thanks to you, I know. Well done!
Thanks so much. I'm 70 yrs old and am trying to set up this for my craft work sales and expenses. Wish me luck on this spread sheet. I have been doing it the OLD way Pen and paper.
Every year at school we did spread sheets in ICT and every year I'd learn how to use them and promptly forget everything in time for next years Excel lessons. Even after leaving school the Excel cycle continues.
This is how you teach, my gosh. People suffer in their childhood cause some individuals cannot teach. Consequently, grow up and are not confident or know how to navigate or achieve grades and positive outcomes due to not being taught in a way that’s understandable!.
This teacher is great but the only thing bad; he has great focus on practicals then tutorials of which all are important. But he still remain my best teacher on RU-vid
Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this..starting a new position at work and I’ve never done anything dealing with spreadsheets..I appreciate you
Excellent and clear video. Easy to follow, glade spreadsheets are pretty much standardized going from Microsoft Excel to any of the free download options.
Exactly what I needed. Thank you. I will be watching more of your videos. Well edited. Great visuals. And explained everything I needed to get started perfectly.
One powerful argument in favor of the claim that spreadsheets are a superset of software is their unmatched level of versatility. Unlike most software programs limited to specific functions, spreadsheets offer a boundless canvas for data manipulation and problem-solving. They act as a universal toolkit, allowing users to tackle diverse tasks from simple calculations to complex financial modeling, statistical analysis, and even basic programming through formulas. This vast range of functionalities, adaptable to user needs and imagination, sets spreadsheets apart and potentially positions them as a more versatile "meta-software" encompassing the capabilities of multiple specialized programs. While acknowledging limitations in technical depth and scalability, this argument highlights the unique flexibility and power of spreadsheets as versatile tools for exploring, manipulating, and making sense of data in an open-ended way. I know your busy, but this is really a wonderful video and series. Anything like this you would want to do in the future would be much appreciated. Thanks again.
Great video. It's also even easier to 'double click' on the cell divider line at the top to resize your columns to exactly the desired size without having to click and drag.
There are parts 2 and 3! :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Pm_raXxS8u8.html and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iFz82q4vHnk.html
I’m a 6th grader and will be having finals next week ,tomorrow is my computer test and I didn’t know anything about spreadsheets so thank you so much, I’m extremely great full.
Excel is made quite simple here. Used to avoid it a lot for the fear that it was difficult but as I was watching the video I kept asking myself what is actually difficult. Just saved the video, I will follow it up as he has said and see if I get the same results as he has.
I am so happy I found this video my goodness I bet I'll do exceptionally well in my exams. The videos for the the actual exam with the spread sheet topic is a disaster while this is my way of learning VERY EASY AND SIMPLE UNDERSTANDABLE INSTRUCTIONS 👍 I see my self getting straight As this time around.
Wow! I've actually bought myself a small magazine I found in our local shop for 2€ about Excel (despite only owning OpenOffice Calc) but I've never come around to read it - Guess this video-series makes the magazine obsolete! :) Keep it up, I'd love to see more - and thanks a bunch!
+Skelpolu Many thanks for this. I wondered what people would make of these spreadsheet videos. The second will post next week, and in it things get more complex. But I had to start with the basics. A third video is also recorded, but I will go back to hardware or something like that for a week or two between the second and third. Whether I do more spreadsheet videos after number 3 will depend on the views and feedback the first videos get. I spent over 20 years teaching spreadsheets, so it seemed a good idea to give a series of videos a try! :)
+ExplainingComputers Well, to be fair, I only barely knew the basics. "sum()" was literally the only thing I knew, even though the rest seems relatively logical, now that I know how it works. Looking forward to part two, this pilot-episode got me hungry for more - Keep it up, Chris. :)
I of to comment again because my I.T teacher was certainly not doing a good job at all because this is so easy but yet still it looks like magic lol I mean please teachers step up your games. THANK YOU AGAIN PEOPLE LIKE YOU WILL DEFINITELY MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE 🙌
