That's a good way to put it. I like them when they're running myself!

Give me the age and probably how many hours that fan has ran it probably just has some wearing one of those bearings

It's from either the 1950s or early 60s I imagine, I bought this from the Facebook Marketplace a couple of years ago and really haven't used it continuously. It wasn't like that until I took the motor apart.

A friend of mine just picked one up. It's a 2 speed with the C&H Air Conditioning branding. The fan needs electrical work. It has a 2 speed Westinghouse motor controlled with a toggle switch. Im going to guess that toggle switch is original.

Great! I don't think the toggle switch on this is original, this may have had a standard rotary switch at point . The other models like this usually have a rotary switch in general. The previous owners of this fan did a decent job rewiring and modifying the switches. Would this friend of yours happen to be technical heritage? If this person has a channel on RU-vid, I would love to see a video of the one you guys found.

The humming noise almost sounds like coil whine. Does the reverse use a seperate set of coils in the stator? It could be the wires in the coil vibrating due to the high current draw on startup, which also explains why it gets quiet once the fan is up to speed. It might be worth soaking the coils in some sort of epoxy to help anchor the coils in place, see if that remedies it.

That is a good observation, it does have multiple cables going into the motor so It's possible that could be the case. I do have some electrical sealer varnish, as soon as it warms up more I'll try it and see if it makes a difference.

@@stevethefanman8955 any updates on the motor? hoping I was somewhat helpful with my suggestion :)

The motor is fine now , I found out that the screws and bolts were not secure enough probably from vibration. As for anything concerning the electricals , I haven't had the time to get to that yet .
