Hey guys, back again with yet another spotting video, this time from good old Sacramento! I have to say, with all the rain we've been getting, it's really made the grass a rather potent green, making for a pretty nice backdrop (sounds silly, I know, but here in California it's almost always dried up and yellow-ish).
Also, something you're probably not aware of, but Southwest, Alaska, and FedEx almost always use the western runway here at SMF, but it seems it was closed down today (most likely maintenance), so all flights were transferred to this runway, meaning I was able to get a bit more traffic!
Anyhow guys, I hope you enjoy the video! Thanks for watching :).

And also, Southwest mostly uses runway 16L. Thats where I was recording and I got alot of traffic. I only saw 1 southwest land at runway 16R/36L. I guess they have changed?.

Yay you got a real spring unlike us in the east coast!

You guys don’t get spring? It’s probably that here in California the climate is warmer, so we get the spring effect a bit earlier than those more up north.

Pure Aviation yeah winters are hella long now so they kind of invade spring lol

Just hang in there man! But hey at least your summers aren't that hot, no? Here in Sac it's about high 90s/low 100s in the summer, can't do anything in that weather!

Pure Aviation very very humid over the summer😂 but thanks

The western runway will be closed until October for repavement into concrete (like the eastern runway), so this will create some nice spotting opportunities for now till end of summer! Also afternoons are nothing but a bunch of southwest planes. For more variety, the morning rush 5:30am-7am is great and noon turn arounds (11-2) are pretty good spotting times. In the summer when the sun is out longer evening 7pm-10pm is good for the arrivals rush.

Oh, so that's what's going with the runway, thanks for letting me know about this! (Looks like I'm the one who's not aware haha!) And yeah about the times, I remember you mentioned it in my last SMF spotting video - I was going to go earlier this time around but ended up not being able to due to other responsibilities. But hey, at least I got the FedEx again :P.

Great location for capturing your video images!👍 looks like your right on the airport property there. Is there a viewing location there?? I miss that a person can’t hangout in the terminals anymore and get a close up view of the aircraft and operations. Thanks for your videos!👍👍

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed the video! Yes, there is actually a pretty nice viewing location - I know, surprising for a US airport. You go to the top of the Terminal A parking garage and from their you have a great view of the A gates as well as runway 34R/16L.

I live in sacramento, and once me and my dad we went to the back if the airport where everyone was landing, and we saw like 7 Southwests and 1 Delta land, there are so many southwest airliners landing
@omarr845

Yeah I think it’s SMF’s top airlines because of how many land per day and also how many take off

Southwest owns over half the market share in Sacramento. It's definitely their stomping grounds

It's kind of spooky to see DC 10, MD 11's repurposed as transports. But they overcame the FAA issues (as the FAA was then) and found another life...good

They've been around for quite a while actually. Southwest installed their first split scimitar winglets back in 2014, though they've been around on other airlines since 2013.
