Using an eBow to vibrate the string and create a constant drone. Twisting the tuning peg changes the pitch of the drone. Played other parts with a chip brush and my hands. Processed through guitar pedals.

Reminds me of the BBC sound workshop, back in the days of early Dr Who.

Absolutely amazing, really well done. Not only does it sound great, I kind of get the vibe of radio engineers from the 1940's creating huge varieties of sounds through ingenious combinations of equipment in the studio. Thanks for sharing this.

Thank you for saying this! I’ve been wanting to get into foley art too, but I have no real idea of how to get started? Maybe this is it then.

@@scarymountainwizard I think if you continue with this channel and perhaps contact people with similar channels then that might lead to something. Your video sounds a lot like Nurse With Wound. Excellent work.

Exquisitely scary. Love it. I've been exploring base-16, 16-tone equal temperament, and you can get some pretty scary sounding sonorities. I've also become interested in musical instrument manufacturing, but it's hard to know where to start.

Hey, what is the gadget with the blue light? Is it electromagnetic and swings the strings?
@sysiphuspeart9012
@sysiphuspeart9012 4 месяца назад
It's an e-bow. That's exactly what it does. It's made for guitar. I believe the light is there to help you aim it at a particular string. I've never played one myself, but they look fun.

EBow. It uses electricity to vibrate a string endlessly.

very cool and inspiring ... what about a metal plate as box top ... 🤔
@scarymountainwizard
@scarymountainwizard Год назад
That’s a neat idea! Essentially anything that can create a vibration will be picked up by the piezo discs inside the box. A metal sheet might give me a plate reverb type sound.

thats incredible and ingenious. well done! - how do you record the sound - into something like audacity or a hardware recorder?
@scarymountainwizard
@scarymountainwizard 8 месяцев назад
From the pedalboard I went into an interface and recorded onto Reaper. These days I tend to use a Zoom H6 to record and then mix it down in a DAW later. Thanks for the comment!

Thinking about building something similar myself, do the springs also act as a sort of reverb or is all of reverb coming from effects?
@scarymountainwizard
@scarymountainwizard Год назад
Both, sorta. The springs vibrate so it’s constantly giving a signal for the piezos. Then processing through pedals helps it the rest of the way. Really fun build, though!

Neat. What are you using as the mic? A piezo pick-up?

Yeah, it’s a piezo wired to a tone/volume pot, and then to a 1/4” output like a guitar.
@Ascsoms

It was just a simple $15 pre-wired piezo disc kit that you can get on Amazon. But I wired in one more disc to give me another surface to pick up vibrations.
