Hello, lovely friends! The spring blooms are popping up everywhere now and it's inspired me to give the cottage a good cleaning. There's nothing quite like a freshly cleaned home with some beautiful spring cuttings placed throughout.
I hope that you've had a wonderful week. Please leave a comment below and let me know what you've been up to!
Thank you so much for being here and watching! XOXO

You look so pretty perched in your yellow dress on the big rock among the daffodils. I look forward all week for your next video. Your videos just boost my mood and make me happy. Your creativity shows in your photography. You are truly an artist ! I love how you appreciate handmade things such as the granny throws and things from the past. You let their beauty shine once again. When I look at these quilts, afghans and embroidered pieces I think of the women who sat and created these objects and of the homes these items graced and that these ladies created. Thank you for your work. You have no idea how much joy you spread and how much you inspire me and I know many others too. I wanted to suggest another you tuber you and others might enjoy. It’s a channel called Scott’s Old Curiosity Shop. Scot takes the viewer along while he thrifts and shares his extensive knowledge about antique glassware and furniture. He especially loved the 1930’s and is furnishing a bungalow in NJ vintage 1930 finds. He has an eBay shop but he does not pressure anyone to buy. I’ve learned so much about vintage items from him. Hope you have a wonderful Easter and be well.

Best DIY cleaner: collect orange & lemon peels, keep fresh in fridge. When you have enough, put into large mason jar, fill with white vinegar and let mingle for 2 weeks. Then strain and some people use the liquid straight for a cleaner, some people dilute wit distilled water a bit. I use it straight.

Wow the place is really changing. You've done a ton of clean up and it shows. One thing I try to remember to do as I prepare to do "chores" is to think "I GET TO clean up the garden" instead of "I HAVE TO clean up the garden." One tall flower I would suggest is Shasta Daisies, a perennial whose blooms last a good part of the summer. You never have to replant them, and they multiply each year so you can dig some up to use in other areas. A great plant and a great investment.

Wow you are really having some warm spring weather! You're outside in a t-shirt?! 😆 The garden area is looking so nice! Our weather is still pretty chilly here in Central Oregon, we're having peek-a-boo warmness but not sticking just yet. I noticed yesterday that there are some tiny buds on trees being brave enough to come out. Yay! I LOVE those little tree stump planters!! What a great idea! And girlfriend!...I am SO guilty of not "moving" my body enough all winter too! I love to hibernate! I put on a couple extra pounds over Christmas and they're still here!!! 😭😭 Promising myself to take advantage of ANY of our nice days to go on walks with Taco dog (we both need to lose a few pounds LOL!) And your nicely painted toes are reminding me it's time to do that too! 😄 So excited to see the progression of your garden area - and I think I know what you're going to do with those birch branches & picnic table!! 😍😍😍 Thank you, sweet Kate! Have a lovely week and Happy Easter! 🌷🌼🌷🐰🐣

We've definitely had warm days ... but you can't go by how I dress to judge the temperature, lol! I was born very hot-blooded and tend to be in a t-shirt if I'm working outside even when it's in the 30s : ) I absolutely fall apart when it's hot out!!!!!! Hope you have a wonderful week!♥♥♥♥

I, too, go like mad to unpack as quickly as possible when moving. I just need to make my surroundings feel like home. Packing boxes everywhere make me feel so unsettled. But I then take my time to rearrange my furniture and bits to suit my new surroundings. I love that process. I, too, have to be careful with my little chihauhau Zoe because of hawks. I was so shocked to see an eagle in the distance a few weeks ago as I live in a suburb close to a major city in Australia. There had been bush fires in the surrounding hills and wonder if the eagle was following the movement of wildlife escaping the flames. It's definitely not a typical sight, but it certainly made me more aware of Zoes safety. Your garden is now showing its beauty and hidden secrets. It looks like it will be magical. Your yellow dress is so pretty Kate and suits your sunny disposition. Thank you for your wonderful content 💛🤍

Love that you are enjoying your garden and not feeling overwhelmed, or at least trying not to be. Something to consider with any space is whether you wish to plant plants/flowers that will come back year after year, or ones that you wish to plant and change (like vegetables). It helps to consider when planning an area. For your area where you are considering tall, you could go with climbing roses, as these will give you (and anyone who follows you) year on year blooms. Otherwise, maybe try a mix of bulbs that will give you different colourful blooms at different times of year. I love the mystery of waiting to see what will pop up next. And a favourite, above the knee height that self seeds itself as time goes on is Four o'clock plants (Mirabilis jalapa). They are a late season bloomer, but bloom for a number of months. Wonderful pops of colour against bushy green foliage. (And yes agree with you about France 🙂The weather is a big part of why I have chosen to live here.)

Yay!!! Love the tablecloth! Spring is just barely going to emerge here in the mountains. Most of the snow has melted away on our property. My first big project will be to move my greenhouse over about 8ft. Not a small task but the sooner it's done the sooner I can get planting in it! As far as cleaners go I use the "Method" brand in either the lavender or bamboo scent but I also use my orange peeling soaked in vinegar for 2 weeks then straining and put into a spray bottle. Works great!! Maybe planting foxglove in front of your cottage?

I use vinegar as well. Put vinegar in a large jar with citrus peels. Let sit for 2 weeks. The peels absorb the vinegar smell and leaves the mixture with citrusy smell ❤️🇨🇦

Dear Kate, i live in the south of France and i assure you that the weather is not so nice ! In summer we can have more than 40° celsius and the lack of water is a real challenge. More than that, the tiger mosquitos hare very activ and painfull. It is tr ue that the temperatures are mild in winter, but the 4 or 5 months of heat wave are difficult to bear and very tiring. Kisses from France 😘

The best trick I’ve learned for removing smells from vintage textiles is to hang outside (preferably in the sun) and spray with vodka! It has worked for me when nothing else did

Oh my goodness, how lucky you are to be able to be out in your garden! We just had a winter storm on Wednesday which caused lots of trees to come down and over a million people to lose power in Eastern Ontario and Quebec! Ours finally came back today. I still have so much hard, icy snow outside my door that I'm ready to move to my own little Boho Cottage next door to you in the south of France! (Now that would really be something if you did that!) Well, spring will make it here some day...I hope! Thanks for this little vision of things to come. It does make me hopeful!

You sound like young me - issues with scent, working non stop to have things organized. But age has taught me to enjoy the process. Hosta are deer resistant and like the shade. I used to buy a product called "Scoot" which I'd spray on my plants. It leaves light spots but the deer don't like the taste. For your wall hanging smell, use lots of baking soda with a little detergent, soak long then wash as usual and dry outside. 👍

Same, about cleaning products and all that. I didn't realize they were probably causing a lot of my headaches. Now I use the vinegar and the like Bronner's Soap for laundry and can't stand chemical cleaning stuff. I like cleaning and doing the dishes and doing laundry if I'm working organic because it's graceful

The south of France (Mediterranean climate zone) is very similar to California. I live on an island in the Med (Cyprus) and the weather can be pretty cold in winter! We have a ski resort in the mountains... just saying 😊

We are alike in many ways. I like a clean home but not a fan of doing it. I'm learning cleanliness is next to Godliness. Work in progress I'am🤭Cleaning aisle now can almost send me into a full blown asthma attack. I had to quit using a lot of products. Clorox and Pine Sol are the only thing that I'll keep and doesn't bother me. I opt for more natural. I mix vinegar, water and Edens Garden cleaning blend essential oil. I use it everywhere. 😁🌷💗

You're such a talented person in so many ways, decorating, photography, baking, etc. I'm so grateful I found your channel on RU-vid fairly recetly. For me, watching your videos, is like a small calming vacation. Thank you so much, Kate, and I hope and pray you can and will continue to share your time with us. Oh, I love your wardrobe, too. It's a shame Charlie can't go out to play around in the garden while you are there. I live in the south of France, but in the southwest. Our winters are not freezing cold, except for a few days of frost maybe, but even here we have grey rainy days. I know when people think of the south of France they mean along the Mediterranean and the Provence, but it is very dry over there and blummin' expensive.

Penstemon and four o'clocks grow fairly tall and are deer-resistant. Dahlias are too. There are lovely taller varieties and so many wonderful colors. I'd have to build a fence if I lived in deer country...I love roses and hydrangea too much, and unfortunately so do they.

Your home and yard are so calming and peaceful. Can't wait to see what you plant, here in Ocala it is time to plant but my yard seems to be more sand than dirt so it is hard to find something that will grow here.

Whenever I am faced with a spot that has planting issues I fill up an existing pot or make a smallish raised bed with old weathered wood...fill with soil then plant the seeds. So if you did this you can plunk the raised bed or pot wherever you like...good luck.

Everything is coming along! I am puttering around the yard too. Planning and dreaming of the garden to be! Have you tried sparying Nature's Miracle on the fabric? It is for animal accidents, but with 3 kids I have found it neutralizes all smells! Try it!❤
