My husband said “why would you watch someone clean? What? A treehouse?” I said “this fabulous woman is comfort watching.” He looked at me like I was insane.
She's like the new Mr. Rogers. Calm and soothing. No hurries, no worries, just do your best and be happy with it. And spread love and kindness and acceptance wherever she goes.
I had this video playing and paused when our grandson came to visit today. He is just over 2 years old, and asked, "Who's that Grandma?" I said, "That's Kate!" He picked up my tablet, hugged it with a contented sigh, and said, "My Grandma, Kate". And kissed the screen. So, Our Dear Kate, you are now an honorary Grandma as well as an official one. Happy Mother's Day to all US members of the LHH community!
Sitting here on the Lime Green Sofa watching Kate clean and darn while I‘m folding my laundry and doing some mending of my own: What better way to spend a lovely Sunday evening? Have a lovely time everyone!
As I watched, I was thinking of a lovely warm summer day and a good book, lying on the bed. Don't think it would be long before it's be napping, too! 😄
Well, 'darn it'! So envious of your beautiful tree house. Your lime green sofa does stretch everywhere. It even reaches August Bank Holiday Island. It can be found between Easter Island and Christmas Island (ha ha). All the best.
I think your tree house is extra special. My grandfather darned his socks and actually he knit his own socks. He was a farmer with a horse and plow and 50 milking holstein cows. As children we would ride one of his old friendly cows. Your life is so endearing. Thank you. I look forward to your videos.. ps I live in Wisconsin, USA....
I keep coming back to this video. It's my way of doing armchair travels (ah, of course I mean limegreen sofa travels) Thank you so much for sharing, Kate. This tree house is the stuff of my daydreams 🥰🌻
Kate who made your lovely tree house I love the door and all the very cute things about it, I bet your kid loved it I can imagine them sleeping in it. Thank you for another great video. Xx
When I was at primary school, many many years ago, our teacher Miss Arnold would get us to knit beautiful squares of Navy or grey wool. Bright Wools were not available then. She would then cut a hole in our knitted square, and we would learn to darn the hole, I loved it then and I still love darning now , it was a great skill to learned , I've darned clothes, toys , car seats, you name it I've darned. Happy memories 💜
I'm 75 and I remember my mom darning socks and putting a used light umbrella inside for support....I'm sitting hee on the lime green couch on Canada's birthday ...July 1st
I forgot to add that I am in Georgia, USA. Been watching three years. My grandmother taught me to darn socks in the 60s. It was a sin to throw away something just because it had a hole.
I love hearing a hello to New Zealand. And the best thing about your videos is they are like spending some time chatting with a good friend. That’s something I don’t have the luxury of as my best friend/craft/art/sewing buddy is in England.
I managed to close the gate into the garden before she found it - that would have been a runaround and no mistake! ha ha! I'm waiting for 2 two things - a sunny day and someone to photograph the quilt before I can send it! ha ha! not managed both together! xxxx
@@thelasthomelyhouse That silly ol' goose! Her side eye looks crack me up. She's a mischievous one, that Battle Goode(tm) lol. And NO WORRIES on the quilt!!! I'm not even remotely upset or worried, hehe. Much like a wizard, the quilt shall happen precisely when it means to!! lol.
Hello Kate. I’m a Newby to your channel and am getting through your older posts. Thanks for sharing your Mum’s quilts with all of us on the line green sofa 🥰You asked how l discovered your site. l watch Missouri Star Quilts and Lori Holt and a few knitting channels. Your wonderful smiling face popped up and the name The Last Homely House was intriguing so l went exploring with you. Since then I watch you every day. I too have a lovely big garden, chickens and thanks to Eileen I’m also getting a goose. You inspired me to clean out and sort my fabric and gussy up my sewing loft. Please don’t ever change the format of your videos. They are enchanting. I hope you enjoy the sites l recommended. ❤️🌸🌺
Hi Kate and everyone! My first time on the LGS enjoying watching, listening and trying my hand at a micro mini quilt with a good beer by my feet. This is also my first time trying a micro mini and let’s just say it takes a good sense of humor to do it!
Bed In the tree house is what we did in our travel trailer. Over the water tanks. Very functional and comfortable. Enjoyed your video and glad you are feeling better 🥰
I’m with you about hair flopping around! I either whine at my niece (who used to be a hairdresser) and ask her for a cut, or I haul out my scissors and my old dog clippers and have a go myself...after all, it’s only hair! (I had chemo years ago and was bald for a while, so now I don’t really care - I don’t see it, so how I look is not really my problem!)
Yes Exactly, its only hair, years ago when my mum had her hair shaved off for chemo, rather then waiting for it to fall out, I did the same to mine, it made mum cry but it made her understand its only hair.
I have long hair - to the small of my back if I straighten the waves and curls (I don't use a straightener, just a brush) and am soooo ready to get it cut! When I was a child my mom got tired of trying to take my thick wavy/curly hair (I mean, I'm the youngest of 8 so I don't blame her) and she kept it cut short. Being a bit of a tomboy, I was asked more than once if I was "a boy or a girl" and got bullied a lot. I swore that as an adult I'd never have short hair... but I'm 51 now, I'm tired of all this hair and the literal headache of keeping it pulled back... I know it's only hair, but while I want it gone I'm also nervous about getting it cut. Perhaps I should go in stages - start at shoulder length and go shorter in bits? I admire the courage and strength of you ladies. Thank you for sharing your words. Be well. 💚
@@083purplecola When I was much younger my hair was very long and it although it was fairly fine, it was really thick, so I totally know about hair-induced headaches. As soon as I could, I got it cut off and kept it relatively short through high school. After that it was as short as I could get it apart from shaving my head.
And me in south africa. I can't wait for sunday evenings. We are an hour ahead of you so by the time you come on we have had dinner and cleaned up the kitchen I can watch with no interruptions. I love all you do creativeness and positiveness. Just what I need. See you next week.
Such a fun and fascinating tree house. Lovely bits of architectural pieces give a fairy tale quality. If only we could do all that cleaning in 30 minutes I believe I would clean more often. Thank you for bringing us along.
A dear lady from out sewing group passed..she asked us to distribute her sewing/craft things...10 of us divided up yarn, cross-stitch, embroidery and fabrics...it is amazing how many things we accumulate...I’m guilty also but this was an eye opener..I need to get busy. If your bed is In couch mode you may have more room to spin...we would all love a tree house
yes - I have thought the same - because I'll need to sit at the right height ..... hmmm Plan B ... also more space for baskets of fibre. May have to nap in the house after all? xxx enjoy your sewing projects! xx
My mother was a great darner. I remember as a teenager in the early seventies when tights were expensive she darned a run that must have been a foot long!! Somebody remarked and wondered what the scar was on my leg,😂. I had to darn for my family to keep clothes going and pass them from child to child as well for my husband with his service uniform. It is like patchwork, very satisfying. Love the curtains.
Kate, I really enjoyed seeing the inside of your tree house again. I was wishing I was there to help you. I love how you've painted it your green and pinks! I always enjoy seeing your new quilts hanging on the balcony and now I enjoyed the quilt "show and tell" of older ones. I have some my Mom made also. They are treasures! Thanks, as always, for sharing.
Watching you darn reminds me of my dear mother, who spent evenings daring the family's clothing while watching TV. I have inherited her thimbles but, sadly, not her darning skills.
You are a pleasure. And now a guilty one! My daughter traveled to celebrate Mother’s Day with me. She brought ingredients for a Duck a la Orange brunch, which she prepared to perfection. Midway the cooking I glanced at the clock, wondering if Kate had dropped her Sunday episode yet. Daughter and dessert are done, and I make a Beeline to the Green Couch. Guilty, but a pleasurable way to cap a lovely day.
Ms. Agnes, This little house would be a "she shed" for me.Also, my three grandsons would be very frequent visitors .Oh the fun we would have..Thank you so much for sharing..🌷🌷🌷💕💕💕💕
Monday morning here down under, husband's socks waiting to be mended and also off to hairdresser thismorning. Always get up early on a Monday to watch you Kate before the other inhabitants of the household begin to move. Just sipping my coffee, in my special arm chair thats attatched to the lime green sofa. Grey skies with only a small splash of orange at sunrise. Blessings from Australia.
Yesterday my cat Purl caught a squirrel 🐿 and brought it into my open door to my house. I tried to get them both outside, but instead the squirrel got loose in my house. Thankfully my son and his girlfriend caught the squirrel and relocated it to a nice tree outside. Cats 🐈 we do love them.
I had a cat catch a baby squirrel once! It took a bit for Thomas’s jaws to be dislodged from that poor squirrel. The squirrel escaped into a birdhouse, panic stricken! Thomas was taken inside! After a few hours, checking on baby squirrel every half hour, we discovered he’d left the bird house. So, Thomas was free to roam outside again. I’ve always had cats.
It's too bad you weren't able to video that mayhem! I'm sure that it would have been very funny to watch later. One of those " Do you remember?" Moments. Take care and I'm happy that the squirrel survived. Take care!
Lovely to see you again as always. Oh I LOVE your tree-house and could just imagine curling up there drowsily reading a good book. Agnes will love it and will remember her time spent there with you for always.
Hi Kate...you have there a truly magical little tree house fit for a fairy godmother! LOOOOOOVE the curtain rail supports......and the whimsical block printed curtains hung from them.
You are such a busy lady. Tree house is a dream for me. I’ve always wanted a tree house. At 62 if I had the trees I’d have a trees house built. 😍 Sadie found her mom.
Oh my gosh! I absolutely love the use of the old silverware used to hold the curtain poles and shelving. How cute is that! Thank you Kate for a lovely afternoon in the tree house. :)
There is a place where you can rest. Sleep the day away among the memories of colors and having done. Come sit. She'll tell you stories. Tea and comfort. So much more behind her words. The Majical Hippie Tree House East of the Sea. Thankyou😌
A big wave from Iowa, USA! I so enjoyed my time today on the lime green sofa with everyone. Happy Mothers Day to all that celebrate it today. Have a Wonderful week Kate and everyone!
Hi Kate , my fav things are my family , cheese & apple sandwiches but my most fav thing would be kindness & warmth and watching your videos has inspired me again - your clips are so beautiful & so inspiring it has renewed my love for simple things in life ; thank you for renewing my fav things as in this harsh world sometimes or often it is hard to remember qualifies our mums instilled in us ; kindness &. polite manners …. Thank you again 🌺🦋😀🍀
Hello Kate 🤚🏻 I don’t think I’ve ever seen your super quaint treehouse; love it! I can only imagine how magical the treehouse and grandma together is for little Agnus must be, how special! My mom was a costumer and she taught me how to hand stitch and it does take concentration so, I understand that talking and darning don’t blend well for me, either. Passing some pretzels down the LGS as others watch and enjoy your videos. Be well.🥰
I do hope you have had a nice cosy nap in the tree house since cleaning it and washing the bed sheets etc you certainly deserve to after all that work . At age 61 I know I would love having some Nanny naps in there ... I have six grandchildren now so sometimes a nice nap is needed 😊 Thankyou for this lovely vlog Kate x
I’m new here, and I love watching you share so many things. Thank you so much for explaining the LGS. I would love to live near you. I am in Ct. in the United States. I am so happy I found you. I have a dear friend that has introduced me to quilting, I feel like I can’t get enough new ideas, and techniques.
I have just found Kate...my mum taught me to sew too in the North of England.... I always have my sewing where ever I live in the world.. at the moment it's ILO Peru.. now I am part of your green sofa
😆 Watching Sadie's tail scooting around and seeing her whiskers peek in the camera... adorable and hilarious. 💗 Also- I LOVE that Indian fabric and the Spoon brackets are genius! Happy Mother's Day from America, Kate! 💖
Then we all must be insane. Kate’s calming voice and chatting away, just as though we are there on her sofa is what I need right now. I’m a subscriber and now a patron, too! I love it.
I love your mom’s pinwheel quilt. I would love to see it on the wall behind the sofa. It’s so bright and pretty. There’s something mysterious that captures my childhood heart about a tree house.
I am enjoying this so much, sitting here on my sofa in Norway. Thanks so much for another lovely video. Feeling inspired now to do some darning. I have a pile of pants, socks and cardigans I need to repair. Love seeing your cats popping by 🥰
Hi Kate, I’m watching this 2yrs too late. You just mentioned the folks in New Zealand are getting ready for autumn and that they will have snow in July. It reminded me of a saying in my husband’s family: “it snows but never in July.” It is a reference to when Krakatoa blew its stack back in the 18 hundreds and afterward it snowed in every month but July. Must have been awful - not much garden that year.
Thank you for all your wonderful videos. I have enjoyed them so much I am going back and watching them from the beginning. I told a friend today that you are living my dream. So maybe when I grow up "retire" I can be like you!!!
I agree with the comments made by others on the sofa! Everything about the little treehouse is magical! Thank you for inviting us in and sharing it with us.
Your treehouse is just the most charming place ever. It will be a great setup for your spinning wheel. Thank you for sharing a bit of heaven with us again.
Thank you Kate for showing us your tree house. What a wonderful place to sit and relax with a cup of tea and project you are working on. I love all your quilts and am happy you put all of them on your bed. The one your mom made is a very special keepsake! Yesterday was Mother’s Day in Canada! Specials memories! 💕
The tree house Collage is outstanding, upon given time to what is fabulous balancing the views outside the windows. Liked the way the spoons were cleverly crafted into position. ‘Mending is not my skills neither’. But it could be in the future, due to your presentation.
I love listening to you.it feels like it's just me and you. I can't believe you have never darned before.i was taught when I was little,a tradition past down through generations.i was taught to use a wooden mushroom. Taught to darn sicks. Your darning good.Glad your pleased.
'I don't hear the words darning and fun in the same sentence'....hahahahaha, I'm with you! But needs must and all that and, actually, once I start, I get quite into it. 😉 Such a lovely visit with you.......your tree house is such a wonderful little bolt-hole.....yes for a spinning/napping room! 😊
oh yes, now Agnes came come and play in the treehouse without fear of dust, dirt or spiders. All 3 of those quilts are pretty and I don't know any little girls who wouldn't just love them! It's past my bedtime; 10.26 pm Pacific time. It has been a lovely day and I got to see my 2 grands - although they are quite grown; 11 & 15 and both advance to the next age in September. Anyway, it was a super special day of visiting with my daughter, her husband and the kids of course. The younger one is acting in commercials and saving her money for things. She announced today that she wants to take an elective class called Social Justice and Leadership. I'm so proud. Have a lovely Monday, Kate. Goodnight from Southern California.
Hello Kate it's 8.35 am 10/5 Monday in Wellington NZ .Temp 17c rainy. whenever you mention the lime green couch, I often wonder how many of us are sitting there enjoying the tea ,biccies and chatting. What a lovely time I have connecting with fellow crafters. Thankyou so much for sharing your space with us xxcc
This treehouse is so lovely in every way, a dream retreat filled with love 💕. I've been hand sewing since things and your video came up, then you started darning! Lol love the green sofa time with you.
What an absolutely magical little house. The stuff of dreams. What little girl wouldn't want to play house in there? Though I suppose to be politically correct, I should say 'and boys'!!!! I do so enjoy your videos Kate. You are that rare person who seems to be totally at peace with herself.
Good morning Kate. I am still trying to catch up on your video. I am looking at a one from three years ago. You cleaning your treehouse. Wow does that remind me of me cleaning. I am 73 and getting down on floor to get things from underneath is a funny time for me also. Sometimes I just lay there and get my breathing right. But I love when I finish and it smells so clean and fresh. You probably keep thinking “ this is for Angus”. Have a wonderful day.
I received one of your lovely tea towels from my daughter for mother's day yesterday! I was so excited, it's to pretty to use! I may hang it up for display in my kitchen. We both adore you and your channel!💕
That was wonderful Kate. I hate darning...had to do it to get a darning badge when I was in the Brownies, eons ago. My sister, who doesn’t enjoy any craft apart from knitting, loves doing mending! Takes all kinds, as they say. I was wondering where your furry felines were, but then Sadie turned up. She has quite vicious claws😩 Love your treehouse. Reminds me of the little hut on a farm, where I went to Girl Guides. My group decorated the room with all little bits and pieces. We only went to Guides once a month, going to the leader’s farm on an old rail motor. We’d spend the whole day, doing all kinds of “Guide” things. Even digging our own latrine! You’ve rekindled so many memories, of when I was young and nimble and full of hope for the future. Thanks for your lovely chat today. ❤️🇦🇺
I am sitting here doing some sewing and watching and listening to you Kate. Even I think it's funny that I like to listen to someone talk about their darning and watch them clean but I have always loved watching others work. It is so relaxing.
Lovely video Kate! Agnes will have so much fun with you in the treehouse and I was excited to see your spinner going up into the treehouse. Take care everyone!
Love the tree house. I know I'm watching this a few yrs since it was filmed, but I kept hoping you were going to take the futon mattress and pillows outside for a good shake and some sun disinfection/sanitation. Growing up my mom made us haul out all the mattresses at least 3x a yr along with the feather filled pillows for some sun therapy after we had beat them (I'm sure we didn't make much of a dent on all the debri they attracted) We'd have to turn them after a few hrs. Now I vacuum them, but good memories of what my mom taught us. ❤
I remember having to darn my white socks. Hated it cause I couldn’t use a thimble... it kept falling off. Now I enjoy hand stitching. Love your secluded hideaway to enjoy the peace and quiet.
Your tree house is adorable! My granddaughter had a tree house her father built fir her. They moved from that house recently, but she had many hours of fun in the tree house. Be well. 😉
