After my daffodils and hyacinths yellow bloom, the purple iris and purple or white alliums start blooming. They are so pretty in my spring garden.

🤩I’ve never seen such Huge Columbine blooms! And looks like they are in full sun! I had one new variety show up this spring and the natural variety are really doing well. I’m trying a new one with variegated leaves this year. Ok-Poppies. The red poppies are taking over. Before I realized this I already planted 3 other kinds and even though they may be annuals they Readily reseed and seem to grow on the snow 😅. I wanted Lucille, Lauren’s Grape and Jimi’s Purple Haze that didn’t take last year. What have I created? 😅 I thought I thinned the poppies but not enough as all this rain has splayed and tipped various plants and some 9 wire is helping out. I had a Peony Bloom!! I tried for a decade to get previous owners to bloom and bought new ones 2 years ago and one bloomed!🎉🎉 I have soooo many new to me flowers I started inside this year-salvias, Veronica, Gomphrena, various snapdragons, Crapspedia, ice plant, cup & saucer and blackeyed Susan vines, sweet peas, more roses and many new varieties of old favs like hollyhocks in apricot and night watchman and a new rudbeckia in cherry. The plants are going nuts this year as we’ve had a terrific spring and out of drought👏🏼👏🏼 Although we had frost during plum bloom and lost fruit😫. I didn’t think the borage was reseeding like others said it would and all of a sudden they are Everywhere! I planted a few winter sow and thought I would throw in 3 old packs of Amish Cockscombs and to my surprise I had 3 VERY thick containers crammed full 😂. Then I threw in some seed that was near to dust that was laying in a tray in the GH. I sometimes am too busy and toss collected seeds I don’t want to lose in a dish. Well, they didn’t even look like seeds as it looked like powder-Super surprised as I recognized them right away-SPILANTHES! Chocked full in the WS container!🎉. So I will have plenty of Eyeballs 👀 watching me this year 😂 It’s been a warm winter, the Mock Orange is blooming 2 weeks ahead of normal, we’ve had 10” of rain the last 2 weeks and a lot of wind yesterday and today with a cool down and More rain tomorrow 🥴 I don’t want to complain about rain because the drought was bad, but when the bottom potato leaves turn yellow and others looking lime green 🫨. Have to stake things again today as this wind almost corkscrewed the asparagus out of the ground as a string broke on the line. Despite some trip ups in weather there have been some great returns like an artichoke and carnations overwintering and I’ll take it. Thanks for the info and love the flowers!

After the yellow of daffodils and hyacinths fade away….the purple iris and large alliums start blooming. I am lucky so far with continuing color in the spring.

Here in NJ, zone 7b, the peonies bloomed like crazy! This is the third week and I still have more blooms. I don't know the variety as they were a gift from a relative's garden. I do believe that deadheading is helping extend their season. Thanks for sharing your tips.

I have always planted impatients in my shady spots. I am trying dahlias from seed this year. So far, so good! I definately want to try peonies next year. I have also planted lupines, black eyed susans, and feverfew from seed for the first time. I did some winter sowing and got some sweet alyssum, marigolds, and cosmos. My usuals are impatients and zinnias, but I kinda went crazy with the seed ordering this past winter! There is something very satisfying to me about growing things from seed. I will keep that in mind that the lupines will want to take over--I read that about the black eyed susans and feverfew, too. We have a hill that is hit so hard with full sun all day and I just want some things for the birds and pollinators to enjoy that can tolerate heat and drought--and for me to enjoy and have them come back every year. The birds stay in our garden and bushes during the heat of the day, so my vision is that this will be a refuge for them. We are fortunate to live in a country setting in the city limits--we have an acre and really enjoy it and enjoy sharing it with nature. Take care!

Lupine are gorgeous but yes they took over my wildflower bed this year and choked out the other seedlings.

I've had a heck of a time trying to get poppies to grow! I've tried the sprinkle method three times now with three different varieties and had no luck. Now trying to limp along a couple plants started indoors 🤞

Well, that is frustrating. I'm not sure what to tell you. Maybe there's some type of critter munching on them (or the seedlings)?

@@SusansInTheGarden it sure is! I've wondered if the slugs get to them as soon as they germinate.
