I LOVE garden tours. A person could be like, "Look at my garden!" And show me a solitary carrot sprout in the ground, and I would be like,"You're crushing it! I love it!". Never feel self-conscious of your gardens, big or small, folks. You're doing great! Jaques: You're garden is EPIC

Once I finally get my green house built (still in the box several years later...) I'm going to put my greenstack in there and fill it with strawberries thanks to watching you! I've got a small basket of them that I fight the squirrels for even though it's got netting and hung off the ground about 4 feet - I love fresh strawberries and didn't know what to do until I saw you had them in your green house after you got it. Love the garden tour - thanks for sharing!!

I actually planted 3 sisters this year, and I've gotta say, it really depends on the bean. I planted all my seeds at once (time constraints and all) and some of my beans are being far outpaced by my corn, and some of my beans i can tell are going to need poles until the corn can catch up. And maybe it's my zone or my varieties, but my winter squash are moving very slowly. Corn is outpacing them with no problem.

✋ Love your channel, love your videos. It would be really helpful if you gave watering tips while wandering through your beds - like what kind of drip, for how long do they run, why you choose these over others, how many gpm and for how long ... AND as a bonus, how do you control gophers for the in ground beds? Thanks Jacques .... PS - I know there are countless videos that are stand-alone watering tips but showing how choice in action is really so much more revealing ... like I was trying to figure out on the first shot - are those sq ft gardening drip lines? are they 1/2" that you poked holes in or were they pre-drip like 1/4" .... why no specific emmiters if it's converted 1/2" - you see, besides the glory of the summer plants, there's all these questions about how to get there ....again, thank you Jacques! 💝
@jacquesinthegarden
@jacquesinthegarden 3 месяца назад
I pretty much use three different "lines" 1/2" supply line with no holes, 1/2" line with built in and pre-spaced emitters, and 1/4" lines with built in and pre-spaced emitters.

@gratiasgarden

I am sure you know this but figured I would say it anyways. I went to a nursery in the San Pasqual/Escondido area of San Diego a few months ago and spoke with who I think was the owner (very nice man) and asked him what chill hours means. In my brain, chill hours meant 32* or less and he said that it is actually around the 45* mark. For me, that makes a world of difference as here in SD, we don't typically see 32* and means we may be able to grow more things than we think. IE, I never knew I could grow hard neck garlic in our area because most things I saw said we were too warm but I grew it and was successful. Basically, being a gardener to me means experimenting with things and taking chances. If something works, sweet, do it again. If not, do it anyways! Kidding...Sort of!

@jacquesinthegarden
@jacquesinthegarden 3 месяца назад
Cutworms can be horribly discouraging. One thing I have done in the past is to shove a bunch of tiny twigs or sticks around the plant getting attacked. The idea is that they come up and bite the hard stick and then give up. Another option is place some foil around the seedling but either solution is honestly a lot of work. Transplanting is ok with corn if you want a backup plan!

Unreal. I love the variety you are able to sustain. Can you explain more about the tree roots you had to deal with - and what you did? I realize that was way not the focus of this video but it is a new issue for me and starting to get really annoying. Thank you!

Currently it is a temporary solution, just cut and remove roots. In the winter I plan on trenching the perimeter and installing a barrier.

Great garden! How do you prevent your dogs from eating the plants? Are there any plants that are toxic that you keep your dogs away from?
@jacquesinthegarden
@jacquesinthegarden 3 месяца назад
They are mostly uninterested except for grass. There are for sure plants that are toxic such as Lupine, grapes, or weirdly jicama

Your garden looks amazing. Are you having much pest invasion this year? In south Texas (zone 10a) we are having horrible pests - army worms, bag worms, snails, leaf footed bugs. I try to be organic but I've lost four tomato plants already. What do you use?
@jacquesinthegarden
@jacquesinthegarden 3 месяца назад
So far it has been surprisingly relaxed on pests. Leaf footed bugs are my least favorite and I would just go around and hand pick or prune them. I tried diatomaceous earth but they didn't seem to care/

Your garden looks amazing! Year 2 gardener- hoping my peppers are better this year! I had the smallest most sad looking bell peppers ever! Any recs for fertilizing for peppers? I live in a costal-ish town, and it’s a bit humid here, so you think that is part of the issue?
@jacquesinthegarden

Coastal peppers do grow much slower, any organic based fertilizer should do just fine!

What kind of drip are you using in the ground? The grid? Thank you!

Mostly just standard drip tubing either 1/4" or 1/2" preferably with 6" spaced emitters.

Your garden looks amazing. What’s your average soil temp in spring? My second year gardening and realizing my tomatoes will just be hitting their stride (hopefully) when you’re tearing yours out. Don’t see many gardens around here. Maybe there’s a reason?

Jacques, you called your giant sunflower a 'branching' sunflower, is that different from the other giants? my experience in growing them is one huge stalk with one, maybe two flowers on top. Can you tell me the variety you planted or did you pinch off the main stem once or twice? Thanks
@jacquesinthegarden
@jacquesinthegarden 3 месяца назад
Some types of sunflowers will just simply grow one flower and that is it regardless of size. Others are called branching because they will produce multiple branches on their own each with flowers! I always gravitate towards the branching ones because you a) get more blooms and b) they bloom over a long period of time!

@@jacquesinthegarden I found a blog on the botanical interest site that identifies some of the varieties that are branching, vs single stem

It can be a challenge without physical barriers. Either hardware cloth, mesh, or whatever you have on hand.
