Thanks for sharing your plans and inspo with us! As a fellow sweaty girl, I highly recommend knit summer tops (particularly if the garment flows and doesn’t dig tightly around the armpit). If you use natural plant fibers or blends of animal+plant fibers without nylon and air out between wears, you can surprisingly get a lot of wear out of them. I’ll be using silk for the first time soon to knit my third Ranunculus. I also love the Rift Tee and Anker’s Summer Shirt (which I agree you could hack). I have plans to knit a few sleeveless tops, too. Summer yarn recs: Mojave by Kelbourne Woolens, Line by Sandes Garn, and Kakigori by Noro
"Swampy Hellscape!" I laughed. I love DC, and am spending my birthday there this year,m60th, and I'm happy it's in December. I'm in Michigan, so it's colder here.
Hi! I choked on my Coke Zero when you referred to WDC weather as 'swampy'! Your so right! Lived in MD for 40 years and now I'm next door in Delaware choking on the humidity for the last three years. I'm excited to check out Terrapin Yarns! Love the idea of your knitted dress-one thought was to line it in silk if worried about structure compromise over time. There are so many cute tee shirt patterns on Ravelry. I am knitting the Ripple Top by JMD and maybe a tank in a linen yarn. Great plans and happy summer!
I love that you want to knit a cami dress - I feel like you will look fabulous in one! I’ve knitted a couple dresses (both with acrylic, which 0/10 do not recommend), but the biggest thing about knitting a dress that you need to be careful about is the length because the weight of the skirt will always pull it down longer. Both of the skirts I knitted had slim bodices and full skirts, which were connected by binding off the bodice and then picking up and knitting the skirt. With both dresses I learned that I had to knit less bodice length than normal because the weight of the skirt pulled it longer. For the patterns you’re looking at, the straps would be something to keep an eye on because you might not need to make them as long as you would if you were making just a tank. Also, when it comes to warm-weather yarn, I’m a fan of linen - it’s a little rough to knit with, but the more you handle it and wear it, the softer it gets. Good luck with your dress! 😊
I want to knit a dress too! And the idea of a Cumulus dress is very tempting. Sandnes Garn has a knitted dress pattern in one of their last booklets using Line and looks amazing as well. You should check it out! Love your videos by the way, you inspire me a lot! ❤
Hi fellow DC knitter, I got inspo from taking a long walk to Michael’s in Chevy Chase this week. I normally don’t love cotton yarn but saw and felt Patons Grace and can’t wait to try it. It silky mercerized cotton, heavy fingering weight and available in a better color selection online at either Michael’s or Joann. I know you said you didn’t want too many fingering weight projects but I find the DK weight ones too heavy in DC summers unless knit on a very loose guage like the Ranunculous. Also, while I like KFO cotton merino, I think the pure silk is very hard to knit with- much too hard on the hands for a dress. Another great summer yarn is KnitPicks Lindy Chain. Also fingering but very nice. Top of my spring list is the Florencia pullover.
Love to see your knitting plans! I have so many plans, for myself but mainly for others. So much to knit, so little time 😅 I hacked the Anker tee the other way around! Got myself the Anker tee pattern, knitted it, loved it, and hacked it into a sweater!
Thank you for sharing those plans! I looove the idea of a cumulus dress. So excited for spring knitting, it's my first spring/summer as a knitter and I can't wait to try out all those more summery yarns.
I made a blush pink anker tee last year and absolutely love it! It’s so basic yet elevated and goes with everything honestly. But I feel you in branching out 😅
ahh congrats on cami no. 5!! I'm more of a beginner knitter so I have been having trouble wrapping my brain around the double knitting edges for the arms
@@kris7893 they’re on Kimmie Munkholm’s channel and titled “Dobbeltstrikkede kanter i ærmegab” for how to start the double knit, and “Sammensyning af dobbeltstrik” for how to seam the edges when you’re done. Even though they’re not in English I found the visuals to be incredibly helpful & clear!
I am knitting a silk dress using a free pattern (summer dress with round yoke from ABC knitting patterns) I altered to suit my needs. The yarn is discontinued Berroco Mantra Stonewash. It is a slog but I find the yarn very enjoyable to work with to that keeps me going. I switch between a bulkier project and the dress so I don't burn out. I personally would find it hard to do just stockinette and would suggest thinking about adding a lace element here and there or some kind of textured stitch. I chose to make the skirt of mine in ribbed stitch.
Great video 😊 MELIDES dress by vertkntit is a lovely pattern that I myself want to knit for this summer! It has more structure than both dresses you metioned and the original yarn used is knitting for Olive Pure silk 😊
I’m also wanting to knit a dress This spring/summer. I’ve never made my own pattern but I’ve got the prettiest noro yarn that I feel I have to use right so I might have to make the pattern myself😅 also, I’m a fellow DC knitter and I wanna say fibre space in Alexandria has knitting for olive in store if you don’t want to buy online!
Hi! I also will try a dress... OMG... I decide to go for ALLGOOD DRESS (Knitonomy) ... started and I've bough an italian yarn ( I'm from italy) Solo Lino from Linea pura of Lana grossa in color 060... with me luck!
The cattail silk from purl soho is closer to a light fingering or lace weight. Its thinner then pure silk I knit vertknit’s melides dress and liked it a lot. She does here in pure silk. I did mine in hobbiis dahlia mixo and found it didnt grow much. The nice thing about the dress is that theres lots of instructions and customizations to get the shape/size you want. And i think its a lot more flattering then the cumulus dress design
I made the Anker tee last year and like it a lot. There is one problem with the fit that bothers me and that is there are no short rows for the back neck and I feel like I always have to pull it down in the front. I’m not sure if it would be possible to add short rows to this pattern but other than that, this tee fits very well. If there is a solution I would love to hear it.
I'm so glad I found you! Immediately subscribed to follow your fun and bubbly content. :) If you don't mind, would you please share the website that you are creating your art panels from? Thank you!
In 60 years of knitting I’ve knitted two dresses and both were a disaster. The first I wore to the theatre and it "seated" with my sitting in it. No amount of steaming got it back into shape. My 2nd dress I wore a slip under it at all times but after a short car journey it too took on the shape of my bum. If you find a solution to this problem please share otherwise never sit in a knitted dress - handmade or commercial. 😂
Hey, there! Fun to find you. My fave summer top is the Kuutar Top by Sar Nordlund, and right now I'm planning to make the Rift in merino/cotton, then the Drifting Waves Tee in silk. I'll be following from Spain @lamanchaknitter
Anyone know what pattern the jumper she is wearing in the video is? I saw someone wearing one on a TV show with this pattern and really want to make one similar. New to the channel so haven't seen if it came up in a previous video
