I picked up a Cotton Cordell lipless crankbait and hit some ponds. Spring bank fishing is a lot of fun and you don't need a ton of gear to enjoy the day. I was able to connect with a few good fish before the storm hit. Thanks for watching feeshin friends!

If it's spring and bass , when you roll outta bed... Fish any color you like, as long as it's red! Lots of bass fisher types add mono leaders of various lengths to their braid lines... for contained stretch. Helps them from making bass all religious...holey... lol. Give that a go before you dump the braid. Braid is great especially when we're fond of frog or punch fishing... helps pull those monsters out and away from trees/ bushes... Great video... love the bank fishing.
@DEBOSFishing
@DEBOSFishing 5 лет назад
Couldn't agree more man. I really only add a leader to braid for topwater poppers or walking baits. I've messed with it in other situations and I'm just not a fan on lures that I'm casting. I know a lot of guys who swear by it. All just a personal preference thing. You got that right about the red, it has been doing work!
@manrod4871
@manrod4871 5 лет назад
I've learned something new today then. The only reason why I love mono leader is because of the friction resistance. I didn't know about the "holey" fishes. Anyway thanks to lot guys. You have a nice channel. Keep it that way

Hey Debo, thanks for the conversation about red lures a few videos back. I appreciated the dialogue. I am really excited to toss the red lipless crankbaits I bought over the winter. You are convincing me that my "investment" in red lures will pay off. Guys, I have no affiliation with WalMart (in fact I'm a big pro union guy) but check around your local WalMart for boxes of discounted lures called "Bait Bonanza." If you are lucky you can find a nice assortment of Cotton Cordell Super Spots, in colors such as Red Craw, in both the 1/4 oz. and 1/2 oz. sizes. You can hopefully also find some Cotton Cordell Big O Squarebills and some Cotton Cordell C.C. Rattlin' Shads. Best of all the price per lure is $1.99!!! If you find a "Bait Bonanza" box count your blessings and STOCK UP!!!!

Funny , years ago (20-25 yrs) everyone was throwing lipless cranks . A red rat-l-trap was a go to bait . Fished them all the time but for some reason they just got forgotten or replaced by the new latest and greatest bait . Lipless cranks are a solid fish catching bait that should be in everyone’s arsenal. Another great vid !

Matt and Tim (Tactical Bassin) recommend mono if you're ripping a lipless out of grass because of the stretch it allows the bait to slowly accelerate away from the grass which gives the bass time to grab it unlike with straight braid which will pull it away way to fast when ripping it
@DEBOSFishing
@DEBOSFishing 5 лет назад

I fish medium-heavy rods with braid, my rods have a soft tip and I fish lighter 30-35 lb braid. I like lighter wire trebles and don't try to over power the fish, I've never cought a fish and found holes in their mouth like that. Not sure what part of my set up helps that but I would recommend trying lighter braid (maybe even a leader to give a little stretch) and a soft tip, possibly even lighter wire hooks. Again I'm far from a professional and I'm not saying anyone is wrong for fishing like that but it works for me if you want to give it a try.
@DEBOSFishing
@DEBOSFishing 5 лет назад
No you're completely right. I advise the same things you stated. Softer rod, line with stretch, lighter wire hooks. I've just had a lot of folks say "try this" and I did to show why I normally don't use a setup like that for trebel hooks. Thanks for the comment and feedback man, always appreciate hearing how others do it. I'm no pro either brother 👊

I am pleasantly surprised at the success I've been having on a lipless crankbait, I lost my red ones to snags last year, and when I went to replace that color, the store was out! So I picked up a couple of shad color schemed Strike Kings, and they have been working just fine, even caught a 3lb 5oz Snakehead on it. I do have on 30lb test braid, but on a medium rod, and I haven't noticed holes being ripped in my catches, perhaps the medium power works well with that braid, but I also am not setting the hook extra hard like I would for frog fishing.

Just a question. When bass get holes torn in them like on this video, do they heal up, or are the holes there forever? Great videos, keep up the great work!

How is that revo holding up? Do you believe fishing is better or worse after a rain storm?
@DEBOSFishing
@DEBOSFishing 5 лет назад
I'm actually really liking the revo x. I'll have a review soon. I've seen it go both ways. Before and during can be killer. If it stays gloomy, I usually have luck. If it passes and it's bright sun no clouds, can be a rough day...

I only use braid. Mono isn’t worth the lost fish.

Does it get any more text book than a red colored bait, especially a lipless, in the early spring?
@DEBOSFishing
@DEBOSFishing 5 лет назад
It's definitely a bait that works. I wrote off the whole red thing for a long time. It gets munched!

Maybe loosen your drag some to let em run a little n that will help w tearing the fish up.
@DEBOSFishing
@DEBOSFishing 5 лет назад
Yea, I definitely could have turned it down more. All of the fish I hooked pulled a little drag. Some more than others. I honestly don't fish straight braid on non topwater lures and I'm use to tightening my drag all the way down. Thanks for watching man!

@manrod4871
@manrod4871 5 лет назад
Nice video. One question. Do you tie the lure directly to the braid, without monofilament leader?
@DEBOSFishing
@DEBOSFishing 5 лет назад
On this setup I did. I tie a mono leader for topwater spooks or popper. It helps keep the hooks from getting caught in the braid.
@phdyoutubedegree1939
@phdyoutubedegree1939 4 года назад
since you moved to braid does the color of braid going to make a big difference.? Just asking since i am using yellow braid should i even bother tying a crankbait on the end with that color.? what about if i tie a small flouro leader?
@DEBOSFishing
@DEBOSFishing 4 года назад
If it's really dirty/ muddy water, I use natural colored braid and don't tie a leader. If it's clearer water, I'd use a leader.

@@DEBOSFishing now is stained the same as dirty muddy water.? May be a newb question because I am a newb. Lol
@DEBOSFishing
@DEBOSFishing 4 года назад
@@phdyoutubedegree1939 nope. Stained would be clarity of a few feet. Muddy is very low visibility. Say less that a 8" or so of visibility.

When i try to fish the bank with a lipples crank-bait i always get snagged and hung up... How do you avoid that???
@DEBOSFishing
@DEBOSFishing 5 лет назад
Try to keep them away from wood. They don't do well with wood. Rocks you can bounce them off of. Vegetation just give it a quick stiff POP and it should come free. If you keep sinking too fast and going to the bottom, drop down to a lighter weight. Hope this helps!

Hey Debo, or anyone; what do you suggest for fishing shallow lakes/reservoirs? I've been using a wacky rig worm and it works here and there. But since it's only maybe 10ft max( this reservoir has problems with being low) I catch a lot of algae and vegetation. Any way to fix this issue, should I just go with a weedless setup?

Swim jigs are great, pitching Texas rigs around visible cover, belly weighted paddle tails. All good options man!

When fishing for bass do you need a leader or just straight main line to lure ??
@GoatyHerps
@GoatyHerps 5 лет назад
You'll get a billion different opinions on this topic. I personally only use straight braid for frogs and other topwater, and straight mono for everything else. Just remember: Man has been catching fish for thousands of years before all of this fancy crap was thought of.
@DEBOSFishing
@DEBOSFishing 5 лет назад
