I allowed my rabbit free range of the garden over the winter. He ate the perennial herbs AND grubs. I kept trying to find out if bunnies eat bugs but everything that I've read said only by accident. He actively dug them up for a snack.
Yes rabbits do eat "meat" occasionally. I have had rabbits since I was 16 and now I'm 45 . The rabbits that live in your home as pets don't have access to any kind of bugs really but the rabbits you house outside will dig them up and eat them . My Flemish giants will do this alot . Its nothing to worry about but you.might want to check the nutrition of the food your feeding them , they may be lacking in a vitamin or nutrients that the bugs larve provides to them. Animals know how to regulate their diets to get all the nutrients when they live outdoors.
Nice harvest! I think the early warm weather is causing a boom in insect activity. I’m seeing baby grasshoppers on a lot of my plants and I got hit in the face by a 3” adult grasshopper the other day 😂 I’ve got grubs in all of my raised beds, compost bin, and lawn. I hope the nematodes work for you. 💚
So next year, maybe move your potatoes to a different location but also when you’re recommending it dig through it I mean you’re gonna have to probably fill it up by hand so you can see if you have any in there
Nice harvest. Cardboard is actually posionous to water, food and human. Although it is made of wood it is always made with forever chemicals and is toxic to soil. I research brown bags/ cardboard same thing. It also attracts a lot of pests. Where as not using those materials help prevent those issue. Just some info. I use buckets, raised beds with fabric cloth. No issues other than usually norm. Hope that helps.😊
Them potatoes look good they’re gonna be Del I just pulled my red potatoes out and I think I had the same problem but on another bed, I just planted a whole bunch of fingerlings. I’m looking forward into those.
Here in NW Florida, my potatoes are dying back prematurely. I think it got too hot too soon. It also looks like your spuds could have used a drink of water.
Could the rabbit poop have encouraged the grubs? I have one more month before harvesting my potatoes. I had better check mine, though I didn't use rabbit poop.
The grubs are eating the roots that’s why they are dying back. I hate that you have so many pest issues all the time😩 grubs creep me OUTTTTTTT I feed them to my Cardinals by my bird feeder
