PS: Some thyroid nodules can be heavily calcified at their edges, referred to as eggshell nodules. On ultrasound, these nodules have a very bright surface that casts an acoustic shadow. Generally, this appearance of a nodule indicates that it is non-cancerous. However, if the calcification rim is disrupted or the nodule has a peripheral halo, it is more likely to be malignant.
