Today I am reviewing the intriguing Campbeltown Loch Blended Malt Scotch Whisky. Campbeltown Loch Blended Malt Scotch Whisky is a blend made by the Springbank distillery which is a vatting of 5 different Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whiskies. These 5 Scotch malts blended together in this bottle are Springbank, Longrow, Hazelburn, Kilkerran and Glen Scotia. The blending and bottling is done on site at the Springbank Distillery. This Blended Malt Scotch Whisky is Non Chill-filtered, natural colour, bottled at 46% and matured in 60% Ex-Bourbon Casks, 40% Sherry Casks. Can this Blended Malt step in and bridge the gap that is left when the Springbank 10 is all gone and is it worth a purchase? Thanks for watching, Cheers.

Tasting it now and comparing it to Talisker Distiller's Edition. While both are slightly peated and around 92 proof, Loch wins on overall complexity, nose, arrival, development, and finish for sure, . ANd it's much cheaper than Talisker. I'm going to grab another bottle tomorrrow.

That is a major win for Campbeltown Loch! Talisker D.E. Is no slouch. But this Blended Malt is a real performer. Glad you can purchase it where you are. Hoping to get myself a bottle one day too. Cheers Johnny 🥃

Great notes! This bottle is top of my list to grab when I go across the boarder later this year. Cheers, Matt!

Understandably. It's bringing campbletown funk back to the masses at a fair price and with availability. Really needed it while SB10 was so hard to acquire. I would import a bottle from RMW but with shipping and import the value proposition just is gone. Hope you find one south of the 49th. Cheers Sheldon 🥃

I bought two bottle of this today as I got them in a deal with a bottle of Springbank 15. They’re currently sitting in the back of the car as my wife will go mental if I come in with three new bottles! Ha.

Haha! Those are important tactical consideration James, a trio of new bottles may lead to a series of questions no one wants answered. Bringing home 2 bottles of Campbeltown Loch along with a Springbank 15 honestly sounds like a tidy bit of business. Cheers 🥃

I got this bottle, really enjoying it. I got this for 85 US with shipping. I normally have to order my scotches. Gave this a 4.8/5. Nose: oily, bring, smoked tar, Vanilla, dark chocolate orange. Almond cookie, apricot Taste: honey, malt, sea salt, black pepper, Carmel toffee, oak spice, melon, Finish: ginger, nutmeg, oak cakes, smokey oak. Unsweetened vanilla.

Quick thought too for the price in the US online because many local places around here don't carry springbank. It is a good deal for me. My bottle has been open for little longer than a month and felt it change for the better. It is hard to find a Springbank. I mean I can find the 30 year old but I don't got the money for it. 10 is a good deal, but as you climb up price does matter for me. I have an older 15, I got in 2018 or 17 I believe I have yet open. I saw a Springbank 12 cask strength, telling you price is bad. I saw anywhere between 180-500 dollars. For the price and the quality can't go wrong. People have there own views I totally respect it. Everyone's taste buds are different and what we eat can affect it. Seasonal allergies can affect the experience as well. Everyone's budget is different. There are years things are tight and others it is plentiful. Prices have gone up and quality for from some brands as gone down.

What a fantastic and thoughtful response. Your tasting notes on this one are great! And it's obvious you've really enjoyed it. Like I said I'm eager to pick up a full bottle of this one, so it seems we're in agreement that it is a worthy purchase. Cynical prices push us to look for more and, thankfully, Springbank was able to provide an economical alternative at such a time. Sorry to hear of the markups in your area on bottles like SB12. I think this is shaping up to be the year of the Blended Malt/Scotch. So much innovation in that sector in the last few years seems to be reaching a crescendo. A picture perfect time to bring back the Campbeltown Loch. Cheers 🥃

Very interesting! I really want to try this. There is a blended scotch called Trademark X from James Eadie which supposedly contains some Campbeltown malt. I did try a sample and thought it was great value, it even reminded me a bit of Kilkerran 12... Thanks for the review!

Nice review. The June 2023 batch just dropped locally (it's really dark!), $61 usd. I need to grab 1. My special blend ingredient would have to be Kilkerran 8 CS 57.1% 😂😂😂 By the way... Jeremy (SSC) really is your cousin right!? 😂

It's really a very fair price for what it is, isn't it? And yes! More KK 8CS please! Speaking of, that's actually one of the few I've yet to get my hands on ad I own the 12, 16 and Heavily Peated. I did try a glass in Edinburgh and I definitely understood why people rave about it. Jeremy's cousin 😅🤣 not to ky knowledge and I'll take it as a compliment. There must be some resemblance because it has come up a few times lol. Cheers 🥃

Glad you've been able to drink along woth these batches, and at such a good price point! I think that was really the thinking behind it. Make something to fill that gap, less expensive that SB10, and not necessarily as hot a commodity. Sadly it sold for about the same price as SB10 in my market and immediately sold out. I can potentially order from the U.K. though where prices are still good. Cheers DonnerPass, good to have you here 🥃

Great video Matt and I bet you had fun blending your Campbeltown Loch :) The thing with blends is that they need some time for the flavours to integrate with each other so maybe if you do a 10ml bottle and try it a month later, it might be better than the OG Campbeltown Loch. That's an interesting question you asked as well so off the top of my head, I will let Hazelburn go and either add Local Barley or Glen Scotia 14 Tawny Port. Cheers my friend 🥃
@whiskyonthewestcoast
@whiskyonthewestcoast Год назад
Yeah blends, including the professional ones, need a lot of time to marry and come together. Once I get a full bottle I plan on blending my own Campbeltown Blended Malt to hopefully rival it. Should be a fun project one day. I heard that GS Tawny Port 14 was fantastic! Great choice as well as the local barley. Cheers man 🥃

Great take on the Campeltown Loch blended malt Matt. Being a blend you would expect a bigger production and a larger distribution but therein lies the problem with everything Campbeltown. They are just hard to find. Maybe one of the compass box offerings with a light peat would be a close comparison?
@whiskyonthewestcoast
@whiskyonthewestcoast Год назад
Thanks Roit! Compass Box would bring stiff competition I'm sure. And yeah, it is a shame that they can't get the production of this higher without eating into the future single malt releases too. Can't wait for those new Campbeltown Distilleries like Dal Riata to open. Cheers 🥃

Interesting question, Matt....I have to work on that question of "BYO CL", though I did do some trials a few years ago with at least 3 of those, but not with all those five but indeed some limited releases, so yeah I'll probably withdraw the peated GS for an unpeated version & use several ages of Springbank/H/L, so not 5 cask types/styles only, to name a few tricks.....I still have a bit of that blended scotch early version, like I think I've mentioned to you before...I alas haven't been able to predict shortage of the 21 yo version of the Campbeltown Loch (blended scotch) that I tried a couple of times in the past, otherwise I'd bought a case lol, it was very good....I tried that current nas release last year (so probably same batch as yours or close) & liked it, but it is different of course from the previous blended scotch...which was way less peated & less funky (more grain driven, but beautiful grain). Good to see you did your own, but I doubt that the proportions are equal, and that they used a 15 yo GS, but I might be wrong...but, go ahead, because, "blending is learning" in my experience ! Slainte !
@whiskyonthewestcoast
@whiskyonthewestcoast Год назад
Yeah, I would doubt Glen Scotia 15 year being added into it or any malt of an age as significant as that in the Loch Malt. I picked that one as it is at least 46% along with the rest so it was a simple way to keep the improvised blend at 46%. When I do get a bottle of C-Town Loch I'd love to spend some real time dialing in my own BYO LC as you so succinctly put it. I love that you have such a background and enjoyment of blending. I do anticipate learning alot through blending as I'll make plenty of mistakes and hopefully learn from them too! And if only we had all foreseen the impending shortages it would have ran dry on shelves much quicker! haha Cheers 🥃
@GregsWhiskyGuide
@GregsWhiskyGuide Год назад
@@whiskyonthewestcoast Learning about everything includes mistakes for sure....Forgot to mention there were also 15 yo, 25 yo and 30 yo versions of that C.L. (I haven't tasted em all, mind you, but several batches of those 21 yo, at 40 or 46 % & they were great whiskies imho).

Interesting to know the % of each single malt in the blend? 35 pounds sounds like a bargain, but I have seen mixed reviews.
@whiskyonthewestcoast
@whiskyonthewestcoast Год назад
Yeah a Compass box style breakdown showing the composition and a age/cask type breakdown would be great. I'm going to guess the mixed reviews may be down to batch variation as I've seen huge differences between bottles. Cheers 🥃

@whiskyonthewestcoast
@whiskyonthewestcoast Год назад
Yeah, I'm sure the average age of Campbeltown Loch is not over 10 years like my blend was. If it was they likely would have put that on a label. It's a shame the bottles are so hard to replace. Still, gotta have fun with it. Cheers 🥃

These are $80 in Az at the big box liquor store….is worth it at that price? Given other age statements around that same price….
@whiskyonthewestcoast
@whiskyonthewestcoast Год назад
$80USD is quite a bit for it. That's more than I pay for Springbank 10 year, when I can get it. Key is "when" I get can get it. I would feel more comfortable at about $65-70. Above that price point I think the market space might be just a bit too competitive for C-Loch to remain sustainable. Good luck with the whisky hunt! Cheers 🥃

I drove from Oregon to Washington to buy this bottle. Washington State has sale taxes, so $89.99 plus taxes brought the total price to just above $100. It’s a lot of money but I don’t regret it. I don’t think I’ll buy another one anytime soon, but Springbank 10 is impossible to find , and I just tried this one tonight and even though it was just the neck pour, it is absolutely lovely!
