Rassie Erasmus has beaten his opponents to the punch this week, naming his side to play Ireland on Tuesday lunchtime. NO changes to the 23. My thoughts on the selection...let me know yours in the comments.
You are now a celebrated and honorary South African, Tim. I live for this rugby content. On behalf of all Saffas, thanks for celebrating our beautiful country and our love for the game! 🇿🇦
FYI - Siya Kolisi's full name is Siyamthanda Kolisi. Siyamthanda means "We love him" in IsiZulu, IsiXhosa and IsiNdebele. Has anyone been better named?
The one player I am consistently proud of is Jesse Kriel (and I'm an Englishman). The guy has taken stick pretty much from his first cap. Look at him now! A mainstay at 13 and proving that he's not only a great Springbok but a world class centre. Brilliant 👍
@@ritzemaritzema-xo4dz I guess you wouldn't care less about the critics if you looked like that :-) Still, deserves all the plaudits for proving that he is world class.
@@k0bra3eak40Difference is if you born in Durban we use to the heat and humidity. So any drop in temp we going to feel it . When Jozi people come down they like whooo so warm while we feeling cold. 😂
@@JuicyJLee Yeah, I live in JHB my whole life, then moved to Durban 3 years ago. What a lovely change of weather. Now in Aus and I'm back to freezing my balls off.
You're spot on, Tim. And you're a good man. You're always welcome by us all, from coast to coast here in our beloved land. Rassie is showing again his masterful strategies. His leadership brings everyone's talents together, on and off the field. It's why regardless, the team and the country will support him, the coaches, the squad and the unseen staff - no matter what. You said it, we're evolving. We are humble enough know what we need to do better,, and we're tuff enuff to get it done. Building, always building. Can't wait for Saturday. The Irish are massively talented, and cannot be under estimated. We'll always respect them. Enjoy the game!
I thought that Rassie may just play Roos above Kwagga, but understand the thinking of going with the same starting XV. Also, thanks Tim for all the praises of our country and its beautiful people .
Bernard Jackman quoted these stats on a recent show as an indication of how the Springboks are evolving under Tony Brown (measured by the number of passes per match) RWC v France: 82 RWC v England: 67 RWC v NZ: 84 V Wales: 119 V Ireland: 175
Well mate, you're going to be loved in South Africa forever for the respect and love you've shown our country. There are a lot of things you can say about us, many of them unsavoury, but we are loyal to a fault and we don't forget.
It's been a complete whitewash to hoover up eyeballs and you boys are hoovering it up like you have never had your tummies tickled before. Well played, Tim
People around the world know how awesome you guys are so don't worry about the cliches. Literally every South African I have met in the UK (a special breed unto themselves I'm sure 😉) have been brilliant people. Would love to visit your country at least once in my life, looks staggeringly beautiful.
@@EdLo3You are most welcome! It will only get better for our country and the future is looking sparkling bright as the dark is slowly fading in the distance..❤
@@FR-je9bw To be honest with you, for the part of 30 plus plus years most media outlets have shown the world a total misguided picture of who us as South Africans really are..they might have made us unpopular around the world but our true spirit can never ever be broken. Daily we have to fight a little bit harder for a living and it did not break us but made as even stronger together..Tim is having the guts to come here and find out for himself and we will always be greatful to him for that. As we say 'hulle weet nie wat ons weet nie" goes much deeper than just a rugby game...Tim is starting to understand this I think..come and visit us and see for yourself.❤ Baie dankie, Tim.
As you're finding out, Tim, you don't need to be able to speak Afrikaans, but having the courtesy of pronouncing Afrikaans names properly is important. I learned that early on. It does take a bit of practice, but you got it.
Rassie is playing mind games. I agree with Tim, we will never go away from our DNA and we are building on top of that. The first game was all in on this style to see how we can play, and now we go back to our DNA with the added attack ontop of it. If the boys can gel this could be a manslaughter of a game. 15+ points. Imagine being able to shift between styles when ever you want to, the opponent would be scrambling!
Great work Tim! Best rugby channel and podcast out there. I'd prefer to see Roos start at 8 especially with the way SA play and pass in the wide channel now and then have Kwagga come on at 45 minutes to be that Tasmanian Devil jackling at the breakdown. Id also keep Mostert on for the full 80a and only bring on 1 lock off the bench. I sure enjoy watching the Boks
As an Irish fan your show is amazing, no bias whatsoever call it as you see it , surely South Africa has to get another world cup soon the country is amazing and would give me a great excuse to visit that wonderful country
Tim as a South African living in Kent, you are lucky with the weather in Durbs... Its pissing down here... Enjoy the weather and Durban... Great selection by Rassie again. Would be interesting to see what the Irish team will be like as i have read there are a lot of injuries in their squad. If you going to have some red wine tonight at the hotel, Try Chocolate Block from Boekenhoutskloof.
Greatest Rugby analysis on the internet! Thank you Tim!! Looking forward to one day rubbing shoulders with you Tim, maybe a pint or two as well. Cheers from Canada.
Interesting take Tim and great to see that you're having a brilliant time in SA. I was also interested to hear Keo & Zels opinion on the new style. I guess the bottom line is that trying to predict what's in Rassie's mind is an exercise in futility. We will know when he wants us to know... Keep up the good work!! Big fan of your content!
Absolutely love the way you are getting into the culture in South Africa. We are so diverse and have wasted so much time with not embracing the 100% potential of our country. All we need now is that rugby shows us the way to move forward. Thanks Tim, for shining a light on what rugby is and what it means to you and all of us supporting you.
Aw Tim c'mon stop being so modest, we all know Rassie asked your advice re team selection, otherwise how would you have posted it so quickly. Jokes aside that's what makes your channel so damn good quick, accurate, fair and knowledgeable posts. Friggin brilliant channel.
you have great insights on SA rugby Tim - i've been waiting to see Tony Brown impact and it is showing - he played for the Sharks based out of where you are now - looks great there - that's what Rassie is so good at - always evolving - Pollard will be sharper and Marx is getting back - will be another great test with Ireland never lying down
Was expecting Marx to start. Frans has tough opposition in Dan Porter! Is Kwagga not a bit light for 8? Maybe he's there to compete against Ireland's fetchers, who are very good indeed. Game on. Can't wait. Thanks for your input Tim, your work is appreciated 👍
I was expecting to see manie come back in to suit the more expansive game, but I have a sneaking suspicion we’re going to see a more classic springboks style this weekend
@@nevillepieterse9983The bomb squad were trying to get their mojo last week. They mastered it with the last scrum so let’s get ready for some big scrums.
Great having you here Eggy! I think the Boks will be waaay better this weekend. Reckon they’ll mix it up a lot more too ,probably start a lot tighter ..and cut loose a bit towards the end of the halves. Go boyos!
Kwagga is much better used in the bomb squad. So is Ox as they are both game changers. Would have started Sacha at flyhalf with pollard on the bench. Also would have started Roos
@@whenisasnakeatail4933no they didn’t, in fact Ireland scored 4 tries when they came on and their first move was to concede a penalty at the scrum also the 7/1 in the World Cup failed as Ireland beat the boks this is a stunt nothing else .
Doesn't Matt Williams know that a team these days consists of 23 players and it's up to the coach to make use of their collective strengths as best as he can?
The man pronounced Umhlanga, Hluhluwe & Umfolozi so easily you'd swear he has lived here all his life...and that says a lot about the effort he has put in considering how some South Africans still say *Umshlanga* Definitely a top bloke!
Great again, it’s great how you have represented the country as a special place. Your efforts to learn and pronounce the languages put you above expectations. Enjoy the rest of your stay.
I agree with Rassie’s choice to keep the same 23, but I would have suggested swapping Marx and Bongi’s roles solely (I’m one of Bongi’s biggest fans) because of Malcolm’s strength at the breakdown, which the Irish dominated in the first half, and because Bongi’s a terrific scrummager who would anchor the second-half bomb squad.
Don't miss with a winning formula :) But seriously, given they haven't had much time to play together and they're up against a team who have, it makes sense to avoid changes and giving this team a chance to settle. Especially against a team they generally struggle to beat. I imagine the pack against Portugal will looks a bit more experimental.
Love your channel Tim, thanks for your awesome content and take on all things rugby. Glad you’re enjoying your visit to our country so far. I completely agree with you in that it doesn’t matter who plays but rather how they play. Such exciting times for SA rugby and England for that matter (liked your take on the England NZ game). I would loved to have seen Evan Roos start with Kwagga coming off the bench for that explosive impact. And then would have enjoyed seeing Grant Williams starting with Manie Libbok to get that backline really firing. I understand the thought process though of not changing anything at this stage and going with the settled experienced lineup for such an important game against Ireland. Definitely want to see more game time for Sasha though. They can then experiment against Portugal. Enjoy the game on Saturday!
Thanks for the clear view Tim .. refreshing vs. Rugbymag guys who have taken a narrow view on what we saw .. I think you right , Rassie is never going to be one dimensional in tactics . Total build for the next World Cup
A good few of the Boks have not played for up to 2 months, those from Japan, those who didn't go thru in the premiership. They will get better this coming week.
This selection speaks to a style of play that is being bedded in however, I would be surprised if we play the same type of game in Durban. I for one am looking forward to see the plan the couching staff have up their sleeve. I am sure that the "lesser" games (with respect) against the likes of Portugal will be where I think the Springbok talent will be blooded and groomed to give us the depth for 2027. Our couching staff's skill and dedication is there for all to see. Enjoy your stay in KZN Nick and that you for the video.
‘Feels’ like it. I love that South Africans are being lured into a false sense of security. The same happened when Ireland won the test series against the All Blacks. Lost the first test, had injuries and the all black media wrote us off completely. Then we smashed then.
I also agree, not as Keohane might believe we want this our new style. There are times when our frontal assault does not work out and perhaps Rassie just wants to know we are able to use this other set of skills if perhaps needed (if scrums get hard nerfed or not)
Agree, can you imagine us playing our traditional style and the opposition feeling confident they can keep us out and then suddenly within seconds we switch styles and their defense is not set for it, they then make adjustments and boom, we switch back again. If they can get this right and make sure they have the ability to seamlessly switch back and forth, I feel sorry for any oppositions analysts.
@@brettfleiner4906 Exactly, where and how do you defend BOTH options? Being fluid in our approach or game plan can be a great weapon. I am sure Rassie will have an option selected how to tackle the opposition team on game day, but if after half time he can go and say scrap plan A go with plan B it might just be what we need. I am sure Rassie has a plan and exposing the players as often as possible can only work on our favour.
I really enjoyed the video and glad you have enjoyed South Africa so much! I don't like that an Englishman taught me the real name of my own Springbok captain. Respect and humility!
Dude, you are in my home town! I’m so jealous because I am stuck in Australia without a passport and would give anything to be there! I truly believe that Kings Park will welcome you in a way you will never forget! Enjoy it! It’s the most beautiful and special place
Looks like they are blooding the next gen of utility backs at least, which is so important to the springboks' system. Will need to replace Willie at some point and the more depth we have there the better! Enjoying your takes as always, enjoy the winter weather there, much nicer than the 'summer' we're having in London!
I would have liked to see another no 8, either on the bench or starting. Smith is so great off the bench as well. Such a crazy guy to come off the bench. But let's see how this weekend goes
The EggMaster! There are only 3 in this race. 1. Eggchasers. 2. Wildkard. 3. The Breakdown Show. 4. All the rest far behind. Thanks Tim for the greatest rugby show on earth.
Would love to see all the respected unbiased Rugby Podcasters whose content we view including Alfred here in South Africa for the All Blacks tests..Much love to Tim
That's as cold as it gets in Durban Tim. I'm an old Durban boy all my life but live a little inland at Howick and here it's much colder. Enjoy the hospitality and you will be blown away by the pre and post match going's on at Kings Park.
Awesome Tim, so glad you've got amazing weather. it makes for a great trip. We in CT ... are having all the bad weather, we've taken it from you ,so you can enjoy yourself 😂 hope it stays nice for you
Tim, your content is so good, no one even says anything about your poor camera, probably just your lighting outside 😅. I always enjoy your content, and I am always happy to get a new notification from you :)
