Im the owner of the blown Springfield M1A scout that was mentioned. Springfield also replaced my rifle and everything just as described. They really are a phenominal company, they did not have to do this considering the apparent fault being on ZSR. Great big thanks to Anthony for getting me in contact with Springfield. Thanks for the video update!
ZSR got noticed right away when it showed up in the US roughly 10-15 yrs ago. I bought a quantity to test, (glad I didn't buy a case). I had problems with it immediately. The worst powder fouling I've seen in a factory cartridge, which is saying something as .308 has been my main cartridge since 1973. Erratic velocities, erratic sticky extraction and the rifles felt "different". By that I mean I can feel the vibration difference especially in an AR style, they feel like they're going to blow. Reminds me of a nasty Thoroughbred I had who'd suddenly tense up his back (arch)while galloping, which was a prelude to bucking. Feels like sitting on a powder keg next to a campfire. I had the same sensations from Hornady Superformance in a DPMS G2 .308. I don't like ammo that's on the razor's edge of "safe" just for 150 fps more. Turks seem to like high pressure ammo. Their 8x57 surplus from the 1940s/50s was always hot. I never had a batch that seemed mild. In the past 50 years there's been some very shaky surplus get imported, like machinegun only to horrible quality (Pakistan, India, Mexico). From my experience if you have a questionable cartridge....don't push your luck and keep shooting it. The odds will catch up to you.
Here’s a story about Springfield from years ago. I purchased a new m1 garand from them years ago when they were making them in .308. I had to send it back to them 3 times due to short recoil. Each time they were good to deal with. But after getting it back after the third time and still having the same problem. I was a little upset. I called and explained the situation. I said I want to talk to the head of the company. They connected me in seconds, and I know it was him. I told him my story. Explained at the time I didn’t make a lot of money, and could not afford a gun that didn’t work. I said I either wanted a full refund,or I wanted a GI standard m1a. I then sent the garand back. A short time later I received a delivery from Springfield armory. It was a brand new fully glass bedded national match at no extra charge. I was stunned to say the least. This was back in late 80s. It’s nice to know that they are still a standup company.
Springfield Armory is a class act, in spite of their Illinois controversy from a few years ago. I had a brand new Springfield Armory, TRP 1911 that had FTE issues on the first magazine of ammo fired in it. Springfield took the gun back on their dime, tuned and repaired it and had it back to me within 2 weeks of sending it to them. The gun has been 100% flawless since.
Same thing happened to my M1A Standard Loaded. I sent the gun back to Springfield and they determined it was an overloaded cartridge. The cartridge company denied any responsibility but did agree to take the ammo back. Springfield Armory said it wasn’t their responsibility and I 100% agreed but they sent me a new M1A totally at their expense. I am a Springfield Armory fanboy for life.
many years ago i received a monetary award for exceptional service from the us army rocket and laser research labs. Instead of blowing it on alcohol and strippers, i went to my local dealer and purchased a used M1a Springfield. Later at home, i discovered it was a national match!!! WHAT??? Even later, about a year, there was a Springfield recall on the M1a, so i sent mine back. Within only about 3weeks, here comes a shipment to me from Springfield. At home and opening the box, all i got back from my original gun was the receiver. ALLLLLLL else was BRAND NEW stock, sling, and alllll metal parts, all stamped national match!! A NEW NATION MATCH M 1 A!!!! What luck!! Thank you Springfield!!! A lifetime customer for sure!! And it shoots reeallly well!!!
I was going to get a M1A SOCOM anyway, but now I’m definitely getting M1A SOCOM from Springfield. And much respect to those ammo distributors too. This is the way to do business. And thank you for the updates and information.
Nice to see Springfield took care of you.. If ZSR doesnt stand up and take responsibility then they should be banned from importing ammo. I dont personnally shoot that caliber but glad you could warn everybody
I freakin love Springfield. That is why I buy and carry every day a Springfield firearm and trust my life with them. Glad your buddy is ok and that you got a new rifle. As for ZSR..... They have a lot of explaining to do to a lot of people.
There is an Advertising Exec from Springfield high fiving EVRYONE right now. The rifle they sent you just got ME all warmed up for Springfield again after 40 years or so. I was in the Honor Guard and spun 1903's, good times.
I purchased a pre-ban standard M1A they said was built in the 80s. It had hammer follow when function testing after I field stripped and cleaned it. I didn’t take the trigger group apart, just a basic field strip. I contacted them and explained the issue, told them I wasn’t the original owner and they said no problem, send it to us. They sent an RMA, and fixed it in about 3 weeks time. They replaced the bolt, hammer, as they were recalled, and deburred the trigger guard. They sent it back in a new soft case. Out of the box the hammer follow was fixed when dry cycling it. I haven’t taken it apart again or shot it yet, but the point of the story is that Springfield will take care of you if things need fixing. I paid for nothing.
First, the most important part is your friend was not injured from this failure. Second, thanks to Springfield Armory for doing what they do best is customer support. Third, I never purchase any ammo from a foreign country or any surplus military ammo period. Glad that you have a new replacement rifle and most of all your friend is OK!
It's extremely important to go above and beyond for customers especially in this day and age. Replacing a product that you have no obligation to replace is the best advertising money can buy, and no amount of marketing can fix a bad reputation.
I’ve had Springfield perform repairs on a firearm of mine and have been impressed and more than satisfied at the work performed and their integrity and honor to their product and customer.
Hello fellow M1a owners I worked for a ammunition manufacturing co. for several years and one thing I learned from my experience was always use well known ammo manufacturing co. Preferably MADE IN USA the only exception was NATO stamped brass. The outcome of this story with the ammo co. I fear will not be a good one. I send a big salute to Springfield Arms for the quick response on replacing the damaged M1a .Thanks for sharing your experience with the rest of us.Springfield Arms👍👏
Bought the tanker M1A and shot it for the first time this past weekend. Glad Springfield did the right thing. We MUST support our American gun and ammo producers. Stay safe stay ready.
First, thank god no one was hurt. Second, excellent customer service and response from Springfield, I was on the fence about getting and M1A. After I watched the original video I almost dumped the idea of the M1A and was contemplating buying an FN15 Guardian with with a red dot. I really wanted an M1A for the nostalgia and the iron sights. Great job on the documentation, I’ll look forward to your review of the new rifle. Great job Springfield, hopefully ZSR will step up going forward with other customers. Springfield just earned my business.
Good on SA!!! Love those guys!!! Phenominal that they took care of you eventhough the root cause was not due to their product. Great company - I have multiple SA rifles and will buy more.
Cheers to Springfield Armory! They made a political mistake a few years ago. But they soon realized it and changed their 8:10 policy. They could have easily said 'Bad Ammo Not our fault. So No replacement! But they went the extra mile and did the right thing. As an aside this is why manufacturers will tell you your warranty does not cover your hand loaded ammunition. Working at a Gun store I have seen several guns damaged by customers who made mistakes reloading. One blew up a M1 .30 Carbine by using handgun ball powder. I asked him to bring in his reloading manual and powder. This confirmed it was user error. The failure looked very similar to your rifle. I had another customer who loaded his 22-250 ammo way to hot. He thought he knew that the maximum load in the manual was not hot enough. Luckily the only thing that happened was he could not open the bolt action rifle. My gunsmith confirmed that it was way over pressure! This seems to be more common with pistol calibers that were developed in the black powder era. The .45 Colt Long and .44 WCF (44-40) are easily double charged if you are not vigilant. Trail Boss powder is designed for these cartridges. It takes up more volume to help prevent double charges. If you are starting out reloading. Please get some good how to manuals! Thanks for the uodates
I'm so glad to see that Springfield did right by you and most importantly that no one was injured in this incident. I know Springfield Armory as a company has taken a lot of crap over the past few years but in my experience, they've always stood by their products.
I am so happy Springfield is a good company. I am also happy you guys were not hurt. Nice rifle! I have a Springfield M1A standard. I wish I would have gotten the SOCOM. Stay safe and great update!😊
Wow!!! First of all, I’m glad no one was injured by this incident. I’m a long time 7.62x51 shooter, hand reloader. I have never had a problem with anything close to that level of pressure in a case. It had to be loaded with an extreme amount of the wrong powder. I’m impressed with Springfield’s Customer Service, and their quality. Great video and thank you for sharing. Please keep us posted on the outcome by the ammunition company.
I followed your videos about your incident from the beginning until now . Like others, my conclusion was defective ammo and I was glad to see you follow up in a comprehensive and non biased way that confirmed the conclusion. Complements to the companies that stepped forward and acted in a proper manner. I am glad to see a good ending to a bad situation.
So very glad they are fixing your rifle! I just posted a video showing how Lot 12 and Lot 16 are severely jamming guns. Keep up the great work my friend! You should post the copy of the Email I received from ZSR saying there was NO PROB with the ammo including Lot 15!
That's awesome you got a replacement rifle and no one was hurt. I'm in the same situation with ZSR. I received notice of the recall, but they indicated to go back to the place I bought from. However, it was an online order. I emailed Outdoor Limited and am waiting for a response. Hopefully, I hear some good news!
Glad everyone is ok. Coming from a Socom owner I’m glad that it’s my first rifle I bought. I then continued to buy 2 1911s from Springfield. the MC and the EMP. I will continue to do business with them. Great company!!!
Congratulations dude. I have a loaded M1A and have had no issues, so far! Good to know Springfield did the right thing even though they didn’t have to!😊
I am currently employed at a local gun shop in San Antonio, Texas . As of 2015 my yearly average of selling Springfields is around 5 to 6 hundred a year. They don't come back to our store for common issues or repairs like other brands. And for good reason. Its a very good brand. I own 6 Springfields and the only thing I have had done is put night sights on some of them. On the very few that I have seen for repairs, Springfield Armory has stood by their word.
Thanks for the follow up in letting everyone know that someone that didn't have to, stepped in and replaced firearm. Springfield know that this small issue to them will get them a lot of positive points in the future. If a lot of companies would do this it would save and make future customers. I for one have been on the fence on a new purchase and this really helps me look at Springfield more. Thanks again.😮😊😂
I’m really pleased to hear Springfield treated you so well. I hear a lot of bad talk about Springfield Armory and I have sold many of their firearms when I worked at the Fort Worth Cabela’s store. I’ve wanted an M1A for a long time. I own one of their AR15’s and am really happy with it.
Thanks for all the info and updates. Much appreciated….. i’m a little leery myself now because I purchased 1000 rounds of 9 mm ZSR from velocity and hope that it is safe to use… thanks again
Springfield Armory replaced my M 1A some 25 years ago when it stopped functioning properly 👍 Even though ammunition is pricey better get the good stuff. I bought a lifetime supply of sealed NATO crated ammo in the ‘90 and glad I did. When I’m gone my son-in-law will get it what’s left.
Glad it worked out..zsr should reimburse Springfield…hopefully your video goes viral to all gun owners…Hickok45 has 7 million 8:10 viewers…maybe he can help spread the word…I’m glad all the guys walked away from exploding rifles.
So the company NOT at fault.. Springfield..stood tall and went above and beyond by replacing a rifle they didn't have to, and the company AT fault is incommunicado. Bravo to Springfield! Now lawyer up and put the screws to the ammo company. Nothing on earth pisses me off worse than being ignored by somebody that's harmed me. Glad you got a new rifle 😀.
I know what brand of ammuniton I will *_never_* buy now. Kuds to Springfield for going anove and beyond to investigate, and replace the gun at no cost, when it wasn't even their guns' fault!
i have 3 springfield guns...anytime i call for parts to up date...or magazines...!..there custoner service is spot on...!..very happy with all three...they make a great product...& in your case...stand behind it 110%...!..good 2 know...not surprised...glad it all went well 4 u..!..
I almost bought a 500 round case of that stuff. Thank God I didn't because I'd be heartbroken if that happened to my m1a. I think Springfield understands the love the owners truly have for their rifles. Sadly rare in today's world
Great job, Springfield! It's encouraging to see them take significant action, despite it seemingly not being their responsibility. The issue of low-quality ammunition causing firearm malfunctions seems to be growing more common. Given the strict regulations in this industry and the challenges in obtaining insurance, I'm curious if there's a deliberate oversight by regulatory bodies, possibly hoping that incidents involving this ammunition will lead to harm among the general shooting community and cast them in a bad light."
I haven't had to deal with Springfield customer support yet, however, I can speak to Ruger being a company that will stand by their products, and their customers. Now knowing that Springfield is much the same way, makes me want to go out and get an M1A like I've wanted for over a decade now. I'm stoked to see you had a happy outcome, and that all these other distributors are stepping up when ZSR is still hiding under the sheets. Just goes to show that the gun community is still strong, and we look out for one another.
I just purchased a Springfield M1A last week. I was shocked at how expensive the ammo is, $1 a round basically and that is for the cheap stuff. I am was thinking about getting into reloading as a hobby due to the expense of the ammo. After watching this video, I am seriously reconsidering not going down that path.
Springfield should NEVER needed to send you a new rifle. I hope they can collect the cost from ZSR. Companies that do wrong accidental or on purpose should be held accountable, not companies that were not at fault. All these American companies shouldn't have to bear the cost of Turkish ammo.
First thank goodness your friend was not hurt. Springfield Armory is obviously a standup company, I have owned a TRP, Professional, and a M1A. Never a problem with any fd them. I will be buying more from them. ZSR is the exact opposite. I will avoid them like the plague.
Just my thoughts on Springfield. I bought the m1a loaded precision and had issues out of the box. The receiver wasn’t milled correctly and the bolt wouldn’t hold open without an empty magazine. I was also having issues with the bolt locking closed with a live round in the chamber that couldn’t be fired. Springfield took the rifle back through my FFL and pushed it to the front of the line and fixed everything. I had it back in less than 2 weeks and it runs flawlessly. Say what you will about some things they’ve done in the past but their customer service is on point.
This is awesome! It’s so good to know since I’m considering an M1A and or another Springfield rifle. It’s also interesting to hear from an engineering/safety viewpoint that Springfield said the explosion discharged out the bottom “as it was designed” to do. So it sounds like they anticipated such an event and planned for it so your friend only got a bad scare instead of a face full of metal. I feel a lot safer about choosing a Springfield. I mean, gee, they’ve only been making guns for a couple hundred years or so.
